What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

The other fresh open that burned more than I expected (that is, "at all") was the OF High Angel's share. I remember trying it (same version) at a friend's place and really liking it. -
What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

Opened up some bottles from the trip to Kentucky. I have not had any alcohol for 3 weeks. Is normal after such a spell that "everything tastes hot"? Both bottles did. I know they were neck pours...but not really high proof. I'll let them sit for a few months as is often my habit. This "7" year SP went 11 years & 8 months. Definitely has that Beam flavor. PS: Thanks Gen Tee! -
They put down more of the four grain mash bill as the stuff that became the EH Taylor Four Grain releases was aging, so that might be another thing they could do to differentiate it.

I like OF Rye. I have not had it in some time as it is a lil difficult for me to find. Reading this B(rye)OTM topic has me wanting to procure a btl sooner than later.
-
both CYPB and Russell's Reserve 15 are on my list. I passed locally on CYPB 2 weeks ago. $500 was just too much

that looks really neat

I think Texas bourbon is rather special. I prefer what Garrison Brothers does over Still Austin. That said, Still Austin is quite good too. My largest issue with Garrison Brothers is the price point is high to me. Love what New Riff is doing too. Have not tried Hard Truth but heard great things.

BOTM 05/2025 Old Forester Rye
rzelinka replied to Jazz June's topic in Straight Bourbon Of The Month
I find it interesting too. I am amazed at the things people pick up in tasing bourbons. Bubble gum, chocolate, leather, tobacco. I just taste bourbon most of the time -
With regular ER being at 10 years I think your notion of something in between that and 17 makes a lot of sense.

I haven't responded to this yet because I keep forgetting to reach for my open bottle to have it fresh on my memory but I do find it interesting to see multiple people comment on getting a mint flavor. The primary reason why I don't drink more rye than the most of you is that I get the mint flavor most of the time and don't like it very much. My palate needs to be in a very particular spot so I don't get the mint too strongly. My memory of the OF rye is that I don't get the mint on it so now I'm really intrigued for the re-taste.

I have not. That's not a bad idea. Old Forester has some great and for the most part affordable options -
What rye are you drinking or purchased 2025
rzelinka replied to Mattk's topic in American Rye Whiskey
nothing better than playoff hockey! I remember when my home town had a hockey team. Unfortunately, they left several years ago. I sure do miss them -

Excellent. I was at the F1 event over the weekend and tried this for the first time. Not a bad bourbon. I'm not a fan of rye's unless I mix up an old fashioned, but this one is worth $60 for the bottle. -
Have you tried the standard 100 proof version? (the subject of this thread) It's on shelves everywhere and always less than 30 bucks.
-
I have been drinking some higher end bourbons from my collection as of late but had a taste for a good old fashioned. My wife bought me a bartesian cocktail machine for Christmas and I mixed up an old fashioned with Woodford Reserve Rye, and the imported italian cherries, and orange peel. It was a very nice change of pace.

What bourbon did you purchase this spring season of 2025?
rzelinka replied to MSB's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
I find many have a dislike for Dickel. Some referring to it as the Dickel funk. I have the 15 year and found it to be enjoyable. -

kcgumbohead replied to MSB's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
I've seen that posted among several SBrs. I'm a Dickel fan but never went for the 15yr. The initial BiB to me was a bit too oakey so I try to stay under that threshold. The latest 12yr BiB I think is fantastic, such an underrated pour that sits on shelves while the taters clamor to overpay for whatever FB/Insta tells them they need. -

I had nearly forgotten that I still had it; was in the back of the bunker for a long time. It was really quite flavorful, more than I had recalled. When it was released, it was the focus of a somewhat hokey marketing effort, thus the "aged in Stitzel-Weller Barrels" label. -
Tennessee in December Jack Daniel's & Uncle Nearest Distillery tours question
Skinsfan1311 posted a topic in Distillery Trips
We'll be in Nashville for a few days after Christmas. We're definitely doing JD, but the tour company offers a combination tour that includes JD & Uncle Nearest. To anyone whose been, is the Uncle Nearest worth visiting? Please bear in mind that we've toured a shit-ton of distilleries in Kentucky. JD has been on the bucket list for years. Not sure about Uncle Nearest. I've only ever tried one of their whiskeys, and wasn't overly impressed. Thanks!- 1 reply

I've read before that the 18 yr Marriage is a blend from 3 different Mashbills. I would assume that means MB 1, MB 2, and the Wheated Mashbill from the Weller/Pappy line, but I figure they have a plethora of experimental mashbills so maybe it's some other combination of three. I hadn't considered that it might be a rotational or varying release...that could be an interesting twist. It could be as you suggested, ~10 yr to 12 yr old and BiB, so kind of like BT's version of Old Forester 1924.

Who, that’s interesting. So it seems you’d be content with saving the money and going with a few bottles of the select. I came to the same conclusion with Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked. I could buy no less than 2 store pick of the double oaked and still have money left over -

I am not crazy about rye whiskey. I usually mix it in an old fashioned. Seems I lost an opportunity. Will look again
