Related to the question in another thread as to what bottles you currently have open, I pose the following question.

What bottles do you currently have in your bunker that are un-opened?

I just checked and here's what I have in my small collection:

Well, if you put all of Tim's stuff on a dart board, I would have everything but the bullseye and the triples.

Jeremy, Timothy, Mark -- remember, this is post-sale. A few months ago, the list would have been at least twice that long. Still, I know of a number of members here who can put it to shame.

The fact that it's post sale makes it even more impressive:bowdown:

As I started off collecting bottles for 'fun' - (yeah it's a great hobby!), I don't know if I would call it a bunker or more of a collection. Most are on display. Some of the bottles were purchased for drinking. Every day I spend on here reading about some of the bottles I have makes me want to drink them, and I think one day more than a few of them will be in the 'open bottles' thread. So here they are:

  • Evan Williams Black Label 8YO
  • EW SB 94 & 95
  • Elijah Craig 12 x3
  • Elijah Craig 18
  • Kentucky gold 1L
  • Bulleit 80 Proof
  • Bulleit 90 Proof
  • Cougar XS (86 Proof)
  • Booker's 10th Anniversary
  • Booker's x2
  • Baker's x2 (B-85-001 & B-90-001) Old label and new label
  • Basil Hayden's
  • Knob Creek
  • Jim Beam Gold Label 100 proof
  • Jim Beams Choice
  • Jim Beam Black label
  • Blantons - Gold, Silver, Special Reserve and Original
  • Pappy 20
  • 2006 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (All 5 bottles)
  • Maker's Mark - Red Wax, Christmas green over red, Affirmed, VIP (Signed by Bill), 911 1L (Signed by Bill), Gold Wax 101:bowdown: (Thanks Troy)
  • WT Honey Liqueur
  • WT 8YO 101 (Signed by Jimmy)
  • WT 12YO 101 (Signed by Jimmy)
  • RR 90 x3
  • RR 101 x3
  • WT Tradition
  • WT Sherry Signature

  • WT KY Legend 101
  • WT KY Legend Single Barrel Barrel Proof (Japan)
  • WT Rare Breed (WT-01-97) (Signed by Jimmy)
  • WT Tribute (Japan & US)
  • WT Freedom (Signed by Jimmy)
  • WT 17yo (Japan)

  • Crown Royal XR (I opened it but haven't tried it yet)
  • Crown Royal 1L

  • George Dickel Ivory

  • Jack 1904 Centennial 1.75L US
  • Jack Daniel's Gold Medal Collection (1904, 1905, 1913, 1914, 1915, 1954, 1981)
  • JD Monogram
  • JD Silver Select
  • JD 1895 Replica
  • JD Tennessee Bicentennial
  • JD Maxwell House
  • JD Barrel House 1
  • JD 150th Birthday
  • JD Scenes 1,2 & 3 (750mL Signed by Jimmy) scene 7 1L
  • And a very cool "Family Of Fine Whiskeys" cabinet which is numbered 4/150, with COA signed by Jimmy - it contains a Single Barrel, Gentleman Jack and an old no 7)

The Jack bottles are just collectables, different proofs etc, but after being on this forum I want to drink most of those turkey bottles, thanks guys and girls! If any of you come to Australia, you are more than welcome to visit!

There's also 20 that I'm ordering from Binnys, so the list will grow, also thanks to the kind folks on here:grin:

Tim, I see this WTKS you have opened since 1994, when is the last time you tried it? Is it still good?

I have heard that you should not let them go for more than 12 to 18 months.

What is your experience on this?

this is an edit,....I see now that it says "bottled in 1994"

my mistake, but what is the longest you have had something opened and was still good?

Probably a 1978 Bourbon deLuxe quart I currently have, of which about 40% remains, is the longest-open bottle I've ever had -- about 18 months now. I don't notice any change even now, I just don't care for it all that much (I've been trying to remember to mix it with cola, et al, lately to get it gone).

So, Oscar, I've never known one to go 'bad' -- though I've known quite a few (usually higher-proof) that seem to improve after you take an inch or two off the top.

My bottle of Old Setter was given to me six years ago by my father-in-law. It was already opened, with a broken tax stamp across the cap and no barcode on the label. He told me he had received it as a givt long ago.

I guess that means it was around thirty years old when I finally polished it off last month. It tasted different from other bourbons - its finish was more tangy than hot - but it was by no means unpleasant.

I have noticed that it seems you can keep mostly full bottles for quite a while without much- if any- change (though a long ago bottled bourbon, can indeed improve with a breath of fresh air). I'm currently drinking on a bottle of Old Charter 7yo BIB that was bought at the place Tim works part-time about 370 days ago (I looked up the post). It was opened basically upon arrival in Louisiana. The bottle was nursed for quite a while, knowing that it is a hard to come by bottling and all, and only got down to half way 2-3 months ago. The bottle is now down to its last inch (I consider a half empty bottle as one that needs to get gone) and is just now starting to display some damage to its flavor-it seems a bit lighter in body and the caramel and spice are starting to wane.

Modest compared to others here:

Several botles of each of the 2006 BTAC --- these will be consumed over the next year so I'm not so sure they qualify.

An extra bottle of Hirsch 16

Several bottles of S-W ORVW.

That's about it... I'm much more a drinker that a hoarder.

Don't assume a large number of unopened bottles signifies any of us is 'just a collector'. I don't own a bottle I don't intend to open. But when I see a bottle that I would like to drink, but may never see again, I'm disinclined to hope I'll run across another one when I'm finally ready to open it.

Point well taken... my choice of "hoarder" was perhaps ill-conceived. I didn't mean in any sense to be pejorative. What I was really trying to convey is that I see bourbon as something to be enjoyed and shared "today"... because who knows what tomorrow will bring.

I'll offer at least a partial answer as I'm too lazy to type out all the names. Also, a lot of these were acquired from trades/gifts with the fine members of this forum. I keep my inventory list on an excell spreadsheet. Total bottle count for bourbons and ryes is approx 340. Here are some of my faves to either look at and/or drink.

Weller, Old Fitz, Dickle, Old Charter, IW Harper from the Bourbon Heritage Collection

Staggs from 2002 to date incl 2005 Spring Lot A and Lot B

Pappy 20 and 23's from original bottling AKA "green glass" Pappys

A H Hirsch 16 in Gold and Blue Wax

A H Hirsch 20yo

Evan Williams 12yo and 15yo for Japan market

Waterfill Frazier distilled in Juarez

Van Winkle Family Reserve 17yo

Weller 12 SB's from SW (5 different barrels)

Van Winkle 12yo Lot B -- Van Blankle

WT Tribute and Stampede

Over 90 different bottlings in total including 10 pre pro and prohibition bottles. Current house pours are the Weller 12 SB's, Van Blankle and ORVW 10/107 L'Burg. Current fave special occasion pours are Tribute and Hirsch 16yo.
