  3. I understand. Sometimes you feel like a sherry bomb, sometimes you don't. I have more wine/sherry/port, etc. finishes than bourbon or other wood finishes in my single malt collection. However, I am not always in the mood for that flavor profile. I really enjoy all different casks, but from a collectors perspective, it is fun the amount of different types of finishes exist in the wine world. Different kinds, different time in them, different bases, different aged end products, etc.
  4. The Spice Tree is a very interesting bottle. The Spaniard was a steal! Sad to see them go.
  5. Picked up a bottle of The Spice Tree, since it has been retired/discontinued by Compass Box, along with The Spaniard. Both of those are two that I have always tried to keep on hand, but I have also tried the new ones that will be replacing them in the regular line-up, and they do not disappoint either.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

Just went to 1 store today (Spec's) to pick up a bottle of Scotch, but there was a ton of formerly hard to find stuff sitting on the shelves. EH Taylor Small Batch, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey 101 8-year, and Weller SR were all sitting on the shelves. Didn't need any of those and stuck to the mission and just grabbed the Scotch. I also saw a Woodinville 8-year, which was tempting until I saw the price. They wanted $130 for it, so I passed. I have enjoyed the couple of bottles of Woodinville that I have had, but that seemed like a lot for an 8-year.

    So, whatcha smokin?

I burned it at both ends this week and last at the plastic factory, dealing with a special project. Several 12 hour days, so I’m gonna burn this Punch Clasico, kill a Corona, then move on to throwin’ down some bourbon for the rest of the evening. I believe I’m feeling better already!
  9. Nice. I like the SiB as well. I've been wanting the 8yr myself but only found 1, well 3 all at the same store, at 95$. I'll wait until I can get it closer to MSRP.
  10. The BiB. Always a good one. Would love to find a single barrel.
  11. Happy Birthday to you. (Early) Which New Riff did you pick up?

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

For some reason, Eagle Rare 10 had been hitting the spot for me lately. Weller remains my favorite and just got a bottle of Full Proof.
  13. New Riff, OGD114. Turn 65 on Sunday so looking around for something special, just for me!!!!

BT to add EH Taylor product to BTAC line

I'm not even sure how much the folx at BT really care about hitting a "flavor profile" for this 'new' addition to the BTAC line. Being a 'new' addition, it possibly could set its own flavor profile, maybe. Not saying they would look for something to be a big departure; but, maybe wouldn't mind a great deal if it was a bit 'different'. And, given the fact that any brand included in the BTAC line will be an instant "must have", and a guaranteed success... Wellllllllll....
  17. VOB100 after homemade shrimp stir fry for dinner.
  18. Pickd up these today. Haven't had the OE 7yr for several yrs since the price went from 40ish$ to almost 80$. Opened it up at the LQ store and shared with the owner and his beer rep. We both were really pleased with it, the beer rep, I think he is more of a beer guy, but he drank it. As for the Lux Row Dbl SiB Four Grain, the LQ store owner said he like it at 80$. So at 49.99$ the price was right for picking one up and giving it a spin myself.

BT to add EH Taylor product to BTAC line

Food & Wine reports that the EH Taylor BTAC expression "will be 100 proof, aged longer than the standard E.H. Taylor Small Batch, and built on Buffalo Trace’s low-rye mash bill, though final tasting notes and age details remain under wraps." So 1 proof point different than Eagle Rare 17 and the same mash bill. Regular EH Taylor single barrel is supposed to be a minimum of 9 years old, so I'd expect the BTAC version should be at least mid-teens in age, but as discussed above, it really seems like it will be very close on specs to ER 17. Then again "regular" Eagle Rare and EH Taylor aren't that far apart on specs either, so I guess it all comes down to selecting flavors to match the brand's distinct flavor profile.

What rye are you drinking or purchased 2025

Back in the day when I was in the Army, I had Spirytus long before it was ever sold in the US. A fellow band member was first generation US/Polish. He received “gifts” from time to time from family members in Poland. The Spirytus actually arrived in a goat skin bag. We had a unit party just before he was transferred to another duty station. He made sure that everyone had a swig of his Spirytus. Tilt your head back, open your mouth, squirt, next.

    Man Down-Man Up

We've been sipping on the L for quite a while, and opened the A tonight. We enjoyed the last of the L better than the first of the A.
  23. To close out spring, I sampled the Remus Great Gatsby Cask Strength. It was rather enjoyable.
  24. Sadly, I expect more of this trend to occur. It would align to the standard for Europe which I understand also has a 700ml bottle.
  25. Today's pour is the third trial of Cooper's Craft. The first and second came during what was most likely a low-grade sinus infection. The ugly drainage resulted in making the whiskey bear an unfortunate, strong resemblance to DayQuil cold medicine. This is definitely not a sweetie-pie dessert dram to my tasting. A little hot to begin, lots of orange rind and a bit of brown sugar, and a significant oak tannin at the finish, like an actual quick lick of a board would produce. I know my tasting notes are inferior, as I usually have a hard time finding suitable comparables to what my mouth is sensating (eat your heart out, Norm Crosby), but I did say in the Cooper's Craft RIP thread that I would report my findings. When it comes down to the nitty gritty of it all, I probably would not buy another of these.
  26. Interesting. What ratio of the Rare Breed & RR10?
