  2. When we are in Marietta my wife insists on Frankie's. I guess we'll have to look up Colletta's next time. It sure looks nicer but....:)
  3. I was out and about this weekend in South Texas and didn't discover it anywhere. It's still early on. Glad to hear the flavor profile is aligned to the typical Old Fitzgerald profile.
  4. Thanks to @0895 for picking mine up as well and for bringing the old bottle to sbs with. My thoughts concur with his (shock!!).

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

Our sons have got to have pretty close birthdays, as he's also 5 1/2. I opened a bottle of OE7 when we got home, which did not last long haha. On topic: Enjoyed a pour of ECBP B523 for Father's Day.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

Last week was a pretty long one. The coming week looks to be the same if not more so. I decided to deviate a bit from my norm and have something different/special tonight. Part reward and part prep for the coming week. Cheers y’all! P.S. For those newer members here, this was a SB private pick from 2013. A true group effort that I was proud to be a small part of. Heaven Hill Select Stock, 8 yr old wheated bourbon, finished in cognac casks for 19 months, 127.6 proof. I forgot how good this was. Absolutely wonderful.
  8. I tried it sbs with an old gold / green label BiB. The new product is definitely more in the old fitz profile. It initially comes off a bit sweet and includes a hit of the spearmint that the old stuff has. It’s pretty good, but not really up to the levels that most of the fancy decanters hit. The old gold/green label stuff seemed darker, more complex and just all around a better product. So similar to the old white label HH6 BiB, they brought the old fitz back a few years later (after hiatus) at a higher price point ($50 vs. $20), but lesser product. While it’s disappointing for us old timers, the young guns will never know what they’re missing.
  9. Apples and oranges! There is a difference between what WT is doing with normal brand extensions off products that are always readily available on store shelves and what BT does with extending brands that have been unavailable on shelves for over five years.
  10. $49.99 in Texas. I haven't bought one but it is making the rounds on local tater bourbon social media. I'll wait until it's available on store shelves because I'm sure it's very solid for that price. The barrels going into this are definitely not as well curated as the 8, 9 and 10-year Old Fitz BiB Decanter series (because the new 7 is more mass produced), but every one of the 8-10 year BiB decanter bottles that I've had have been stellar. Early feedback from reviews I've seen are that the new OFz 7 year is true to the OFz flavor profile and not similar to Larceny/Larceny BP.

Haha this is where I'm at. If my best local monger (Spec's) offers me one for msrp I'll certainly buy it. Otherwise I don't feel I'll be missing anything. Got plenty of BT expressions to scratch that itch when needed.
  12. This is BS. Avoid at all costs.

Follow up. If I can't find it on a shelf for MSRP it can go fuck itself. I don't give a damn.

It has been released. I will sit it out until the dust settles.

But is it? Granted, the real objective has certainly been achieved (media buzz).

Elmer T Lee - worth it?

To get to what the OP was asking: I've tasted both ETL and RHF, and thought they were fine, but have never bought a bottle of either. Have some good Blanton's options, so FOMO is minimal. That being said, I may go $100 for either if I were to see them at that price.

The good news is EAGLE RARE 12yr has been released.
  18. what's the old fitz 7 going for? who's tried it?

    Eagle Rare 12yr

Agreed. Aesthetically, it's one of my favorite distilleries. I can go back and back again just for that. The scene I want no part of.

    What’s on the menu????

We made another batch of pizzas tonight in our pizza oven. Really great flavor. They cook up really fast. I followed it up with some 2021 Sweeten’s Cove which I found for $50. Not a bad whiskey, although I think I prefer the Kennessee.
  22. I enjoyed the 10 year. I bet the 13, 14, 17 year are fantastic. Finding them at a reasonable price point is the challenge
  23. I really enjoy the Barrell offerings. Really good stuff and if you can find them on sale, even better. Let us know how you like it
  24. If you look closely, there are little pellets of something captured inside the strainer. I'm sure it's not "removing" anything; instead it is adding something to the liquid in your glass, in order to fool you into thinking your whiskey tastes better. No thanks -- I'm not interested in adding any type of flavoring component to my whiskey that I paid good money for to taste it as it comes out of the bottle. 100% gimmick.

Gag. I visited the BT facility for the first time in 2012, and returned 3 more times by 2017. Today, I have zero interest in going there anymore. The scene there of people lining up for bottles every single day (instead of just enjoying the beautiful grounds and touring the actual distillery) really turns me off.
