What Bourbon Did You Purchase Summer 2025?

Did a thing this morning. Sat in line for a couple hours for a private pick drop. At least I had Mrs. Clueby, the dog, and some friends for company. It was the damn tater bag that made me do it! I'm a sucker for those. You had to buy the Blue Note pick with the ER pick. They had 90 bottles at this store and there were about 87 people in line. Stopped by the grocery store on the way home to get some ribs for tomorrow and picked up the MM pick. I tried it a few weeks ago and it's a REALLY good barrel. -

One of my standards, VOB 90 proof had gone missing around me the last several months. The 80 proof, in nearly an identical label, had replaced it. Saw the 90 back on the shelf today, so picked up a family sized to quench a bone dry little-‘un. - Today

I bought and tried the Blackened X Rabbit Hole Cask Strength finished in Calvados barrels. I was skeptical about Blackened. I love Metallica but celebrity whiskey? I had good experience with the Nulu High Malt Cask Strength Bourbon, which, as I understand it, is essentially the Beyonce Bourbon but cask strength. My friend had me try his blackened cask strength finished in brandy barrels and I was impressed, although it was more of a desert bourbon (which I like when in the mood - just clarifying). I've see the Blackened X Rabbit hole of a lot of money of MSRP ($150), but was in store that had it at about MSRP ($167). I have a store pick Rabbit Hole Heigold that I enjoy and I decided to give it shot. It is a nice bourbon. Very apple forward, but not overpowering or too sweet. You really get nice apple notes that are distinct and clean along with some nice cinnamon and bourbon sweet/vanilla flavors. My friend tried it last night (who had the Blackened brandy finished cask strength bottle) and said it was similar to an Amburana aged bourbon without the Amburana potency and wood notes. I think it's like a toned down apple pie flavor, but with more green apple notes. Overall, I like it but at that price, it is probably a little steep. On flavor alone, definitely happy to have that bottle. 8/10 -
My good buddy Don in our small, local beer/bourbon/cigar group would heartily approve.

I had a pour of MM earlier this evening. I was intent on having another when I read the post from @markandrex. I changed course and decided to have a pour of WLW to show support for him. Best to you on successful surgeries, and your recovery. Cheers brother! We’re here for you. -

Ooooh! Not all good news; but, at least the plan is now in place and it sounds like the wheels are turning. Best of "luck"; but, I hope it isn't luck that sustains you in this markandrex! Prayers will be sent up for your health. -

WLW in the glass. We met with Orthopedic surgeon, not good. Disks in three areas require fusion/screws. Mid and lower back first, come back in 3-6 months for neck. On a positive note , she got me fast-tracked into the leading spinal clinic in Nashville on Tuesday. Surgery is imminent and soon. The spinal cord is pinched in all three areas. She was impressed but concerned that I was moving at all. Now that the wife is done crying, it is time to relax. Cheers all! -

Picked up a jug of WT for $37.99. It was beside the $50 WT8. Can I join the “cheap bastard” club? -

Yup....they sure did According to my buddy, who owns the LS & does outstanding picks.. "There’s a LOT of speculation on where this is distilled but details below may help you all figure it out or at least make a very good educated guess. Important details below… - Bulleit bourbon - distilled in KY - 10.75 years old - 75% corn 21% rye 4% barley - uses the Bulleit “proprietary” #3 strawberry yeast strain. Think four roses fruity yeast. Not trying to stir the pot here, just commenting. I thought Four Rose stopped supplying distillate to Bulleit years ago. IIRC, they started getting their distillate elsewhere. Brown Forman perhaps? -
It was a really hot week this week, so i ended up not drinking any whiskey at all until today. Now I'm having a pour of this ps traverse city barrel proof rye. It's really hitting the spot. It's loaded with dried ginger candy and cardamom. The fascinating thing about this bottle though is the mouth feel. It is effervescent, almost carbonated in texture, but also oily and mouth coating at the same time.

I haven't seen one of these Bulleit SiBs around since before the pandemic. I only had one bottle but it was excellent. And definitely 4R. -

Probably not the correct location for this post . . . BUT, Here it is, nonetheless. My Bardstown Bourbon Buddy, Phil T. (a poster on this forum) on his journey North was kind enough to go out of his way to stop near me for lunch at a local favorite ethnic restaurant (Hungarian Rhapsody). He and his wife, Amy met up with me and my wife, Gayle for a relaxing interlude, friendly conversation (most of it not about whiskey!), and a 'Hungarian Lunch' before they were off to continue their journey. They'll see his son in Traverse City, then eventually go spend some sightseeing time in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It was particularly nice to see Phil, since I wasn't able to attend the Spring Gathering in Bardstown last April. Phil left with a small-but-special bottle to pour later, 4-R SmBLE, 2016. I trust it will be well-enjoyed. Wonderful to see Phil as well as meet his sweet wifey.

I'm still trying not to buy, except to restock staples, or special bottles. This one falls in the "special bottles" category. I can't wait to try it! It's essentially single barrel Four Roses OESO at barrel proof and is 10.75 years old.... -

With a lot of these NDPs you have to get them in the first several releases. -

I've been on a higher proof kick lately and this was just a very easy drinker. I was probably expecting more. It has good flavor, but I thought it lacked character/complexity. I'll give it another try or two before pulling the curtain on it.
