  2. That picture is making my mouth water. Love MGP rye!
  3. This is the hardest point to get across to people who are buying whiskey gifts for others. Also, new whiskey drinkers. But it must work, because the producers keep doing it.

My Recent Bardstown Weekend - My Son's First Trip

Excellent, thoughtful, "in depth" 'report, DPPSmoker! Great to see you back! Certainly sounds like a really good time for you with your son. I know how rewarding that can be, and look forward to my next visit with my son to "The Motherland". Next April, God willing. Thanx so much for this entertaining write-up!
  6. Almost loox too pretty to drink!

    Empty Bottle Support Group 2025

Not much left in this one, so I dumped it into the 750 I had open. Not much left in it either.

My Recent Bardstown Weekend - My Son's First Trip

Hi Joe. We stopped by BBC immediately after our ChickFilA sandwich and fries. My son saw some of the lunch plates at BBC when we were there and he said he wished we dined at BBC. Lesson learned.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Summer 2025?

What a ClusterF¥{K Monday. A lot to do going in, and a multitude of problems kept me to only getting a fraction of them done. So, called it a day after throwing some shit across my office (luckily didn’t break anything…), poured an Old Forester 86 proof over a big, clear, cube, and now sitting outside to decompress and get some fresh air. Breathe…..

    Baby saz 100 proof

Thanks!. Looking forward to this. I find Baby Saz, and it’s BTAC daddy TH Handy to possess beautiful baking spices notes. The barrel proof Handy carries them forward with much more graceful strength than Baby Saz…as it should. And, while I really like Baby Saz, I have always felt more proof would help it a great deal. Hopefully 100 does the trick! Nice price point, too!

    Baby saz 100 proof

The one I've seen on breaking bourbon looked like the standard bottle with a sticker on the lower section of the bottle.

    Baby saz 100 proof

I have long been a fan of the Baby Saz, and it’s been readily available in my area for a couple years since things began to loosen out of BT. 10 extra proof points I believe will help it, as at times it’s profile can get a little lost for me depending on my palate condition. Is there a different bottle design/label change, as well?

    Baby saz 100 proof

Baby saz has long been one of my regular budget pours. I also try and keep wt 101r, ritt, and of 100r on the shelf. But I've heard and see on breaking bourbon that a new 100 proof version is now being released. If anyone finds or tries it please let me know how it goes.
  19. Here is an exception... the maryland heritage series ryes were some of the best whiskey I have ever tasted. There were a number of "gift sets" that came in this fancy wooden box with an etched glass. The small box is a one off prototype for the sibs, but was not released as the product was already deemed to be costly enough without the additional cost of the boxes.

What Bourbon Did You Purchase Summer 2025?

Blanton’s bags make for a great golf tee bag…Just sayin’…
  21. I too was surprised at the difference, that's why I thought I'd torture myself with that initial pour of RB15, I fully expected to hate it. The SBS a few days later between the 12&15 was downright shocking even though it simply confirmed my impressions of both. Yeah we all have palate vagaries and that's part of the fun of this hobby, trying things and discovering what you like, love, dislke...regardless of how others may perceive that very same thing.
  22. I agree, but I think it is wasteful. I actually just had a customer say he didn't want the bag on that particular Old Fitz last week. It will be in a landfill soon enough. In general I tell customers that if you are going to buy by the look, go for the least fancy packaging, rather than the reverse. Good juice doesn't need fancy packaging to sell, and often, fancy packaging is an attempt to sell juice for more than it is worth. Of course their are many exceptions.
  23. Simply put, packaging sells. This applies to a lot of things in life. In the case of the store pick bottles, it’s also a way for stores to pad raising the price a bit in a sneaky way, without quite as much criticism for gouging the customer. Doing quick math on the yellow/brown ER, it comes out to $55 before tax. Assuming $40 to be retail, they’ve padded the bill by $15 (x200 bottles) minus their cost of having the bags made. So let’s conservatively say that they made approximately an extra $2K on the barrel, depending on how much the bags cost to make/buy. The customers typically feel like they’re getting something extra for the money (a fancy bag), the store has padded the bill/increased its profit, and most likely very few people are upset at the end of the day. Even though I know the game, I still went and got one. Mostly just to hang out in the line and BS for a couple hours with some people.

What Beer Are You Drinking In 2025

I came across a cool article about the city of Cincinnati looking to expand the tourism potential of its maze of beer tunnels under the city. I had never even heard of such a thing as a beer tunnels under. I love old stuff like this. https://www.ohiotraveler.com/cincinnatis-old-brewery-tunnels/
  25. Had a bit of this last night. Going to finish it this week. Not technically a Bourbon because it is Canadian. Incredible juice though

My Recent Bardstown Weekend - My Son's First Trip

Great write up! Sounds like y’all had a great time. Thanks for sharing! On the Maker’s Special bottle, you can order a personalized bottle from them through your local liquor store. A label comes separately that is custom printed with what you want, and you affix it to the bottle. Nice gold box and gold wax. I got one when my daughter was born, and she, mom, and I opened it on her 21st birthday. It’s a very nice presentation, while the whiskey inside is just their standard 90 proof. Next time y’all go, talk your son out of the Chick Fil A, and hit up that BBC restaurant. I have been twice, and both meals were very good. See, now you have another reason for another trip!
