    Starting my blind tasting journal

It looks like I'm not coming down with covid or anything after those tastings, so I'll go ahead and share my notes from last night too... First sample was really weak on the nose with a tiny bit of rye spice. I got a slight floral note but it was fleeting. There was a lot of heat with a faint suggestions of rye. A little sweet. Overall though it was overpowering peppery and char. The finish was simply bad. Just burnt peppery char. 35 / 90 The second sample had a decent nose with some sweet vanilla and strawberry fruitiness. It wasn't strong and had a brown-formam vibe to it. The pallete simply didn't exist. There was some grain and some sweet but generically so. Lots of char. It was very thin too. "Its like gentleman jack fell on hard times and had to sell off his nice stuff". The finish was actually nothing. 30 / 90

Nose was caramel and a generic bourbon spice.moderate slight ethanol. Average. Taste was definitely young and sweet. Lots of grain and nuttiness, but not in a Beam sort of way. The body was actually fairly thick and pleasant Finish was sweet again. This was sort of one-note overall, but it played it well. 43 / 90

Nose was nice but pretty weak. Vanilla strawberry. Not super unique but a little Palette was pretty bold with lots of fairly basic fruity sweetness with an interesting fresh suede sort of oak/char influence. Finish was sweet. Moderately long with some strawberry again. 61 / 90
  5. Underrated post right here.
  6. No I haven't. I've had several of their different mashbill single barrels, but not that one. Some of their stuff is too far out there for me and this would fall into that category for me.
  7. Or an abbreviation of that, ... the S'mores?
  8. Happy Belated Birthday @Richnimrod. I somehow missed it. I hope you had a great one!

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

I just cashed in a share of Apple stock from 1996 and bought a bottle of...er, no, a new house. jk
  10. I resemble that remark. This one has my vote!
  11. The banjo music is kind of distracting.
  12. I see a lot of hotness in those pictures. Obviousl, I am talking about the whiskey not the people.

What rye are you drinking or purchased 2024

All the cool kids drink it!
  14. Don't you know we are just a bunch of enablers on here!?!
  15. Your post made me want to stop drinking for the night. Fortunately, I was already done. I had a few + pours of WT101. A different bottle than the one I enamored with the other night. This one was just as sweet with a hint of mesquite. Stellar. This bottle is better than some $80 bottles that I have had but was only $25.
  16. Y’all quit pressuring me into getting a Sagamore, danggummit. I am weak!
  17. We need a cool nickname for those of us on SB that are Sagamore fans. BT fans have their Herd, 4R fans have the Cult, WT fans have the Flock. What are Sagamore rye fans? "The Sags" just doesn't do it for me, lol.
  18. I had a beer after finishing the lawn work, and it seemed to really hit the spot. Didn't have any more beer on hand though, so I poured a generous dram of PH Heavy Char, 120-pr., 10-year into a glencairn. Lovely! But, was plenty for my headbone. Got a little tipsy before I got very far into it, so I slowed down and made it last for over an hour. For whatever reason, I could barely keep my eyeballs open so I decided that was enough for the day.
  19. Looks like it's a Sagamore fRYEday. I'm having Sagamore Sherry finish myself. Great stuff.

Started off with a Doozie! Nose was not strong and had a slight Slight ethanol burn. There was a lot going on though. Funky dark cherry with some cinnamon and oak present as a musty leather. The taste was quite strong and it coated my mouth like few low proof bourbon ever does! Excellent mouthfeel. Lots of depth of flavor with a sweet dark fruit and honey.the cinnamon burn isn't my thing, but it was more complex here. Notes of leather and a funk reminiscent of Buffalo Trace. The finish wasn't the shining point for this. It lasted, but the cinnamon built up and a slight sour note lingered on the roof of my mouth. Otherwise, it had some nice notes of strawberry preserves and musty leather. 72 / 90 Although I have to admit this isn't really my favorite set of tasting notes, and others would score this higher.
