BT to add EH Taylor product to BTAC line

Not sure there is so much a "fundamental" difference today. Over the years, some have had 'alternative' mashbills. Some have been aged longer, some have been chosen for some different profile(s), or have been batched from barrels sought in rickhouses/area of rickhouses different than others. At least currently, the "#2" mashbill (higher rye) is used for Blanton's (AFAIK) and that one is a single barrel offering. ...And, of course proofs have varied from brand to brand and with editions/years of release. ...Not to mention rarity/price. One could write an entire book about the offerings from this distiller if one wished to delve into the histories, including the wheaters of the Weller Family and the Van Winkle line.

BT to add EH Taylor product to BTAC line

To that end, and forgive me if that has been discussed elsewhere, but what is the fundamental difference between the various bourbons from Buffalo Trace? EH Taylor, George T Stagg, Stagg Jr, EH Taylor, Eagle Rare, etc.
  7. I don't mind paying up to $200 a bottle if it's a worthy bottle. That said, the thing that holds me back on Old Elk is my perception that while some of the varieties are good, at their prices, I can get equally good or better bourbons at a lesser price.

    Empty Bottle Support Group 2025

Most of the peerless offerings are unicorns in my parts. Wish that was not the case as I hear great things about them

    Empty Bottle Support Group 2025

I really enjoyed this bottle. Think they did a great job keeping this balanced.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

I bought one recently for $52.99, or thereabouts and, after tasting it, I understand why it costs a little more. I like it a lot better than the CS.
  11. Purchased today and drinking tonight. Got it on sale for 10$ off, so why not. Iam not sure I would pay more than the sale price of it. But I do enjoy it.

  13. This evening is a favorite value pour: OGD 114. This might be the definitive value pour availabe right now.
  14. With all of the praise for the Still Austin products, I bought a cask strength bourbon today from Total Wine. Not a big fan of TW, but they have the best selection of Still Austin in Indianapolis. Cheers
  15. Before we bought our current home, we were looking at another property, making an offer. When it came time for disclosure, it turns out there was a an old underground fuel oil tank on the property. (There are potentially serious environmental issues with these, and the property owner is liable.) The seller claimed "it's ok". (They had tried to keep it a secret as long as possible.) I said, can you provide me with any paperwork that indicates that? No answer, but assured me it's ok. I came back with a real low ball offer, and said offer could go up with proof it's really ok. Real estate agent came back from seller and looked like she saw a ghost, suggested we move on to other properties.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

The B.I.B. they make themselves. The other Bourbon they have is sourced from one or more of the big distillers in KY. Bulleit Rye is from MGP in IN.

Old Elk Four Grain Private Blend - Loch & K(e)y - The Center Cut

Agreed. I have quite a few wheated bourbons as well as some nice wheat whiskeys. Dry Fly makes a nice cask strength wheat whiskey, or at least they used to. I have a 375ml of the straight wheat whiskey as well as one that is finished in PX casks. Really nice stuff. To answer your question, what does reasonably priced mean? I think it was fair for a whiskey that age and with those finishes and blend. Cigar cuts go for $100-$200 usually and I consider this in the same vein. It was $125 and in Massachusetts, where there is no liquor tax.
  18. Just back from a quick biz trip, and going with Early Times BIB. Going through this bottle and the previous ET BIB rather quickly. It’s like WT 101 is to me, in that it has a lane it races in, and it just creams it. Not similar in taste to WT, but it’s similar in where it fits in my “what won’t fail me right now” category.

    Bourbon in the Movies

More high end shots, this time in Sons of Anarchy. Poor quality photo since streaming services apparently don't allow screenshots anymore.

  21. Some PVW15 in the glass tonight. They came down 6k as soon as we started talking. We are getting with our banker trying to make this work without trashing a retirement fund and getting killed on taxes. Once we sell the existing, we will pay off the new one and have a nice profit left over. They are not going to like our offer but see where they go. Lots of contingencies, for them to address. If all goes well, tomorrow we begin negotiations.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

I passed on the Bulleit bib recently too. It was $54.99 and the Bulleit cask strength was $49.99. I did get the cask strength. I don't know why the bib was cheaper.
  23. Here, here. A trusty stand by indeed. Great value for what you get at that price.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

MM 101 in the glass last night.
  25. It is amazingly better. It was surprising to me what a difference ten proof points (and perhaps some barrel picking) made. I like the SFTB even more.
