What rye are you drinking or purchased 2025
rzelinka replied to Mattk's topic in American Rye Whiskey
I suspect you are right on in your assessment. I disliked the Bonded Rye, and while a Single Barrel will take on a different flavor profile, I would submit the mash bill is essentially the same. To your point that means it will be very rye forward. If that is the case, it would only be doable for me in an old fashioned or Manhattan. I'll keep an open mind. -
While I do recommend this bottle and have owned several, it is quite rye forward. Brown forman does use a yeast that ranges from banana bread to sweet tarts, which may compliment/ mask the heavy rye influence. But don't be fooled the sib rye is very rye.

Tonight is carne asada fajitas with rice and beans. I'm having another saos rye tonight while cooking. Seems all I can get to these days is whatever bottle lives on the counter top. Did anyone see that Mike veach is doing a release? I hear it's coming out near me at jack rose. Anyways cheers, and hope you all had a nice weekend.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?
fishnbowljoe replied to smokinjoe's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
That WLW is from 2021. That’s the last year I was able to purchase one. For a number of years prior to that, I was lucky to have had my name drawn in a lottery every other year. Always picked the WLW. That streak ended in 2023. Been drawing a blank every since. It’s all good though. I’ve had my fair share of WLW’s over the years. I still have one left in my bunker. It’s my favorite. The 2007 bottling at 117.9 proof. -

Lagavulin 11 year...Ron Offerman edition... -
I have to admit, I am excited to try this. Thanks for.posting the link.

Picked the barrels in 2012. Bottled and delivered in 2013. As for taste, it’s very rich. Heavy, even. It handled the 15 years well, and isn’t overboard on the oak.

Now if only we can find it at MSRP. Eagle Rare 10 year is getting closer to MSRP in my parts. Can't find Eagle Rare 17 even with a search warrant
-
Like the MSRP and the higher proof
-
Intended to be a permanent addition and released at regular intervals. 95 proof, msrp of $50. https://www.foodandwine.com/buffalo-trace-eagle-rare-12-11750242

All this WT talk, I went back and bought one even tho I’m in week 1 of 8 weeks dry. Also snagged some NA beers I have very little will power
-
That is great and what i would call a happy ending. I wad trying to find info in the archives and it appears that pick was at least 9yrs ago? How does the 15yr EC BP taste?
-
Indeed, GBS is for Georgia Bourbon Society. Our first barrel selection was for the standard EC12, and we kinda lucked into getting the second one at barrel proof. We called it the “Amnesia Barrel”, since it took so long to get it bottled, we almost forgot we had it!! It should have been 14 years old, but since it took a year to get bottled, it ended up being 15 yo.

I too have not met a Weller I did not like. This one is on my bucket list, but at the current market prices, it will be a hard find. -

As I was finishing up my chat with Elmer last night, it was suggested that I might want to go have a talk with Bill. (No, Not Samuels) Who was I to argue? -
What Beer Are You Drinking In 2025

Ha! I’m lucky that all of my magnolias are on the perimeter of my yard, which I have in a natural state, as it is up against the main road and 2 fences. So the leaves primarily fall on the pinestraw. The big one, though, does throw some l leaves on my back yard grass…. All of the magnolias back there are “Wild”, as I didn’t plant them. They just popped up. I’m guessing that they came from my neighbor behind me, as he has 2 massive ones in his front yard, which is just beyond my back yard. The big one on my yard started as a 6”high stick on the ground with 1 leaf. She’s now over 40’, and very beautiful. -
I have no idea what they’re trying to accomplish with all these products. And I don’t see them sku ratting the 81 or 101. But I do think the differentiation from the NAS version could come over time. Even quickly. It reminds me of searching for the LL laser code a few years ago. When it was rumored(and tasted like) the juice was much older when they launched Longbranch.
-
I agree the price per year is reasonable, but agree with what was pointed out up thread, there needs to be more differentiation from the NAS version. A 12 year age statement would accomplish that for sure. Then just get rid of the 8 and let it turn into 12. I’d also like to see some special release ultra aged 101, like 14, 16 and 18. That would be fun, but unattainable
-
Thank you for your clarification of your opinion. As long as the liquid inside is good , I can do without the age statement but admittedly I do enjoy and would welcome full transparency from the distilleries. And as long as there is not an overly inflated price tag for having that info on the label.
-
That’s interesting. I love the Japanese 12. That’s a curious decision to also open that product to the US market.
-
Lol. If anyone gets punished, it should be me.
