The U.S. Treasury Department, which was in charge of enforcing Prohibition, issued special numbered prescription pads to physicians, printed on safety paper like currency. A lot of that was then transferred to the ailing husband at home.So we are left to wonder, did Lillian recover, or was she helping a more sick relative?
