The B.I.B. they make themselves. The other Bourbon they have is sourced from one or more of the big distillers in KY. Bulleit Rye is from MGP in IN.

Agreed. I have quite a few wheated bourbons as well as some nice wheat whiskeys. Dry Fly makes a nice cask strength wheat whiskey, or at least they used to. I have a 375ml of the straight wheat whiskey as well as one that is finished in PX casks. Really nice stuff. To answer your question, what does reasonably priced mean? I think it was fair for a whiskey that age and with those finishes and blend. Cigar cuts go for $100-$200 usually and I consider this in the same vein. It was $125 and in Massachusetts, where there is no liquor tax.

Just back from a quick biz trip, and going with Early Times BIB. Going through this bottle and the previous ET BIB rather quickly. It’s like WT 101 is to me, in that it has a lane it races in, and it just creams it. Not similar in taste to WT, but it’s similar in where it fits in my “what won’t fail me right now” category.

Some PVW15 in the glass tonight. They came down 6k as soon as we started talking. We are getting with our banker trying to make this work without trashing a retirement fund and getting killed on taxes. Once we sell the existing, we will pay off the new one and have a nice profit left over. They are not going to like our offer but see where they go. Lots of contingencies, for them to address. If all goes well, tomorrow we begin negotiations.

I passed on the Bulleit bib recently too. It was $54.99 and the Bulleit cask strength was $49.99. I did get the cask strength. I don't know why the bib was cheaper.

It is amazingly better. It was surprising to me what a difference ten proof points (and perhaps some barrel picking) made. I like the SFTB even more.

interesting blend. I like the whiskey's with higher wheat content in the mash bill. Was this one reasonably priced?

I have only tried the Single Barrel. It's not my favorite. A few have suggested I try the Gold variety which is considered to be notably better.

I watched a movie I DVR'd off of Starz (I think) a couple days ago. Not a highly promoted film, I think. I'd never heard of it. I recorded it based on two actors in the cast: Morgan Freeman and Cole Hauser. It's entitled; The Minute You Wake Up Dead. Anyway, back to the point of the post... A little past halfway through, Mr. Hauser's character is seen pouring himself and his secretary a nice pour of WT101 into a couple lowball glasses. And the label is quite clearly seen. NICE! The movie wasn't bad either. No prize winner; but, lotsa plot twists and 'developments'. ...And, it wasn't even 90-minutes. Lately, I prize shorter films. I guess my attention span is shrinking along with the rest of my noodle. Oldtimers, I think.

VOB100 tonight. Only one or two as we are debating on another house here in town to down-size into. It is tuff looking at giving up about 1500 sq. ft. A lot of this stuff has to go. The lot is about 2 acres less also. There is a pool (much smaller, a plus), a spa and a shed (much smaller)

Back to work after an extended weekend. I felt like something special...top shelf...and extremely tasty. RRBP. Simple pleasures are the best!

Ole faithful.

I recently picked up the Old Elk Four Grain Private Blend "The Center Cut" for Loch & K(e)y (a whiskey society in Massachusetts). It reminds of "cigar" blends in that is sweet and dense. The Tawny Port and Sauternes barrel influence, along with the high wheat content, is what really interested me. I have a few cigar blends from other distilleries and bottlers and I am not afraid of a "dessert" whiskey. This is definitely that, although the wheat influence is noticeable and there is nice balance between spice and sweetness. My one gripe is that the finishes run together. I have trouble differentiating between Sauternes, Tawny Port, etc. I definitely get some sweet and grape influences and it is nice pour. It is not sticky or overly sweet and I like the spice. This is the first Old Elk bottle I have bought, but I have tried the Port Cask, Sherry Cask, and three cigar blends including the Punch Cut. All are impressive if you want a sweet whiskey. Overall, a nice bottle even if the flavors are difficult to differentiate. 8.25/10

I have had a couple btls of their SiB FP that were very very good. Hard to find at least in my area and travels.

It's an easy drinking 90 proof Bourbon, nothing really stands out about it good or bad. I used to buy it now and then, when it cost $25 (not that long ago). I could say it's become overrated, or just too hard to find and too expensive for what it is (my opinion). Mash bill #2 can be fantastic with just a little more age and proof. As it is nowadays, BT can sell every bottle of Blanton's or ETL for mad money. No need for them to hold back special barrels for those brands.
