What’s open on your bar? 2024-???
Kepler replied to fishnbowljoe's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
Impressive list. But you have 6 Old Forester BP SiB open at the same time? How do you find the variation barrel to barrel? -
What rye are you drinking or purchased 2025
Scotch_Collector replied to Mattk's topic in American Rye Whiskey
I have had Pikesville. It was years ago but, if I recall, it was too over the top rye spiced for me. Maybe I should try it again? I'll have to revisit, but the Rittenhouse I have from the local whiskey society is rich but not as spice dominant. That is what I prefer. I like some of the pepper and spice but not a ton and I prefer not to have the medicinal/herbal notes present. I like more mellow ryes and finished ryes. I like the balance of a nice finished rye. I have a Dark Arts Rye from the local whiskey society that is finished in white and red port casks. Really juicy and balanced and still has nice rye notes. That is my jam. - Today

I picked up a KC 9 today myself. It was at a good price for me at just under 31$ OTD. -

Have you ever tried Pikesville. It's basically the age stated higher proof version of Rittenhouse. I like them both.

That sounds wonderful. It's on my list to search for when I visit other states. I see KY and TN get it, IN - no. Maybe compares to some of the great MGP stuff Smooth Ambler used to have. -

Rittenhouse is really solid. I have a bottle from my local whiskey society. Cannot beat it for the price. -
Speaking of 'late'... I was born a couple days too late, it seems. Shoulda had better planning, I guess. I'll mark another year of breathing the air on planet Earth Monday. (If anybody cares, I'll turn 29 . . . again. HA!)

Thank you! To celebrate, I'm having a straight rye whiskey, neat!

Decided to kick off the grilling season this afternoon. Threw together what I'll call the All-the-Fruit-in-the-Crisper Spritzer. Orange, lime, lemon and pomegranate juices with a little sugar, couple of ounces bourbon/rye, top with seltzer. Color coordinated with the Weber. And tasted good with chicken merguez sausage that's been in the freezer since Xmas.

Wild Turkey 101 8yr Jimmy Russell 70th Anniversary release
Jazz June replied to flahute's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
It should be noted that Wild Turkey 101's age statement came off in 1992, well before the bourbon boom. This was not a change due to the market forces of the last 10-15 years as most of the lamented lost age statements were. As some have noted, there could be incremental changes (more older whiskey, discounts by distributors/retailers) that would make the 8/101 more attractive without a need for a change in the MSRP, but I think the difference in the MSRPs ($28 versus $45) already leaves room for both the NAS 101 and the 8-year version. The products that really don't make sense to me are the 101 picks and Kentucky Spirit, because they are significantly more expensive with no increase in proof and little to no increase in age. Obviously there can be stand-out single barrels, but they are making it a tough sell. Also, it is unfortunate but likely true that the NAS 101 has sunk in quality as they prepared for the 8/101 and that the quality difference between the two may become more noticeable the longer the domestic 8/101 exists. All that said, I'm happy with the domestic re-introduction of the 8/101 and think $45 is within the realm of reasonable on price, but everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion! -

Buddy of mine told me last week that an LS about an hour away from where I live was getting in a new Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Proof store pick this week. Yesterday I found myself nearby for work so wandered in on lunch break to see if it had arrived yet. No dice on the ECTBBP, but this beauty was sitting on the shelf all by itself for $88. -
