  2. Yes it's a good price here as well. It was on sale ... normally Booker's is around $100 to 110. That said, $85 is still $30 to $40 more than I paid for all the other Booker's in my bunker, so it's still a hard pass for me.

    Knob Creek Bourbon X Rye

I'm glad you posted it. Someone will surely be interested that didn't know about it otherwise (I, for one, was not even aware of it). I hope whoever tries one will post their thoughts on here for the rest of us to find out whether we want to try a bottle.
  4. Today
  5. I've also seen Roulette rye on my local shelves but didn't pick up. I have plenty of MGP rye already (mostly several bottles of Redemption 10 yr BP that I bunkered at sale price)... now you are making me wonder if I need to try Roulette. The price is right so I wouldn't be out much investment either way.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

And here I thought "got lucky" meant something else. (Haha.)

Starlight Double Oaked 6-year (finished in American Oak), 111.5 proof The other day I tried the Starlight Double Oaked 7-year (finished in French Oak) and it was fabulous, so today I picked up (and have opened) the 6-year offering finished in American Oak. I'm normally not a big fan of double oaked or finishes in general , but I decided to get out of my comfort zone and experiment a little. Glad I did! The 6-year offering finished in American Oak is more in the neighborhood of what I expect from a double oaked product (rich oak, chocolate, tart cherry jam, vanilla) whereas the 7-year finished in French Oak is a fruit bomb that drinks like a high-rye bourbon or a barely legal rye whiskey.
  9. Yes 1 liter. The drawing that I picked up the W12 had all the high end stuff gone by the time my number was drawn. I had only ETL, Blanton's and the 750 & 1L sized Weller 12 bottles left to choose from. For me it was an easy choice, it's the best drinker and an economy sized to boot.
  10. I'm guessing my 7 year old had a little help with her father's day gift this year.

    Knob Creek Bourbon X Rye

I stopped in to take a closer look at the beast. The label says 30 percent 9 year old bourbon and 70 percent 7 year old rye. I know I said I would buy a bottle to try, and the price was near what I expected ($43), but I looked at the regular KC 9 nearby and the regular KC rye, 7 years old, on the other side and just didn't feel as if I would get much more out of this than if I had bought the two and mixed them. And this may not even be the whiskey's fault, but instead a case of untrained, non- discerning palate. So, long story short, I'm sorry I brought it up. Perhaps someone else will give it a go.

Thanks, my friend is more the "cool local place" kinda guy than the "hottest posh restaurant." I'll tell him to ask his son about Clyde's or Old Ebbitt Grill.

    Cocktail Hour! - 2024

Local persons in the 1960s decided to open a bar/restaurant catering to their likes. It became the "Clyde's" group of restaurants. There are several in and around Wash DC. Clyde's Chevy Chase is close to our house, and we go a lot for lunch. Downtown, Clyde;s runs the "Old Ebbitt Grill", a WDC landmark sort of as its namesake has been around since the Civil War. Food and service are better than average but not "special" or "eclectic" - no fried octopus on squid ink pasta. www.clydes.com If your friend is adventurous, Jose Andres still manages some restaurants in WDC. The Wash Post website also has a "Food" section that lets you search for restaurant reviews by location, type of food, cost, noise, etc. Several restaurants recently received some Michelin starts, but our experience with them is - reserve months early and be prepared to still wait once inside, and the noise levels are usually pretty high. WashPost longtime food critic Tom Sietsema compiles "top 10" type lists several times during the year based on food type and location. Another critic, Tim Carman, hits smaller restaurants that, mostly, are neighborhoody. His reviews also are covered by the WashPost search function.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

Booker's at $85 is a clear buy around here. I've see it for as much as $179 IIRC, the state minimum is $99.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

Interesting as I too have always preferred the VOB line to the upmarket 1792 and for the same characteristic you mentioned. I guess my palate is a cheap date LOL!! Good for me and my wallet!!

Is this restaurant somewhere you would recommend? My friend is going out to DC next week to visit his son. Thanks.

    Cocktail Hour! - 2024

I will have to try this recipe; I made a berry smash recently and was very disappointed.
  19. Thanks Joe. I guess my head has been in the sand. I doubt I will locate one though. I have yet to find a RR13 in my area. Always same story, “we only got one bottle” I wonder if the stores think we actually believe that story. Having said all of that, I will be on the lookout for the 15yr. Thanks again Joe. Cheers
  20. I guess I wasn't paying attention. At first I thought the RR15 was a supplemental release, but according to the press release it sounds like it will replace RR13, assuming only temporarily. That's disappointing to me. It's hard to beat 13 yrs as the approximate ideal age for turkey. https://www.fredminnick.com/2024/06/14/russells-reserve-releases-15-year-old-bourbon/?trk_msg=0FMFDS9QCR64D1C5FEHSTKM4PC&trk_contact=48DJQDBAM15VHGGPVPCN8379EO&trk_sid=696LHLL2B15U9S8TSE2AVCA9S0&trk_link=BGC1Q1K8HNQK11PM64A79B09MS
  21. Passed on ECBP A124 for $66 and Booker's for $85.
  22. That looks absolutely great.
  23. EC C923 to end the night. I wish I had a backup.
  24. I've been enjoying this bottle a lot recently. I like its crisp freshness during the summertime. Today I picked up a backup 'pre-woke' bottle.
