HighTower
As I started off collecting bottles for 'fun' - (yeah it's a great hobby!), I don't know if I would call it a bunker or more of a collection. Most are on display. Some of the bottles were purchased for drinking. Every day I spend on here reading about some of the bottles I have makes me want to drink them, and I think one day more than a few of them will be in the 'open bottles' thread. So here they are:Evan Williams Black Label 8YOEW SB 94 & 95Elijah Craig 12 x3Elijah Craig 18Kentucky gold 1LBulleit 80 ProofBulleit 90 ProofCougar XS (86 Proof)Booker's 10th AnniversaryBooker's x2Baker's x2 (B-85-001 & B-90-001) Old label and new labelBasil Hayden'sKnob CreekJim Beam Gold Label 100 proofJim Beams ChoiceJim Beam Black labelBlantons - Gold, Silver, Special Reserve and OriginalPappy 202006 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (All 5 bottles)Maker's Mark - Red Wax, Christmas green over red, Affirmed, VIP (Signed by Bill), 911 1L (Signed by Bill), Gold Wax 101:bowdown: (Thanks Troy)WT Honey LiqueurWT 8YO 101 (Signed by Jimmy)WT 12YO 101 (Signed by Jimmy)RR 90 x3RR 101 x3WT TraditionWT Sherry SignatureWT KY Spirit 2005WT KY Legend 101WT KY Legend Single Barrel Barrel Proof (Japan)WT Rare Breed (WT-01-97) (Signed by Jimmy)WT Tribute (Japan & US)WT Freedom (Signed by Jimmy)WT 17yo (Japan)Crown Royal XR (I opened it but haven't tried it yet)Crown Royal 1LGeorge Dickel IvoryJack 1904 Centennial 1.75L USJack Daniel's Gold Medal Collection (1904, 1905, 1913, 1914, 1915, 1954, 1981)JD MonogramJD Silver SelectJD 1895 ReplicaJD Tennessee BicentennialJD Maxwell HouseJD Barrel House 1JD 150th BirthdayJD Scenes 1,2 & 3 (750mL Signed by Jimmy) scene 7 1LAnd a very cool "Family Of Fine Whiskeys" cabinet which is numbered 4/150, with COA signed by Jimmy - it contains a Single Barrel, Gentleman Jack and an old no 7)The Jack bottles are just collectables, different proofs etc, but after being on this forum I want to drink most of those turkey bottles, thanks guys and girls! OscarV
Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit (bottled 1994, also open)Tim, I see this WTKS you have opened since 1994, when is the last time you tried it? Is it still good?I have heard that you should not let them go for more than 12 to 18 months. What is your experience on this?this is an edit,....I see now that it says "bottled in 1994" my mistake, but what is the longest you have had something opened and was still good? TNbourbon
...what is the longest you have had something opened and was still good?Probably a 1978 Bourbon deLuxe quart I currently have, of which about 40% remains, is the longest-open bottle I've ever had -- about 18 months now. I don't notice any change even now, I just don't care for it all that much (I've been trying to remember to mix it with cola, et al, lately to get it gone). So, Oscar, I've never known one to go 'bad' -- though I've known quite a few (usually higher-proof) that seem to improve after you take an inch or two off the top. Solomon2
what is the longest you have had something opened and was still good?My bottle of Old Setter was given to me six years ago by my father-in-law. It was already opened, with a broken tax stamp across the cap and no barcode on the label. He told me he had received it as a givt long ago. I guess that means it was around thirty years old when I finally polished it off last month. It tasted different from other bourbons - its finish was more tangy than hot - but it was by no means unpleasant.

I'm currently drinking on a bottle of Old Charter 7yo BIB that was bought at the place Tim works part-time about 370 days ago (I looked up the post). It was opened basically upon arrival in Louisiana. The bottle was nursed for quite a while, knowing that it is a hard to come by bottling and all, and only got down to half way 2-3 months ago. The bottle is now down to its last inch (I consider a half empty bottle as one that needs to get gone) and is just now starting to display some damage to its flavor-it seems a bit lighter in body and the caramel and spice are starting to wane. jburlowski
Modest compared to others here: Several botles of each of the 2006 BTAC --- these will be consumed over the next year so I'm not so sure they qualify. An extra bottle of Hirsch 16Several bottles of S-W ORVW.That's about it... I'm much more a drinker that a hoarder.
TNbourbon
...these will be consumed over the next year so I'm not so sure they qualify...I'm much more a drinker that a hoarder.Don't assume a large number of unopened bottles signifies any of us is 'just a collector'. I don't own a bottle I don't intend to open. But when I see a bottle that I would like to drink, but may never see again, I'm disinclined to hope I'll run across another one when I'm finally ready to open it. I didn't mean in any sense to be pejorative. What I was really trying to convey is that I see bourbon as something to be enjoyed and shared "today"... because who knows what tomorrow will bring.
