  2. Finished off a Baker's 13 with Mrs. Clueby earlier so staying in the family. I prefer the Baker's a bit but the KC18 is a darn good pour. I'm trying to clear some low fill bottles out.

    Empty Bottle Support Group 2025

I thoroughly enjoyed every pour of this. It's the one Beam product I consider "elegant".
  4. I would have to look at my bottle but I'm pretty sure my open bottle of Pikesville is pre-shortage. I'm not displeased with Pikesville, I just think it is no longer the undisputed king of the midrange ryes that it used to be (to me anyway). I have those same 3 bottles in your pic. Obviously my Ritt store pick is from a different pick.
  5. Pikesville basically disappeared for a bit around here. I heard it was due to the barrels being used up in the ec rye release. Then they returned, if you got one of the first few batches after that they were not good. I believe I ranted about it in a post or two here on sb. However I find that the newer bottles are pretty much back on track and are just as good as the pre disappearance stock. On the plus side there was the emergence of the rittenhouse sib program, a phc 10ybp, and the gtg rye since then to make up to the Pikesville guys.
  6. Little Beast with another expertly crafted tart ale. Its excellent.

  8. I don't know if it's just me, but I haven't been as impressed with my current open bottle of Pikesville as I remember being with past bottles. It's probably just me, or rather my exposure to more quality ryes compared to the past. Pikesville is pushing $50 in my neck of the woods and there is a lot more competition in the rye category than there was when I first started getting into rye. I think I'd rather have a Sagamore store pick at 110 proof for about that same price (if I catch it on sale, and it usually is somewhere) or just spend a little bit more for a Russell's Reserve SiB rye, which is a full step above the Pikesville IMO.

Ziggy Zaggy, Ziggy Zaggy, Oi, Oi, Oi!!!
  11. In honor of you, one of the biggest rye fans on here, fRyeday is hereby extended to include Saturdays as well so you can continue to join in the fun
  12. Picked up the Rare Breed today. WTRB is always my Thanksgiving bottle, and I’ll only pick it up once (maybe twice) the following 11 months. Primarily, just to keep it special for the day. Opened it up, and it’s gorgeous classic Turkey bouquet notes exploded out of the bottle, filling the dining room. Wow! This whiskey is special for more than just the November occasion.
  13. I've taken to working 6 day weeks, so I don't really get to fryeday very often lately. Today after work I purchased and opened yet another wt101r. It's just as good as ever.
  14. I find the regular rittenhouse to actually have the most spice of the 3 core hh ryes, the sibs vary quite wildly. IMO rittenhouse and pikesville are blended to hit different flavor profiles. I love them both. The mildest rye hh puts out is the EC if you get the chance, and they have increased the sweetness with a toasted line extension, which is also pretty good.

What’s open on your bar? 2024-???

Impressive list. But you have 6 Old Forester BP SiB open at the same time? How do you find the variation barrel to barrel?

What rye are you drinking or purchased 2025

I have had Pikesville. It was years ago but, if I recall, it was too over the top rye spiced for me. Maybe I should try it again? I'll have to revisit, but the Rittenhouse I have from the local whiskey society is rich but not as spice dominant. That is what I prefer. I like some of the pepper and spice but not a ton and I prefer not to have the medicinal/herbal notes present. I like more mellow ryes and finished ryes. I like the balance of a nice finished rye. I have a Dark Arts Rye from the local whiskey society that is finished in white and red port casks. Really juicy and balanced and still has nice rye notes. That is my jam.
  18. I picked up a KC 9 today myself. It was at a good price for me at just under 31$ OTD.

What’s open on your bar? 2024-???

This is my current open bourbon/rye bottles on my shelf. Have 6 Scotch bottles open too, but not pictured.
  20. Have you ever tried Pikesville. It's basically the age stated higher proof version of Rittenhouse. I like them both.
  21. That sounds wonderful. It's on my list to search for when I visit other states. I see KY and TN get it, IN - no. Maybe compares to some of the great MGP stuff Smooth Ambler used to have.

Rittenhouse is really solid. I have a bottle from my local whiskey society. Cannot beat it for the price.

    Happy World Whiskey Day 2025

Speaking of 'late'... I was born a couple days too late, it seems. Shoulda had better planning, I guess. I'll mark another year of breathing the air on planet Earth Monday. (If anybody cares, I'll turn 29 . . . again. HA!)

    Cocktail Hour - 2025

Thank you! To celebrate, I'm having a straight rye whiskey, neat!
