  2. Happy birthday! I also sipped an Elmer T Lee last night. Cheers to you sir
  3. Lol. Gotta love it when you find something you forgot stashed away somewhere. I dig the BiB and SiB versions. Haven't had enough of the 12yr or wheat to have an opinion.

    Wild Turkey 101 - 8 Year

I agree. I first noted this years ago in Japan. It was back in a day where I wasn't terribly interested in whiskey, bourbon. Happy to see it is coming our way.
  5. Seeing this thread prompted me to revisit my trusty Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond. At the price point, it's a really good pour.
  6. I did try the Jack Daniel's Single Malt last night at a tasting. I did not care for it. Will try another and see if I feel differently

That would be awesome! I've had several; of the Japanese market ones, and they're fantastic

  9. lucky you. I've heard some wonderful things about this one.
  10. I've been on the lookout for this one to complete my trifecta of single barrel offerings from Old Forester. The barrel strengths are very good at a very affordable price point.

    1792 15yr

    Yes they are Barton.
  12. I think GBS is short for Georgia Bourbon Society. Note the OP lives in Georgia. I assume this bottle is from a private barrel selection by that group. Now, please don't hurt me...
  13. I participated in a Jack Daniels tasting last night that highlighted their Bonded Series. I was able to try their Bonded Rye which was great as I've been warming to ryes as of late. Historically my rye consumption was often limited to Old Fashioned and Manhattans, largely because the piney and peppery notes didn't sit with me. After the recommendations of many of you (thank you), I finally found a rye that was enjoyable on its own from Sagamore (double oaked). The Jack Daniels Bonded Rye took me right back to my prior sentiments about ryes. The peppery finish was just too overpowering for me on its own. I'll look for their single barrel offering to sample and see if I come away with the same impressions.

    1792 15yr

Im intrigued. Does anyone know if the Calumets are the same mash bill as 1792 (if they are indeed Barton products)? I tend to get a lot of ethanol off 1792 products, especially the Full Proof, but I didn't get any of that with the older Calumet releases. Im guessing if they are the same mash bill, that the age helped with the ethanol smell and taste I usually picked up in the Full Proof, but they could be totally different mash bills too.
  15. Yesterday was WT 101 8year, KC9 and Bulliet BiB. While watching tennis. Right now Alcaraz and Sinner!!

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

Nice and, damn! You might have to rent a storage locker after you move. I rarely see the BiB around here and hope to find a replacement.
  17. Haven't had the 12 year but LOVE the BiB and FP. Good job!!!
  18. BiB was the highlight of the flight. I found a case of SP from Liquor Barn in a closet.

    Cocktail Hour - 2025

As a part of a Jack Daniels whiskey sampling event yesterday, they offered a cocktail with Jack Daniels Bonded, grenadine, a splash of orange juice. The grenadine was really overpowering. I bet if it was toned tone, it would not have been so bitter to me.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

Which one did you like the most? I'm not a big fan of 1792 (they seem a little hot to me..even the standard), but the BiB falls squarely in my wheelhouse. That and the VOB 100 are my favorites from Barton.

Elmer T Lee - worth it?

To bring some closure to this (at least from my perspective)... I did quite a bit of research on what the MSRP is, and more importantly, what the fair market value is for Elmer T Lee. One of my data points said it best, It's the best $40 bourbon you can buy for $250. I knew I was not going to pay $250 for the bottle. That said, I found some sources that had noted the MSRP for this was creeping up. One site suggesting the MSRP was now $80. While I am not sure that MSRP is that high, I will say seeing EH Taylor Small Batch at $60 at the big box liquor stores tells me it's entirely possible. That aside, my research told me the average price for Elmer T Lee is +/- $170. My high-water mark for this bottle was no more than $150. Finding it locally, and negotiating with the small liquor owner, I was able to buy the bottle for less than my high-water mark. A win for me and so I enjoyed a sip last night.
  23. Got into 1792 last night, FP, BiB and 12 year.

    So, whatcha smokin?

Punch Classico, Major Dickason's in the cup and an easy read, (Nelson Demille's "The Maze") on a mild Sunday morning on the back porch with my little buddy makes for a fine start to the day. Punch is my "go-to" smoke...kinda like the WT101 of cigars...it never disappoints.

    Coopers Craft R.I.P.

I know both men. Different circumstances for another thread. Happy to share my life as a professional umpire with anyone who is interested (preferably over bourbon)
