  2. thank you for the great feedback. I tend to like the sweeter bourbons, and finished offerings. This may be worth finding. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

I have 1/2 a bottle of the CB that was gifted to me. According to the label it's "Batch 391" and weighs in ~ 110proof. I'm not a big fan of finished whiskey, and it's a tad on the sweet side for my liking but, when paired with a cigar, it really sings. I guess that's the point of the blend. I do appreciate that the barrels that it was finished in don't overwhelm the base whiskey. @Anwalt gave an apt description.

  5. I enjoyed the Barrel Strength, even more so at much less than the secondary market pricing which can be crazy
  6. I picked up a Barrel Strength a couple months ago. I found it to be delicious. Considerably better than the 2 or 3 other btls I had. Enjoy!

    What’s on the menu????

Yes, I whole heartedly agree with your comments. Great post indeed. Anytime we can talk about food and in particular Chicago staples, I am always excited for the dialog given much of my life was spent there. I also agree with your sentiments about telling someone they did wrong by selecting one pizza place over another. Both are largely considered institutions in Chicago, and therefore why not give them both a try. You'll never find complete alignment on one over the other. For what it is worth, they are both very different. In the same way, I would never tell someone not to put ketchup on their Chicago style hot dog. Rather I share with them what most Chicagoan's define as a true Chicago Style experience. At the end of the day, you are paying, you should enjoy it the way you like it
  8. Come to Boston! I have 7 or 8 Cigar Blends - all recommended by Nancy Foley herself. That will be some tasting . . . . . .
  9. I found it for $99. Not terrible. Bought it with the Barrel Strength variety as well. Not easy to find these so I was happy to add them
  10. It is a straight rye whiskey. I have read and heard good things about it but I have yet to try it myself. If you don't kind me asking, what was the price of said btl? I haven't seen a btl in sometime, so nice find.
  11. Curious for thoughts on the EH Taylor Straight Rye. I picked on up yesterday but haven't opened it yet. Is it indeed a Rye bourbon?

    More stuff, part deux…

I bet the Cubs lure sinks to the bottom from the top very quickly. Sorry, I could not resist
  13. I plan to add one to my collection, not sure which one I will add. I would love to find a sample at a bar or restaurant but that's pretty uncommon.
  14. I shall retry it and compare. My "problem" is that I have so many different things that I go an age without trying some of them. When I first got into bourbon circa 3 years ago I was super hot-to-trot on finished stuff. AE bourbon & rye, the 3 JM's, etc. I have loved the JMCB every time I've tried it. I don't know how they've evolved, my bottles are in the upper two-digits and now they are at #300+ (as to batch number). I'll need to blind the JMCB vs the regular. I think the former is more intense, more complex, and higher proof. Both are finished "just right" and started with quality bourbon. Much of the other finished stuff I've had was lower quality bourbon with an overdone finish to mask the fact.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

I was at the grocery store and saw Woodford Batch Proof @ $143. Silly as it seems, that's probably close to MSRP. Then I noticed they had really raised the price on regular MM and RR 10 year (stuff I actually might buy). WTF Ok I'll buy it, but not there.

    Bourbon MEME's

I can't recall who said this, but I totally agree. Star Trek is science fiction. Star Wars is magic. I enjoyed a lot of both, except for the reboot of Star Wars. The Phantom Menace was the worst movie I ever saw in a theater. It's hard to believe, with a huge budget and multiple talented actors - such a bad movie. I made sure to not see any of the following sequels.
  17. Have you tried the Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend? If so, I welcome thoughts

    Empty Bottle Support Group 2025

As referred to in my posts in the “Man Up, Man Down” thread….. Two to the bin!

    Man Down-Man Up

Double down, double up. Kinda. Yes, the MM 101 is empty, but I don’t like the new paper label bottle. I like the old gold embossed bottle. (thank you @smokinjoe) So, I decanted my just opened paper label bottle into my just emptied gold embossed bottle. Minor problem solved. As for the MM, my 750 was emptied, and I refilled it from a 1.75. Next!

    What’s on the menu????

Personally I definitely prefer Giordano's over Lou Malnati's. Both are great. I'd never tell someone that they did it wrong by choosing one or the other. I mean, why do that. I'm happy for the guy that got to enjoy a great dining experience. Great post by Clueby.

    More stuff, part deux…

I received my Father’s Day Maker’s Mark label in the mail today.

  23. Joseph Magnus, the regular one. I forgot how much I liked these. It's a great finished bourbon. Sweet, flavorful, not over-finished. Just great.
  24. Oh now this is very interesting. Looking at the events it very much reminds me of the Kentucky Bourbon Affair events that occurred in the 2010's up until covid killed it. I attended those multiple times and was very sad to see it go away. If I lived closer I'd definitely do some of these events.
  25. Next week is National Bourbon Week in Bardstown (link to website: Events | National Bourbon Week) and the rumor is that tickets to the events sold a lot slower than expected and many events still have tickets available (may have to go direct to the distilleries website to buy tickets for some of the events listed on the NBW website). In the years past, many of the distilleries participating in releasing a whiskey at each location that they called the Bardstown Collection but they decided not to do that this year and maybe thats decreasing the excitement or it's just another sign that Bourbon has lost some of its luster... Either way, I'll be in town most of that week so if anyone else on here is attending any of the events, please let me know and maybe we can meet up to share a pour or two.
  26. I picked up a Jacob's Pardon, Batch 3 last night. I won't get into it until the end of the week most likely. That's the kind of whiskey that you have to bring a mentality of, I have no other plans other than to go to bed after sampling this.
  27. Awesome post. Almost as nice as getting money back from the government is that we're starting to see Eagle Rare in my locale. It is no longer a rare eagle sighting.
  28. Sorry to hear about the most recent house hunting exercise. Bidding wars are great for the seller, not so much for the buyer. Our market here has shifted to a buyer's market with inventory sitting, and new construction flooding the market with incentives. That aside, still a good evening. My evening was spent with my first pour (Weller CYPB), followed by my second pour (Old Fitzgerald 10 year). Best part was spending time with my 10-year-old son at our pool and watching the Dodgers.
