First cocktail for me in this New Year, so leading off this new thread with a variation on the 19th Century cocktail.  What do you do when you buy your first bottle of Cocchi Americano on a whim, and you don’t know what to do with it?  You call TANSTAAFL2 for a cocktail recipe, obviously!  😁

1.5 oz Bourbon

.75 oz Creme de Cacao

.75 oz Cocchi Americano

.75 oz Lemon Juice

Shaken over ice.  Strain. Serve up in coupe.

Made a couple martini-ish drinks for Mrs big blue, sour apple martini followed by a lemon drop for yesterday’s football games.

I feel like the 22 thread needs a mezcal Negroni. Had a couple of these last night while watching some early Olympics.  Pulled this orange off a tree in the front yard. The amount of oil that came out of the peel was impressive.

Whether the thread does or not, I think I need a Mezcal Negroni.  I've never had one and it sounds delicious.

Wow, That Old Fashioned looks great!  I had a couple of those on Saturday night, but, I prefer Rye for those and my Manhattans.  Rittenhouse Rye is my go to for mixing.  I have never used Bourbon, but would think a wheater might be too sweet.  Now have to buy my Demerara sugar on line since it has been increasingly difficult to find at the grocery store.  Cane Syrup works great too!

Doing some big Old Fashioned’s for the Super Bowl. 2tsp simple syrup, 4-5 squirts each of angostura bitters and orange bitters, 2 Luxardo maraschino cherries, 6oz WT101, big sphere cube.  One for the first qtr, just made #2 for beginning of 2nd qtr.

New Old Fashioned like above for beginning of Q3 except with a large cube shaped cube.

After a 3rd as above at the start of the 3rd qtr, that lasted until the end of the game. Now onto a new formula, replacing the WT101 with a FRYL Old fashioned with otherwise the same recipe. This will work while watching the Olympics.

Are you ever that guy that cringes when an old fashioned is made for you? The cheap bottle of simple syrup. The heavy hand on the bitters. Packed w ice. This is that drink. Bulleit  rye. But, It’s damn good. And, that’s  the Pacific.

Negroni while out for a belated Valentine’s Day dinner with Mrssmokinjoe and Littlesmokinjoe at one of our favorite Italian places, Osteria Mattone.  They have the yurt set up outside, and it really makes for a nice atmosphere.

The Improved Whiskey Cocktail looks very similar to a Sazerac Cocktail.

Sweeter than I would make on my own. I should probably just throw some extra BT in there.

That tends to be my problem with all pre mixed cocktails.  It's like they throw in a couple of packets of sugar right before bottling.

Not sure it would be classed as a cocktail at all but, Belgian hot chocolate spiked with Buffalo Trace. 🤤

Under the classic definition, it would not be, but they seem to have expanded the definition to refer to almost any drink that includes alcohol. I prefer the classic definition, because words are supposed to have meaning.

But, anyway, that sounds like a nice drink.

If you can get Buffalo Trace Cream Liqueur there, give it a try. Not sure how good it is in Belgian hot chocolate, but I think it’s pretty good in a cup of coffee. ☕️  It’s also pretty good in a glass with some ice. 😋

I’m not having a cocktail, but I thought I’d post something interesting. A local bar/bistro is showing some solidarity for the people of Ukraine. They are permanently changing the name of the cocktail “Moscow Mule”, to “Kyiv Mule “. They will also be using only Ukrainian vodka. One dollar from each Kyiv Mule sold will go to UNICEF Ukraine to benefit the children in Ukraine affected by the war there.

It is 80F here, this afternoon. I'm having a very simple, but very good Manhattan cocktail. 1 1/2 oz Old Forester 100, 3/4 oz Noilly Prat sweet vermouth, about 4 dashes Angostura, and three small ice cubes.
