What Bourbon Are You Drinking Summer 2025?

I took some BT in a small flask, tossed it in a cooler. I took a few small pulls from it at the party and we just got home. I didn't feel like pouring it back in the bottle, so I emptied it into glass. I haven’t had chilled BT in a long time. It's pretty damn good...

    What’s on the menu????

I burned some steaks on the grill for the fam. Had those with some grilled "little potatoes" slathered with butter, and some dill pickles. Pours all around of whichever was preferred. We played some Euchre afterward. All enjoyed the afternoon/evening. Happy Independence Day!!!

Finished off another "sample bottle"; Col. EH Taylor 4-Grain from about 5 or 6-years ago. Not a particularly complex pour; but, a nice one nonetheless.

    Bourbon MEME's

  7. They are a little pricey, but I have paid more for whiskey I liked a lot less (unfortunately). I usually prefer wheated bourbons, but I didn't love the HH GTG Wheated. I am not big on ryes, but this HH GTG rye is very drinkable, at least for my palate, but the GTG traditional bourbon (blue and white label) is by far my favorite of the 3 and probably the only 1 I would buy again.

  9. I agree 100% they're doing many things right over there. Love what they have to offer.

    What’s on the menu????

The good news is that it’s Hot Dogs tonight for Independence Day…as it should be. Better news is that I made Chicago style, and they are really good. BEST NEWS, is that I learned just today, that a Portillo’s is coming here soon, and will be only a 15 minute drive from my house. Livin’ large just East of the Big Chicken!!

haven't had much bourbon this summer for no specific reason, but broke out some freedom bird for the 4th while dinner is one the grill.

    Thomas H. Moore "extended finishing"

Thanks and Happy Fourth! I like the merlot cask well enough to try another for $45. Maybe the port cask. I've tried a few of those over the years and port finishing seem to work well with bourbon. Maybe the cab cask - I recall a good bottle called Straight Edge that was finished in Dave Phinney cabernet barrels.

    Cocktail Hour - 2025

Sittin’ out front in the shade with Mrssmokinjoe, and a Mellow Corn Bloody Mary with Basil and Bacon just screamed for me!!

What Bourbon Did You Purchase Summer 2025?

What goes better with our nation’s birthday than Jack Daniel’s and Budweiser?
  15. I have only had the wheated so far. I am a fan. I'm definitely a fan. $100 seems like a very reasonable price for it.

I saw these early on. It passed on them. Perhaps I errored as most everyone I talk to really enjoy them

    Thomas H. Moore "extended finishing"

I remember then the Moore series was first released. Bought the first 3. Not sure where it went from there, but if there is still a Chardonnay Cask, avoid at all costs. I chose to ignore after that bottle...

No picture, just an empty bottle of KCSB L&K Pick. It was very tasty.

What Beer Are You Drinking In 2025

Very nice interpretation of a Lemon Summer Shandy. Perfect for a Hot Independence Day Eve. What I like about this beer, is that the lemon notes are very lemon-ey, and just not citrus bitterness. I’ll enjoy this over the next 3 days, for sure.
  21. Drowned Lands in NY makes impressive beers. Double bock 8% ABV. More octane than I typically like in my beers. Not your typical summer choice but enjoyable nonetheless.

Two more for the bin. The KC PS is a staple of course. I think I have another bottle from this same barrel, but for the sake of variety my next KC SiB to open will be a different pick. The Holladay BiB wheater won't be replaced. Four or five times I came close to making it a drain pour, but ultimately I soldiered on with it. That's because it doesn't taste *bad* per se, ... just a one-note boring cinnamon flavor. Henceforth, this is the bottle I will picture whenever I hear scotch drinkers complain that bourbon is just boring, one dimensional and too sweet. Glad it's gone. I'm holding my breath that the other Holladay bottle in my bunker (the rickhouse proof rye recipe bourbon) will be much better.

I'm cleaning out all my low fill bottles, trying to make more room. These were the "wood finishing series" from 2022. I preferred the 02 over the 01, but both were very good. At $60 back then they were a good 15 bucks cheaper than the MM CS store picks at the time, so they were always an auto buy for me. I have other Wood Finishing series left in the bunker but I don't think I have anymore of these BRTs.
  26. My first glass of Bomberger's Declaration 2025. My first glass of any Bomberger's in some years tbh. Just opened a short while ago, so it may need some air. It is very good no doubt, but I am wondering if it is actually meeting the buzz it seems to be getting. Any thoughts on this? My impression is that it is somewhere between a Russel's Reserve Single Barrel, and Bookers. It has a touch of that medicinal cherry note that I like in Russel's, but also a bit of the peanut notes I get from Bookers. Definitely highlights charred oak, with some vanilla, and a great deal of spice.
