Indeed, GBS is for Georgia Bourbon Society. Our first barrel selection was for the standard EC12, and we kinda lucked into getting the second one at barrel proof. We called it the “Amnesia Barrel”, since it took so long to get it bottled, we almost forgot we had it!! It should have been 14 years old, but since it took a year to get bottled, it ended up being 15 yo.

I too have not met a Weller I did not like. This one is on my bucket list, but at the current market prices, it will be a hard find.

Ha! I’m lucky that all of my magnolias are on the perimeter of my yard, which I have in a natural state, as it is up against the main road and 2 fences. So the leaves primarily fall on the pinestraw. The big one, though, does throw some l leaves on my back yard grass…. All of the magnolias back there are “Wild”, as I didn’t plant them. They just popped up. I’m guessing that they came from my neighbor behind me, as he has 2 massive ones in his front yard, which is just beyond my back yard. The big one on my yard started as a 6”high stick on the ground with 1 leaf. She’s now over 40’, and very beautiful.

I have no idea what they’re trying to accomplish with all these products. And I don’t see them sku ratting the 81 or 101. But I do think the differentiation from the NAS version could come over time. Even quickly. It reminds me of searching for the LL laser code a few years ago. When it was rumored(and tasted like) the juice was much older when they launched Longbranch.

I agree the price per year is reasonable, but agree with what was pointed out up thread, there needs to be more differentiation from the NAS version. A 12 year age statement would accomplish that for sure. Then just get rid of the 8 and let it turn into 12. I’d also like to see some special release ultra aged 101, like 14, 16 and 18. That would be fun, but unattainable

Thank you for your clarification of your opinion. As long as the liquid inside is good , I can do without the age statement but admittedly I do enjoy and would welcome full transparency from the distilleries. And as long as there is not an overly inflated price tag for having that info on the label.

That’s interesting. I love the Japanese 12. That’s a curious decision to also open that product to the US market.

Be sure to try the SiB BP rye. It is one of my favorite whiskeys. They are around the 130pf but drink more like a 110ish pf. IMO

I agree. I first noted this years ago in Japan. It was back in a day where I wasn't terribly interested in whiskey, bourbon. Happy to see it is coming our way.

Seeing this thread prompted me to revisit my trusty Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond. At the price point, it's a really good pour.

I did try the Jack Daniel's Single Malt last night at a tasting. I did not care for it. Will try another and see if I feel differently

I've been on the lookout for this one to complete my trifecta of single barrel offerings from Old Forester. The barrel strengths are very good at a very affordable price point.

I participated in a Jack Daniels tasting last night that highlighted their Bonded Series. I was able to try their Bonded Rye which was great as I've been warming to ryes as of late. Historically my rye consumption was often limited to Old Fashioned and Manhattans, largely because the piney and peppery notes didn't sit with me. After the recommendations of many of you (thank you), I finally found a rye that was enjoyable on its own from Sagamore (double oaked). The Jack Daniels Bonded Rye took me right back to my prior sentiments about ryes. The peppery finish was just too overpowering for me on its own. I'll look for their single barrel offering to sample and see if I come away with the same impressions.

Im intrigued. Does anyone know if the Calumets are the same mash bill as 1792 (if they are indeed Barton products)? I tend to get a lot of ethanol off 1792 products, especially the Full Proof, but I didn't get any of that with the older Calumet releases. Im guessing if they are the same mash bill, that the age helped with the ethanol smell and taste I usually picked up in the Full Proof, but they could be totally different mash bills too.

Yesterday was WT 101 8year, KC9 and Bulliet BiB. While watching tennis. Right now Alcaraz and Sinner!!

Nice and, damn! You might have to rent a storage locker after you move. I rarely see the BiB around here and hope to find a replacement.

Haven't had the 12 year but LOVE the BiB and FP. Good job!!!
