I've been eyeing a couple bottles (both in wooden boxes, one also in an outer cardboard container) and can't figure out what year they were released.  How does one tell?  I didn't see a date on the packaging or the label.  Both had a number, but not listed as a batch number, somewhere in the 7,000's.  How do I know when this was made?

A good question to which I do not have a good answer. It has been around since about 2011 (not sure if it came to the US at the same time as it was originally released across the pond) and they have been made regularly since that time. I still have a bottle from close to the original release (maybe even 2011) but haven't looked very closely at a more recent bottle. It has a number on the front label and what is presumably a bottling code on the back label but I don't know how to interpret it. The code is L2166311143 09:44. I presume the last part is a time stamp.

The bottle label and box have changed some over time as seen here when they created a "Midleton Very Rare collection" a couple of years ago that included the vintage Very Rare, the Dair Ghaelich and the Crockett. One that looks like the bottle below is probably 2016 or earlier.

You could try asking Midleton/Pernod to see if they will peel back the curtain! Not sure I would hold my breath awaiting an answer but you never know!
