I guess that BP Blantons would have been a good choice too? Yeah, Anwalt has the right idea. -

Old Elk Four Grain Private Blend - Loch & K(e)y - The Center Cut
Scotch_Collector posted a topic in Other American Whiskey
I recently picked up the Old Elk Four Grain Private Blend "The Center Cut" for Loch & K(e)y (a whiskey society in Massachusetts). It reminds of "cigar" blends in that is sweet and dense. The Tawny Port and Sauternes barrel influence, along with the high wheat content, is what really interested me. I have a few cigar blends from other distilleries and bottlers and I am not afraid of a "dessert" whiskey. This is definitely that, although the wheat influence is noticeable and there is nice balance between spice and sweetness. My one gripe is that the finishes run together. I have trouble differentiating between Sauternes, Tawny Port, etc. I definitely get some sweet and grape influences and it is nice pour. It is not sticky or overly sweet and I like the spice. This is the first Old Elk bottle I have bought, but I have tried the Port Cask, Sherry Cask, and three cigar blends including the Punch Cut. All are impressive if you want a sweet whiskey. Overall, a nice bottle even if the flavors are difficult to differentiate. 8.25/10 -

What bourbon did you purchase this Winter 2024/25

It's an easy drinking 90 proof Bourbon, nothing really stands out about it good or bad. I used to buy it now and then, when it cost $25 (not that long ago). I could say it's become overrated, or just too hard to find and too expensive for what it is (my opinion). Mash bill #2 can be fantastic with just a little more age and proof. As it is nowadays, BT can sell every bottle of Blanton's or ETL for mad money. No need for them to hold back special barrels for those brands. -

I had a beer from the O’Fallon brewery today called Wheach. It’s a wheat beer with peach influence as you may have guessed. Refreshing on a very hot day - Yesterday

This evening is a couple of pours of Green River Full Proof with my brother. We are both very much enjoying this Bourbon on a super nice weather Memorial day evening. -
Homemade vanilla ice cream is currently churning in the White Mountain ice cream freezer and I'm about to fire up the grill for some burgers. Mrs. Kepler is making some fried okra from her little backyard garden and she already made a cherry pie to go with the ice cream.

At that price, it’s worth a try -
I sure do miss pizza. It seems like an unfair trade to have to trade pizza for brisket. Some will disagree

How is it? I see it often locally, but I pass as it’s much more than $65 -
Ribs and salmon burgers on the grill (no picture) not smoked. Mrs Bret Bret not a fan of smoked meats. Had John J Bowman single barrel in the glass and figured, why waste a perfectly good smoking event when hot coals were ready and put on apple chips for some smoked corn chips. I feel a jalapeño infused tequila moment coming on!!!

What bourbon did you purchase this spring season of 2025?
Richnimrod replied to MSB's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
I've tasted more than a few BT private pix, and most were at-or-above the mark set by the ordinary shelf stock (not an insignificant achievement IMHO). I have also had (and owned 2) that surpass that standard by a noticeable margin. THose a wonderful pours! I actually just pulled down (from the deep-storage area) a 'handle' I bought from a pick I helped choose about 14-years ago. Now, that barrel was absolutely stellar! After I kill off 2-or-3-low-fill bottles in the current rotation, That's gonna be a regular pour. I figured; I ain't gettin' any younger, and tomorrow still isn't guaranteed, so I better start drinkin' some of the really nice pours I have stashed. I deserve it! ...Or maybe I don't; but, HEY! I'm gonna drink 'em anyway! Heee-Heeeeeeeee! -
HA! A tribble! I wonder how many of us get that reference. Most I suppose; but, possibly some few will miss it. That puddytat apparently does have a more than passing similarity, I guess. ...If that first pic is typical.
