  1. Past hour
  2. How is it? I see it often locally, but I pass as it’s much more than $65

    What’s on the menu????

Ribs and salmon burgers on the grill (no picture) not smoked. Mrs Bret Bret not a fan of smoked meats. Had John J Bowman single barrel in the glass and figured, why waste a perfectly good smoking event when hot coals were ready and put on apple chips for some smoked corn chips. I feel a jalapeño infused tequila moment coming on!!!
  4. Today
  5. Congrats on the ETL. Head on over to the New to the forum area and tell us about yourself.
  6. Scored a bottle of Elmer T Lee at my local Costco last month for 64.99! I am crossing fingers to find it there again!!
  7. I've tasted more than a few BT private pix, and most were at-or-above the mark set by the ordinary shelf stock (not an insignificant achievement IMHO). I have also had (and owned 2) that surpass that standard by a noticeable margin. THose a wonderful pours! I actually just pulled down (from the deep-storage area) a 'handle' I bought from a pick I helped choose about 14-years ago. Now, that barrel was absolutely stellar! After I kill off 2-or-3-low-fill bottles in the current rotation, That's gonna be a regular pour. I figured; I ain't gettin' any younger, and tomorrow still isn't guaranteed, so I better start drinkin' some of the really nice pours I have stashed. I deserve it! ...Or maybe I don't; but, HEY! I'm gonna drink 'em anyway! Heee-Heeeeeeeee!

    What’s on the menu????

HA! A tribble! I wonder how many of us get that reference. Most I suppose; but, possibly some few will miss it. That puddytat apparently does have a more than passing similarity, I guess. ...If that first pic is typical.

  12. Went out for dinner last night and noticed the restaurant had a BT pick listed on the menu. 2 glasses later and this followed me home.

    What’s on the menu????

Elu, the cat. He looks like a tribble when he flattens out. Also loves spinach.
  14. I recently picked up a bottle of Single Cask Nation Auchroisk 13 Year aged 8 years in a bourbon cask and 5 years in a Jamaican rum cask. It is bottled at cask strength. Really nice bottle. I had it a week or so ago when I got it and again a few nights ago. I won't say it is balanced because the rum influence is strong. However, the bourbon influence is still very much present and the balance of the two is great. On the palate you get vanilla and sweetness followed by a sugar rush. The finish is nice sweet floral notes with a little Jamaican funk and tropical fruitiness. Hardly overly "funky" but you know where the rum influence came from. I have never had such a sugary note in a scotch and I like it. Overall, a great bottle. 8.5/10
  15. Sounds delicious - and balanced. I imagine the PX adds some of that nice spice. Sometimes I feel like a sherry bomb, but I often enjoy a nice balanced scotch as well. I recently picked up a bottle that is aged in bourbon and then rum casks. The rum notes are strong, but not overpowering. The bourbon cask influence is still there and lovely. If the Rum had been the only finish it would have been too much. I see you have a Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 10. Very nice. I had an earlier batch that I finished and enjoyed. I still have a Single Cask 12 Year from them from years ago. That pre-dates the Cask Strength batches and is wonderful. One of my favorite bottles. I have a sip about once a year. I am savoring that bottle. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Glemorangie. I am interested to see how you like The Balvenie.
  16. Yeah! Kids, in my experience, seemed to grow "feet-first", eh?! Also, IME, the boys will show greater growth; but, yet may incur lower expenditure on them shoes. I true conundrum. Or not.
  17. Well. Not knowing what to expect is pretty much normal, in my experience anyway. One further note: comparing or even contrasting two similar proof whiskeys from the same distillery MAY be at least a little bit informative. But, doing that same study between two Bourbons from two different distilleries that have no common production or aging warehouses just seems useless. While 1792 Full Proof from Barton and ECBP from Heaven Hill are each from companies in/near Bardstown (I believe HH distillery is Bernheim; not actually in B'town), I think that is the only thing they have in common. Different facilities, different decision-makers, different water (?), different mashbills, different yeasts, different rickhouses; I think all will lead to very few similarities that can offer a basis for drawing conclusions in advance of tasting. Just my take on the question, of course. Others may have insights to offer.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

Sipping on Bardstown Origins6 yr BiB wheater. Nice. Cheers
  19. I remember the first time that somebody gave me a bottle of Evan Williams 12, I was shocked that it was a screw top, especially after the difficulty of getting through all the wax. Doesn’t bother me a bit, though!
  20. Opened this one tonight and I’m a fan, especially for the price for a 1 liter. Not a sherry bomb by any means, but I get peaches, honey, a little spice I can’t identify (maybe nutmeg) with a hint of chocolate.
  21. I'm having some OF Birthday bourbon, this one is the 2018 vintage at 101 proof. I like it.
  22. Hmm, well I don't know why then. Sounds like you are doing everything right. In my experience a store that carries one batch will usually also have each batch as they are released. The big exception is when one particular batch gets super high praise by some influential reviewer (like the A923 batch did) then good luck finding it because the flippers and hoarders snatch them all up. But that's not the normal case. Good luck in your search!
  23. Well, again, let's put it this way. I can taste the difference between my A124 (10yr, 9mo at 119 Proof), vs. my 1792 Full proof at 125. One can definitely taste the barrel in the ECBP. But the 1792 is much smoother in general taste (far less "barrelly") but you feel the proof heat. Not sure if that's because 1792 isn't aged as long. I'm just wondering if a B or C batch of ECBP will taste more smooth/hot like the 1792, or will it be all about the barrel, still? Not that that's bad, I just don't know what to expect.
  24. Finally a two day weekend, and I'm not on the hook for hosting. That will be at my brother's. So after a daddy daughter day I had myself a lsb13 and several a overholts. I took my daughter to brunch at a local spot, then to a topiary garden, followed by shoe shopping. I swear I'm buying a larger pair of several shoes every few weeks. Hence the extra pours.
