What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

Second pour of the evening, E H Taylor SmB.
  3. How awesome. I’m still waiting for a hot and humid day here. It’s coming, no doubt about it
  4. I just learned there’s also a 12 year. Anyone tried this?
  5. Conventional wisdom is to wait for Memorial Day weekend to plant your garden, and as the true beginning of summer. I disagree. The first SB member's photo of a frosty bottle of Yellow Label in a back yard is the true indicator. Thank you for the affirmation.

    Empty Bottle Support Group 2025

    The KC18 says goodnight.

  9. Thanks for the positive feedback on blending down the fp. I wish i could have had the 8yr RR for 22$. And the rye as well. I will have to take your word on those.
  10. Sagamore Bottled in Bond in my glass now.
  11. Yes, definitely blend the Full Proof with any well-aged Barton's bourbon to tone it down. You can thank me later. I have tried all the 1792 bottles they've released. I can just say I liked the brand a lot better when they only had an 8 year age stated Ridgemont Reserve bottle for 22 bucks. Of their current available offerings, IMHO only the beige neck bank "Single Barrel," the yellow Bonded, and the basement priced Small Batch are worth purchasing at regular MSRP. Yes the Full Proof is a flavor bomb but it's kinda hot and doesn't provide anything better flavor-wise than the SiB or Bonded. Too many people are blinded by high proof. The High Rye was probably my favorite, but from what I've heard, it's been discontinued... (until they lay down more barrels anyway)
  12. I really enjoy my 1792 bib's. I also find the off the shelf version of the SiB to be a very wise choice as well.(imo) I have had fp, fp sp, sib, sib sp, 12yr, bib, bib sp and wheat releases. They are in their own way a good drink, but I prefer the bib and sib from the shelf. I was just thinking I might have to do a blend of the fp and smb......Anyone try this on SB? Suggestions on mix ratio?
  13. Interesting, I didn't even realize that EC18 was a single barrel. I tasted one once from a family member's bottle, and was done with them after that. And this was back when there were available for $90ish or less. I've never even paid attention to them since then. Knob Creek has figured out how to get the good part (sweet oak) without the bad part (dry tannins).
  14. Finally, got the 4R Yella Label in the freezer. Finally, got a good hot and muggy day to open it up. Finally, got my yard work done, so sipping on this cold beauty while listening to Braves post game show on the radio.
  15. Pulled this one out of the basement. Man it aged NICELY! It was bottled in December of 2016. Was cold aged in a basement fridge.
  16. The EC can at times be very astringent and get that "sucking on a toothpick" taste. But since they are single barrels, when you find a good one they are very good. The batched KC18 is pretty consistent with that sweet oak smell and taste.

What’s open on your bar? 2024-???

That make sense. Very cool that you have been doing so many barrel picks.
  18. Still pouring from that bottle of OGD 114. Low-fill now, so I may as well kill it off. Maybe not today; but, next time I pour for sure. Prolly only about 3-decent pours left... or maybe two big-uns. Lovely Bourbon!

With the exception of the BiB, the 1792 always drinks a little hot to me, regardless of the type. Somehow, they seem to drink hotter than their proof. If I see another BiB, if it's reasonably priced, I'll buy it.

    Cocktail Hour - 2025

MGP rye Old Fashioned at home while watching some "rivalry weekend" baseball (Astros vs Rangers). This Indiana rye is from Smoke Wagon BiB rye that I bought 2 years ago during a momentary lapse of reason (its not bad but at $60 was way too expensive for what it is). No harm/no foul ... it's MGP rye so is very versatile and will be consumed one way or another, but mostly in cocktails.

What’s open on your bar? 2024-???

I too think warehouse K produces some fantastic OFBSSB. I have only had 1 from I, but it was great as well. I never pass on a warehouse K if I come across one.
  22. I recently had the opportunity to try both the KC 18 and the EC 18, not blind or side by side but, a pour of the EC following a pour of the KC. The KC was oaky but with delicious sweet oak. The EC was oaky but with an astringent finish that I did not like at all.
  23. I have the Full Proof, Single Barrell Store Pick from Specs and Small Batch. They're okay. I would not run out and replace the Small Batch or Single Barrell. I would probably replace the Full Proof and Bottled in Bond
  24. I really enjoy Dickel white label (was #12, is it called Signature, now?). But, I picked up the local Total Wine’s selection of the 80 proof 15 year, and hated it. It was atrocious. I think the selectors were simply looking for the driest and woodiest of woody notes as possible, during their selection process, and nothing else. Obviously though, some very nice bottles exist, as testified to, here.
