Ive been getting these awesome bone in ribeyes from a local boutique grocery. But they are bone in, and not on the tiny end of the cut. I trim them to make perfect steaks. But my large beef rib collection grows. Ive been planning on a giant demi glace cook. However tonight I just felt like a stew. Baby saz again as I make a braised beef rib stew. Also the splatter is just from this meal, and shows up drastically in this photo. I try to keep a very tidy area, but this cook splattered a lot.

They say the only dumb question is the one you didn’t ask. With that being said…. Do any of y’all find it hard to get rid of certain empty bottles? Pictured below are my current empties. I have no problem sending the BT and MM to the big brown bin. I’m not sure about the ER and Blanton’s though. I have about 12 or 15 empties I’ve saved over the years for various reasons. I may add the ER and Blanton’s to those. Thoughts? -

Very understated indeed Kepler. If you want to know what a "honey barrel" tastes like this small batch SCREAMS DELICIOUS. It's also the answer to VBT #770 (Now locked for additional guesses) -
What Bourbon Did You Purchase Summer 2025?

Taking a couple day relaxation trip to Cumberland Falls, KY. A side trip to the Liquor King in Corbin, and picked up some bottles that are not available at all back home, or at least spotty availability. Very glad to add some Cooper’s Craft 100, as I was down to my last bottle. The VOB brings me a smile, as it’s been a while since seeing it, even on some earlier trips to KY and TN. The River Roots “Guardian” was a gift from one of our extended family that we meet up here every year for the family reunion, AKA Hootennanny. -

Guero 15 YR American Light Whiskey Finished in Pinot Noir Casks
smokinjoe replied to Scotch_Collector's topic in Other American Whiskey
While my curiosity to try one of the uber aged varieties of some brand of light whiskey is piqued, the category itself leaves me uninterested. The recent influx of releases hints to me that MGP is offloading barrels to the market simply to get them out of their ricks. And, the buyers are using all the means to make them attractive on the shelf by promoting the high age statement (which to me is fluff, because it’s not apples to apples with other aged brown spirits), attractive dressing (which I can certainly respect and generally appreciate when done well), attempts at pumping as much flavor into them through a multitude of barrel finishes (let’s face it, probably to make it palatable), and with the option of infusing caramel coloring in it to give it a semblance of color that would be expected of such a high age, but is generally not possible in the uncharted or used cooperage. That said, since I have been such a fanboy of David Perkins for so long, and knowing he played around with the category, I can’t dis it too badly! -

What rye are you drinking or purchased 2025

Yeah.....I noticed that, but paid it no mind. According to the Sagamore site, "Each one of our products is proofed with pure, limestone-filtered water from our Spring House built in 1909. It's why each bottle bears a special 1909 marker" I do like their attention to detail... -
Well I haven't tasted Act 11 personally, so I can't say one way or the other. My personal stash of HW Midwinter is almost depleted, so I may have to start purchasing it again, maybe as soon as later this year, ... so I suppose I will eventually find out for myself, hah.

I enjoyed a really good old fashioned last night. Simple blend of bullet rye and bullet bourbon with the usual bitters and sugar mix. Very nice

Still one of my go to bourbons. I would like to add a 12 year at the higher proof but not at the current prices -

I agree on the 1792. I just added one to my collection. I paid more than double $50. At $10 per year, it was worth it to me but I wouldn’t spend more to replace it -
P.S. did you notice that their corks also have their "1909" marker on their cork lines up at the bottle lip? Once you open a bottle and remove the shrink wrap, you can see the "1909" impression on the cork through the glass neck. I guess the year 1909 has some special significance with the history of their distillery grounds. Just a cool detail, that's all.
-
Oh yeah. Their attention to detail with packaging is absolutely second to none. And I mean everyone. Their corks have their logo. But their bottles have all kinds of similar detail on the sides, bottom, multiple angles, etc. Quality execution from their marketing team. YET still they keep their retail prices down and still a great value. They've gradually become my absolute favorite rye whiskey brand.

Whoa! I never noticed the logo on the cork before. I really, really , need to visit the distillery. -

Oh this is definitely happening. As soon as I'm done with my 2nd pour of WT101R, I happen to have a 7 year Sagamore store pick that has a very low fill level. On it!!

Yes, my version is Act 11. Others have shared a similar sentiment about more recent varieties not being as good as the older ones. -

Guero 15 YR American Light Whiskey Finished in Pinot Noir Casks

But in the same way most know Superman is Clark Kent, and vice versa, we have come to understand that high prices tend to come with American Light Whiskey. At least that’s been my experience. -

Just be aware what you are buying. Light whiskey can be quite sketchy, compared to "straight" whiskey. https://vinepair.com/articles/light-whiskey-guide/ Like Superman and Clark Kent, light whiskey and high prices should never be seen together at the same time.... - Yesterday

Guero 15 YR American Light Whiskey Finished in Pinot Noir Casks
Scotch_Collector replied to Scotch_Collector's topic in Other American Whiskey
I don't know. I have only had the 15 year. It enjoyed it and found it smoother than the Jacob's Pardon but not as rich. I really enjoy the Jacob's Pardon, as well as the Penelope, but tend to prefer the Jacob's Pardon because of the richness and more going on in terms of flavors. Having said that, the Penelope is smooth and flavorful. I might have to revisit them, but I imagine I will still prefer the Jacob's Pardon. I have 5 Light Whiskey's now. In order, this is how I rank them. 1. Jacob's Pardon - Small Batch 3 at 142.7% Proof 2. Cat's Eye Obtanium 15 Year - Store Pick for First Fill Spirits in Saratoga Springs, NY 3. Savage and Cooke - Guero 14 Year Light Whiskey finished in Pinot Noir Casks 4. Penelope 15 Year Light Whiskey 5. RY3 14 Year - Store Pick for Norfolk Wine and Spirits in Norfolk, MA. They are all very good and I am splitting hairs a bit, especially for the top 3.
