  2. Bought 3, they arrived today, and cracked 1 tonight!

  4. Doing a Sbs of a couple of different Maker's Mark Private Select picks. Sometimes MM just hits the spot perfectly.
  5. Thanks for this excellent and thorough rundown; I shall save this for future reference for shopping sometime down the line!
  6. As far as the barrells go. If you ever come across one of their 13 year Canadian rye single barrels, they are worth a purchase. But it has been a few years since they were released. There was a 14 year since then that was pretty good, but tastes like a different distillate to me.

I haven’t seen it here in Georgia, but I have purchased 2 bottles in the last couple months in South Carolina. Not sure if that indicates irregular distribution, or if my success in SC is due to old inventory. Regardless, I really like this one.

Heck if I know. I'm pretty sure that I bought the bottle that I just killed less than a year ago. I hope so...it's a good one... Edit: it shows in stock at a couple of local LS, (Baltimore metro area)
  10. I had the Barrell Seagrass last night. Not your typical Rye, but it is a Rye nonetheless

thank you for sharing. I enjoy good Manhattan as something different from an Old Fashioned

    Coming of Age

For about the same money, one would be better served to buy Barrell Bourbon and get higher proof offerings that just flat out are better bourbons in my opinion
  13. Better to buy 3 stores picks or 4 regular double oaked for what is essentially the same price
  14. Same thing occurred for me about a month or so ago. I didn't feel terrible about paying $80 for it. Might have had buyer's remorse if I had paid secondary pricing
  15. Bought and opened I've been wanting to try this after reading all the good things about it. After the initial sip? Damn! This is really good!

Is that Jim Beam SiB 108 proof still available? I haven't seen it around me for a couple of years and it doesn't show up on the Jim Beam web site; only the 95 proof version...

    Thank you very much!!
  18. I 'switched' to a half-full bottle of Rebel, Cask Strength, SB (120-pr.) in an effort to drink some low-fill bottles down. I certainly couldn't 'drink it down' today; but I did put a dent in it. It's not a really complex pour; but, it is one of the 'sweetest' Bourbons I can ever remember tasting. It's quite nice over a cube, or even neat. I had two pours. One neat and a bigger pour over a cube. That was "more than enough", if ya' know what I mean. I'll work on this one for the next week or two.

    Cocktail Hour - 2025

Another good warmer weather cocktail on the front patio listening to Braves on the radio. Also, named well for the Memorial Day weekend. An Americano in the Yeti.
  20. And now to the Barely Legal Rye side of the house. I think Beam nailed this one.
  21. I haven't had the rye yet. That will be the next one I try. I'm really liking the black label BiB.
  22. I was given a bottle of regular Bulleit for Christmas. I just opened it, not a fan. Maybe it will get better
  23. I think the 115+ proof Stellum ryes are really good. Lots of flavor, very little burn. And especially for the price, I've been seeing them for $50 - $60 at Unicorn, all in. Makes me want to try some of the Barrell ryes. I was a bit surprised to read it was 100% rye; I thought it might have had some corn. It would appear that the Stellum brand has gone the way of the dodo, Republican professors, and manners in general.

    Cocktail Hour - 2025

Here ya go. BTW, the cocktail before the beer is pretty good on its own. I snuck a sip before tapping it off with the MGD.
  25. Those are outright good, and especially good for the money. BBC did it right and waited for the 6 years. I presently favor the rye.
  26. Tried M10 bourbon yesterday, both '24 and '25, blind with a friend. Both bottles were freshly opened. The '24 was better. Richer nose, varnish & burned carmel. Deeper, richer, longer finish. The '25 was very good. More ethanol on the nose, blocked out some of the scent. Opened up nicely and came into its own about 1/2 hour later...less complex than '24, but still a darned fine pour. Both my friend and I agreed on this. Also tried Blanton's Red & Old Charter Oak French Oak, not blind. Very similar. Much oakier than most BT products. Easy drinkers. I found the Blanton's Red a little hotter than the proof and preferred the OCO - no burn, more oak. My friend preferred the Blanton's Red.
  27. These arrived today. Balvenie was the Scotch that got me into loving Scotch and I’ve been wanting to try this one. This Glenmorangie I’ve never had before, but I tend to like all things from the distillery and the price was right. Threw these bottles in with some bourbon that I ordered to keep the overall shipping cost per bottle down.
