  2. Isn’t that the truth! . 6 degrees of Separation will soon be 5, 4,….!
  3. On my trip to Alaska, I found a bar that had the Woodford Reserve Baccarat edition. All excited to try it as I am not likely to plunk down $2000 on a bottle, at least not that bottle As quick as my excitement grew, my disappointment grew faster as they could not sell it as it was not entered into their system. Sigh… For whatever it’s worth, most who have tried it have told me it’s not the best bourbon I will ever sample so maybe I just saved myself some money?
  4. Just an illustration for how connected the world is. My uncles left Chicago for Northern California and landed in Pinole. I bet he heard of this bourbon. Sadly, I won’t get to ask him as he left us far too soon. At the same time, I had many lunches at the Berghoff downtown. Always had great Wiener schnitzel

What Beer Are You Drinking In 2025

I just wrapped up my Alaskan trip. What not a better way to conclude than with a nice Guinness?
  7. On my final day in the Pacific Northwest I stopped at Twa Dogs distillery. If you’re a fan of Irish whisky or scotch whisky, you are likely to enjoy this.
  8. It's Orloso and something else cask finished. I usually dont trust cask finishing, because (and maybe I'm paranoid) it can be a red flag the underlying distillate wasn't that good and the cask finish is an attempt to mask or change a dissapointing original outcome. Should've stuck with my gut of avoiding these types of offerings.
  9. Jay Vee is still in El Cerrito. May have had multiple locations in the 70s and 80s and possibly still. Haven’t been inside in years.
  10. This past week, I have tried more than a few scotches. I have concluded my palette just isn’t ready for them. Or maybe it is just that I am used to bourbon and American whiskey. Today I will be on a Canadian whiskey tasting tour. It will be interesting to see how I feel about Canadian which I have not sampled in decades now.

I know, right? Had I known how good it is, I would've cleared the shelf and not been so generous with it at one of our tailgates!

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Summer 2025?

I just ordered one which will hopefully arrive on Friday. I am looking forward to this one. Now if I could find the port finished variety for a good price, that would be great but I don’t think that’s likely
  13. Good to know. I usually prefer CS bottles. Different finish or supposedly the same Oban but CS?
  14. My post should have read "I'm not usually a fan of FINISHED bourbons." Guess I need to remember to put my readers on when posting.
  15. Typed too fast in post above and guess I didn't notice when posting, but my post should have read "I'm not usually a fan of FINISHED bourbons." Bourbon and Scotch are my favorite spirits, but will also enjoy a rye or an Irish Whiskey on occasion.

What Bourbon Did You Purchase Summer 2025?

1792 Full Proof in a different bottle? The 1792 FP's I've had have all been very nice pours, so it's reasonable to expect the same from Flatboat, I think. Good Luck with it. Let us know how it compares with FP if you get a chance.
  17. Interesting. I have not had that btl but, I would like to know what spirits you are a fan of. ??? Your bourbon recommendations are solid! Just sayin.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Summer 2025?

Very nice, dark cherries, cinnamon, vanilla, tabacco, and licorice. The heat disapate's pretty quickly, never really notice this before in any other bourbon, lol Elijah Craig (11 Yr. Old) Barrel Proof 1789 (Batch A124) (119 Proof)
  19. Picked this one up a few weeks ago and while I’m not usually a fan of bourbons, I am enjoying this one!

I'm jealous. I love Pliny. But I so rarely can get my hands on it. Enjoy!

    Great deal!
  22. I saw a video review of that one that gave it a lukewarm review so I have steered clear of it. Your feedback seems to reinforce that. Hopefully some air time will improve it for you.
  23. Flatboad 125 proof. This was in a blind tasting on the YouTube channel It's Bourbon Night (v.2.0 post Sara) where it beat out EHT Barrel Proof 2021 release 127.3 proof. Needless to say, I was intrigued. According to them it's Barton distillate and Flatboat is a store brand for the Liquor Barn chain in Kentucky. However, I recently saw this was in stock at several Bay Area BevMo stores for $55, so I had to try it. I was going to just get one bottle but I had a $20 off $100 coupon so, since I can never resist a bargain, I got two. I'll crack one tonight and report back in a couple of days. Fingers crossed it's as good as they said it is. There must be some connection between Liquor Barn and BevMo since they're sharing this store brand. The BevMo chain started out as Liquor Barn here in the Bay Area and later changed it's name.

Amen! Not too many pheasant where I hunt....
  25. I’ll add a ditch parrot (aka pheasant), some quail and an occasional partridge to the party with my best springer spaniel at my side Top it all off with a splash of Wild Turkey sauce after the hunt and you have a slice of heaven :}

What Beer Are You Drinking In 2025

This is both a what did you purchase and what are you drinking post. My brother and sister in law were in town last week through the weekend and she's an IPA drinker. Since I didn't have any on hand we went to this little postage stamp of a storefront near me that sells beer. The entirety of the store is four coolers and a small counter with a number of taps if you want to hang out a drink a draft. They only sell single cans/bottles so you can make your own mixed six packs which is a great way to try new things. Imagine my surprise when I saw Pliny the Elder sitting there. I knew that they had started to distribute up here again last year after a long hiatus but I still had never seen one. Better yet there was no limit. I bought six and did leave some. (No guilt because the girl behind the counter told me they had already sold through most of what they got). My sister in law was trying it for the first time and she was very very pleased.
