Empty Bottle Support Group 2025

it's Cinco de Mayo and tequila with homade fajitas was on my menu to night. It's not bourbon, but it did spend some time in a bourbon barrel. -
What bourbon did you purchase this spring season of 2025?
Kepler replied to MSB's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
I have one opened and for me, the barrel influence might be a tad on the heavy side. I'm a big fan of New Riff, but something about their aging process makes them very "wood-forward" ... at 8 years old they might be reaching their limit of maximum age. Just my 2 cents, YMMV.... - Today

Yep, the OESO is the favorite recipe of the new taters. It's a very sweet profile that reminds them of all things Buffalo Trace. -

So I am at the bar again and wanted to do a blind sbs with The 70th and 8yr. For whatever reason the 8yr is in hiding and was not available tonight. So I decided to do a blind sbs with the 70th and WTKS. for some reason i am unable to upload the pic of the pours. No biggie. please forgive me for my basic interpretation of the tasting i have done. Palate taste review only. A. I get floral notes. Buttery notes. A cross between red and white fruit. Smooth oily texture and a long finish. No to very lil ethanol burn. B. No to lil ethanol burn. Maybe some apple flavor. Buttery. Some flavors that came and went that were very delicious. Wish i could grasp and verbalize those. Smooth and oily long finish. Both were very good to great pours. I chose correctly on which was which, but could I do that again, idk??. I would be happy with either one of these pours on any given day. I really enjoyed them. I would go with B. And B is the WTKS. SO much going on in every sip. All the extra nuances in it make it very good and complex to differentiate the flavors going on in this pour. This is a pour to sit and sip and savor. -

it was several months ago when they started showing up all at once. The OESO seemed to fly off of shelves, while the OESK stuck around a little longer, and then these OBSF bottles don't seem to be as popular and i still see one or two show up on occasion. -
Sometimes it's worth it for the experience. As much as I complain about overpriced bourbons, I purchase them myself often just out of curiosity. You only live once.

Old Forester King Ranch

It's not a bad bourbon. That said, at $90 it's a bit high. I got it for $80. Still too high, but I was intrigued. -

So many Leine varieties that I have enjoyed. My favorite craft beer, before Miller bought them anyhow. -

I took a ribeye and made some steak fajitas and elote for Cinco de Mayo and my wife’s birthday. I was sipping on some MMCS while the steak, veggies and corn grilled. -
Depends on the wood used to smoke the drink. In a restaurant or bar it is more about the presentation.
-
I should try it. Like a peated scotch?
-
No apologies necessary. I'm not too interested to try it

It’s does add an interesting dynamic to an old fashioned

I swear that someone here posted about this recently, but I can’t find it. But I did find this older thread talking about it. https://www.straightbourbon.com/community/search/?q=Linie &quick=1

Interesting. I've never even ordered a smoked cocktail before in a bar. I used to see a bunch of bourbon fans ordering their Old Fashioneds smoked this way. Just curious... what's the appeal?

"a cinnamon finish and seems more playful" Playful .... care to elaborate? Sounds like the finish on the WT8 kinda just draws you in for another pour? -
Never heard of it. Made from potatoes... Irish or Russian whiskey? Sorry, that was uncalled for. Sounds interesting nonetheless. Let us know if you open it up and how it tastes.

I once toured their brewery in Chippewa Falls back in the early 2000s when I was working in St. Paul which is about an hour and half drive away. It was great. I became a Leinie fan after that for a few years but I've drifted away from them over time. They seemed to have changed a lot and gone a bit "corporate" compared to how they were when I was there (no surprise, ...as with everything else these days). I'm not even sure that it's still made in Chippewa Falls anymore but I hope so? Their standard original was my favorite back then. -
All this EH Taylor talk has reminded me that I didn't have a bottle of the regular Small Batch open. And to my point in another thread regarding price, I paid $33.99 for this bottle in 2018. This one tastes like what it is: an elevated tasting experience over the regular BT bourbon and bottled at 100 proof. The flavor still shows that familiar tie to the great Old Charters of yesteryear. An excellent example of a true classic bourbon. Cheers!

I want to say that the first release of King Ranch was selling for $65 to 75. But when the second wave of it hit the market a few months later the price shot up to $85 to 90. I never bought a bottle because of the price.

let us know how this one is. I have the single barrel and enjoyed it. This looks great. -
Since we know it will be 100 proof, the million dollar question is: What's the age going to be? They already have Eagle Rare with the same mashbill boasting 101 proof at 17 years. So I'm gonna guess 10-12 years for the CEHT in order to differentiate it.
