What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

Passed on CEHT Small Batch on the shelf at Total Wine yesterday for $65. Just while I was in the bourbon aisle, there were 2 or 3 guys that picked it up at that elevated price. I can't imagine paying $65 for non-age stated BT bourbon when regular NAS BT (with the same mash bill) is sitting right next to it for $25 with no limit. That yellow cardboard tube must really cast a spell over those taters

  10. Good to know sir. I was drinking Ten High and coke back then. Not good for anyone. Kept me from brown water for a long time.
  11. Thank you. Wish I had a better set up and knowledge to use it properly. Lol Just my phone. My vision is well intended.

    What’s on the menu????

    Bananas Foster for dessert.

    What’s on the menu????

I like a good chicken-fried steak & eggs on occasion, but generally I agree that a pork chop & eggs will fill the bill even better most of the time. I prefer pork as a breakfast/brunch meat usually.

  16. Prime Dry-aged Sirloin Strip cooked Pittsburgh rare on the Napoleon infrared burner with a wee dram of Booker's 2024 "The Reserves" (shared by @Anwalt in Bardstown). A great "Derby Day" dinner! Typical European style, Caesar Salad followed closely behind (HONEST!!!)

    What’s on the menu????

Pork chops with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. The Julep was just out of view .

    Happy Derby Day 2025

Great Derby Day! 10 of us pooled $50/each on a bottle. Drew numbers last night and picked horses today. I had pick #4. 2 and 3 picked my choices so I went with Sovereignty I bet the birthday, the trainer and the horse loves the CD track. Great luck and I will post picks when I get the prize. Juleps in the glass, going to be a PVW15 for the evening celebration!
  19. Interesting close-up photos. Great color on both of those!
  20. Interesting how that works! I'm totally out, but regular old EC is the same for me, outside...

    Cocktail Hour! - 2024

    Mint julep, of course.
  24. Great lineup. My personal favorite grilling/smoker bourbon is Baker's Small Batch. I can't explain it but my taste buds just crave it when cooking outside.
  25. Paducah used to have a great liquor store there that did fantastic single barrel picks. Unfortunately they are no longer there. I guess all good things must come to an end eventually, as they say.
  26. What to do while baby backs are on the smoker? 1st - JB Winter Reserve (from the freezer) 2nd - KC12 (always an upgrade from the bottom shelf) 3rd - OGD 16 ( a step up today - sweet oak)

    BOTM 05/2025 Old Forester Rye

Funny coincidence --I just came to the forums to post about enjoying some OF Rye while watching the Old Forester Bourbon Classic (sadly I have no OF bourbon on hand at this time). The first thing I see is this thoughtful and spot-on review. I love reading these tasting notes and trying to to suss out some of the sensory experiences you more knowledgeable folks have pointed out. I get black pepper in abundance, balanced with what I would describe as a soft, buttery sweetness. Mint overrides most other notes in the finish, along with an anisette, which I find to be present to one degree or another in most ryes. My latest crush in bourbon is OGD 114, and OF Rye, to my palate, is an almost absolute polar opposite. And that, as Martha Stewart would say, is a good thing.
