Two more for the bin. The HW is a bourbon finished in Madeira casks. it was okay. I've already bought a replacement bottle for the New Riff 6 yr Malted rye because I really liked it. I can't decide if I like this one or the similar Chattanooga 99 malted rye more. They are both very good.

I'm not very big fan of either the regular WRDO or 1910. I can't imagine liking the Double Double Oak. I did recently purchase the OF gift pack of 375 mL bottles so I'll be giving 1910 another go eventually to see if it can change my mind.
  4. I liked it, too. But, at 8 years, I didn’t think it was that significantly better than the initial 4 year release. Perhaps, they need to push around with it.

  6. Initial thought, I like it. But with similar age and mash bill, I prefer the new 4R SIB OESK 100 proof. My next buy will be Bulliett BIB. It's been probably 10 or so years since I bought a Bulliett bottle, but everyone has been speaking pretty glowingly about that one.
  7. A good man to hang with, for sure.

I had the same experience with OF 1910.
  10. Started with an EW SiB freezer pour. I don't think I'll repeat the freezer with this one. Good, but not really a hit... Just finished smoking a cigar outside in the heat; why; because I'm cool - or - maybe because Mrs. Redd doesn't let me smoke inside. Most likely the latter! Funny how after spending the last 3 days at 90 degrees, 84 is quite pleasant. Anyway, I smoked with a friend...
  11. I don't think that you will be disappointed.
  12. RR13 in a 2 oz in the Atlanta Delta lounge. Much better than what they serve here.
  13. finally decided to pick one of these up after passing it up for other options the past few months.

I tried the WR Double Double Oaked at a bourbon tasting and it was so cloying that I couldn't finish it.
  15. I revisited the Killowen over the weekend. I got more of the sugary rum notes on the start and then it transitioned into more dark PX notes. I liked it better this time. I raised my score to a solid 8.

    Coming of Age

Most of the Old Elk varieties I see are significantly higher than $50-$60. Most are between $80-$100 and in one case one is $140. I would submit as $50, it’s appropriately priced. Not at $80.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

Second pour of the evening, E H Taylor SmB.
  18. How awesome. I’m still waiting for a hot and humid day here. It’s coming, no doubt about it
  19. I just learned there’s also a 12 year. Anyone tried this?
  20. Conventional wisdom is to wait for Memorial Day weekend to plant your garden, and as the true beginning of summer. I disagree. The first SB member's photo of a frosty bottle of Yellow Label in a back yard is the true indicator. Thank you for the affirmation.

  24. Thanks for the positive feedback on blending down the fp. I wish i could have had the 8yr RR for 22$. And the rye as well. I will have to take your word on those.
  25. Sagamore Bottled in Bond in my glass now.
  26. Yes, definitely blend the Full Proof with any well-aged Barton's bourbon to tone it down. You can thank me later. I have tried all the 1792 bottles they've released. I can just say I liked the brand a lot better when they only had an 8 year age stated Ridgemont Reserve bottle for 22 bucks. Of their current available offerings, IMHO only the beige neck bank "Single Barrel," the yellow Bonded, and the basement priced Small Batch are worth purchasing at regular MSRP. Yes the Full Proof is a flavor bomb but it's kinda hot and doesn't provide anything better flavor-wise than the SiB or Bonded. Too many people are blinded by high proof. The High Rye was probably my favorite, but from what I've heard, it's been discontinued... (until they lay down more barrels anyway)
