Oh, am I enjoying this one.  And for the price in mid $30s it’s even better. Great balance, and the port just gives a wonderful pop of juiciness.  I am a huge fan of the  Glenmorangie Port Wood finish of several years ago, and this one is right up there with it.  Perhaps, a bit more drying on the finish, but that is not to be taken as a deficiency.  I will definitely be picking up more of this.

2018 MaCallan Classic Cut, not quite the same as the 2017 (which is incredible), but still a SOLID pour.  Cheers

I was in the mood for peat tonight, so I started with a nice pour of Ardbeg 10yr, and I’m now working on a healthy pour of Laphroaig Cairdeas 2016-Madeira Cask finish. They are both great pours if you like peated scotch.

Loving some 28yr Glenturret tonight.  Getting a ton of anise, which I didn't remember (could be lingering impact from pizza rolls), but loving it!

This entire Cuatro Series (from 2015) showed up late to the party, but all priced under $40.00. The Fino finish was almost 4 years, so it certainly makes its presence known.

That's the only one of the 4 I didn't pick up, by the time I decided to grab one it was gone from the shelves around here and I never made much of an effort to find one. The other three certainly have noticeable finishes but far from dominating to me. The PX was to my taste buds really kind of atypical in a way where I really enjoyed it.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company picks some fine whiskies and this one is a very good example. Lots of fruit kicked up a notch or three with some black pepper spice.  (I wonder how smokinjoe pronouces Bruichladdich?) :D

I picked the Fino thinking it would be the most unusual of the series-- but I'll grab the PX next time I'm in. Thanks.

One of my favorite out of town stores is supposed to be getting one of those picks in sometime this summer. I’m actually looking forward to it.

Prepped these two for my flight this morning— the 27 Palo Cortado is a killer. Should have made doubles.

Fat Dram Laphroaig 16 to kick off dinner— my client is running late. One of the best treats of Chicago is the on-premise Scotch line-ups, usually with multiple indy options.

Crap day, wanted something different. Pulled out a soapy, sulfuric batch of A'Bunadh from the back of the cabinet, and actually into it.

Followed up with a G&M Scapa 10– I had to go to the bar to help the poor guy find it. First time someone had ordered it.

What did you think of the Scapa 10?  I still come across bottles now and then, but it seems overpriced for what it likely is. That said, there’s not exactly a lot of age stated Scapa out there. Thanks.

The G&M 10 is extremely dry and malty with a delicate island/maritime backbone— cost is less of an issue than finding it given the Stateside situation with G&M.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I suspect I'll pick up a bottle of the G&M at some point out of curiosity.  I also see the Scapa Skiren from time to time.

What's up with G&M in the US? I know Chopin Imports took over US distribution last year. Has that affected availability?

All of my regulars claim that it’s extremely messed up and no longer coming in. I haven’t seen any fresh releases, but then again I’m looking for the older stuff.

Jeffrey I think I picked up a bottle for under $50, if I can remember where or come across it again I'll try to remember to let you know.

I just love these delicate near-naked  Dalmores— especially when the cork survives.

The nose on this one is mix of Zapp’s Mesquite Bar-B-Q potato chips, a Trojan lubricated and Deep Woods Off...

A Trojan lubricated??? Dave, you're freaking me out buddy. I haven't had this years bottle, and even though I'm a big Laphroaig fan I'm now ruined for trying it (much less buying one). I'll never be able to get past that description
