    Widow Jane

Not sure if Widow Jane qualifies as a craft bourbon, but I see it all the time, but always pass. Anyone tried Widow Jane before?

    What’s on the menu????

yeah, it was way to sweet for me too. I did the same thing you suggested and put it in an old fashioned. I didn't add sugar or simple syrup and it was good. I do have the RD One Maple, and also the thirteen colony. Those are much more subtle.

  6. Just snagged a couple WT101 8 year at a Va ABC store on the way down to Va Beach to visit family. It's allocated, so me and the missus bought one each. $44.00. I hope it's $20.00 better than the standard...
  7. I participated in a whiskey sampling last night. One of the 3 offerings was an Irish Whiskey. The one they provided was Teeling. I'm not a fan of Irish Whiskey, but it was not the worst whiskey I have tasted.
  8. Thank you. I will likely pick up a cask strength as it's the easiest to find
  9. My long awaited wait to sample Old Forester 1924 has come to an end. My bottle arrived yesterday and I had my first pour last night. It was good. Oddly, I preferred the King Ranch variety. That aside, I am not disappointed.

    BOTM 05/2025 Old Forester Rye

Lots of folks recommending the Old Forrester Rye. Easy to find and affordable. Good call
  11. Was re-setting gut biome. Alcohol lamentably interferes with that. That table! Bourbon Joe did it again - that 1982 OWA/Stitzel-Weller. Never had anything like it. He did something similar 2 years ago. A 10y JW Dant from 60's. Never would have had something like that but for him. I helps understand what you guys mean by The Good Old Days. Everything there was great - I was really pleased to try the OF BB 13 with the mutant yeast - thanks to kcgumbohead! Given my lightweight tendencies, I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot. Cheap date & all.
  12. My Sagamore vote, in order of my personal preference: 1. 9 Year 2. 8 Year (nearly as good as the 9, if you cannot find the 9) 3. Store pick (most of these are 110 proof) and I think the "Cask Strength" (non store picks) are probably just as good if you don't see a pick 4. Sherry Finish The Port finish is actually right up there at the top but it's a very limited annual release and almost impossible to find. Good luck and let us know what you end up with!
  13. Agree. I would have bought box set for that price. ( I have never had a chance to buy a BB, sadly)
  14. Wow, I remember paying $39.99 for my last BB. I thought it was ok, but not something I'd chase now. Those 3 375ml boxes look interesting.
  15. Went to a bourbon club dinner/lottery tonight that was Old Forester sponsored/centric. I was the 2nd overall pick and had to settle for 1924 as there was only ONE bottle of Birthday. Also picked up a store pick barrel proof. The food was really good and had good company and conversation.

    Empty Bottle Support Group 2025

If I recall correctly, this was older barrels of Stitzler weller juice that Seagrams bought to mix in their Seagrams seven back in the 80’s. It was “found” in a warehouse that Jefferson’s bought and they marketed very carefully to not cross any legal lines. It was great sourced juice and gave a jump start to Jefferson’s early on. Enjoy and Cheers
  17. Found it! And a few other btls over the last 2 wks.
  18. 1 bourbon, 1 rye....... found their way to my home today. I haven't seen OF Rye in some time and today, BAM, there it is. LQ owner says it has been about a yr since he rec'd any. Lucky me. Finding the 18yr old KC was a big surprise. I don't care to spend this much $$$ on bourbon in the last 2 wks (If you recall I bought EC 18yr and Michter's 10yr bourbon last wk) but my blind tasting of KC 12 and 18 yr olds showed me the light and increased my flexaibility to reach in the pocket for more cash.
  19. Did you have a little too much to drink at The General Nelson or some of the other places we dragged you to help our souls feel wanted?????
  20. Yesterday
  21. I am not feeling well, may I get a care package?
  22. I really like the Cask . I wanna try the 9yr but the price is holding me back, or is that cheap bastard in me that is keeping me from reaching for the wallet??
  23. We took advantage of a dry day and worked outside all day. Came in and 1792 bib seemed to be the right choice for the evening.
  24. Headed to the doctor’s office tomorrow. Turns out he loves rye. Which is not really sold much here in PR. So a care package helps the world go round.
  25. If you come across the 8 or 9 year bottles they are really something special. But pretty much everything they have is good.

    What’s on the menu????

Turn lemons into lemonade! I bought a bottle of the KC Maple last year. Too sweet for me to drink neat, but it is VERY nice in an Old Fashioned. Just don’t add the sugar, or minimally dial back your usual dose of it.
  27. Oh thank God. My palate is returning. Had a RR13. It tasted as it ought.

    What’s on the menu????

I bought a bottle of Knob Creek Maple over the Christmas holiday season. It was a terrible bourbon for me. I gave it to my wife and she used it to honey, maple glaze the ham for Easter. Now that was very good. At $30 a bottle, I may do this again.
