smokinjoe
Was in Greenville, SC last week on business and stayed downtown. Mrssmokinjoe came with me, as she had never been. Ate at Soby’s and had a great meal there, as usual. BTW, for those who have not been there, downtown Greenville along Main St. is a beautiful, walkable area with lots of good restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. I enjoyed a couple of the bartenders concoctions called the “Midnight Train to Georgia”. Rye, Aperol, Ramazzotti Amaro, Cambier Peche, and Lemon. Looked to duplicate this afternoon, and got pretty close (subbed DeKuyper Peche) on the ingredients, and closer on the proportion of ingredients and taste thanks to help from SB’s resident mixologist extraordinaire, TANSTAAFL2. Very refreshing whiskey cocktail, that is perfect for warm Summer afternoons and evenings.

smokinjoe
35 minutes ago, flahute said: That looks good! What are the proportions. To start, I remember the cocktail at the restaurant as being not as whiskey forward as I would have typically liked. Slightly sweetish, and the lemon is noticeable, but does not take it into whiskey sour territory. So, with Bruce’s guidance, went with: 1.5 Oz KC Rye .75 Oz Aperol .75 Oz Ramazzotti .75 Oz fresh lemon juice .25 Oz DK Peche It ended up really close. The KC Rye SB gave it the more oomph that I wanted, versus the Rittenhouse Rye that Soby’s uses. Next one, I might drop the lemon and Aperol just a touch. Like, less than .25 oz. The peach component was not as pronounced as I remember, but I think that may be the Peche brand, rather than proportion. I’ll search for Combier this week. All that said, I may be overthinking this, as it was damn close and any differences may be subjective.
Kjbarth
4RYL Old Fashioned while grilling burgers. Then a 2nd sitting in the hot tub after dinner. My back really hurts the day after I cut the lawn even though half the time I’m sitting on a tractor.
scratchline
Bensonhurst. 2 oz rye, 1oz dry vermouth, 2 t carciofo, 1 t Luxardo, stir on ice, strain onto fresh ice, cherry garnish. The heat is destroying this drink but it's a nice summer alternative to a Manhattan. It's been a long time since I had dry vermouth with bourbon/rye but it really works here. Since I'm looking for applications for the carciofo, I may move onto a Jeremy Renner. I know, I know...
scratchline
The Jeremy Renner. Cynar was pushing hard in 2011. With the cask strength whiskies this is a fantastic drink. I just hope I can remember that tomorrow.

scratchline
Saratoga cocktail: 1 oz rye 1 oz brandy 1 oz sweet vermouth bitters Stir on ice. Strain onto big ice. This is really good. And I can't imagine it being as good without the peach brandy. You definitely want an assertive spicy rye here. Good stiff drink for an awful sad day. dad-proof
Had a variation of a "Bee's Knees" cocktail at a local Oaxacan restaurant. The "La Abeja" was made with lemon juice, Gracias a Dios Gin which is really a triple distilled Oaxacan mezcal with botanicals added on the final distillation, and Drambuie, served up with a garnish of grilled blood orange. I have had many of the different Tiptop cocktails available since it is readily available locally but I haven't tried one yet on board. But I rarely drink anything when flying.
