  1. Past hour
  2. This is fantastic stuff. It's a Frankenstein's blend of Tumbling Dice (high rye MGP), 6-year cask strength Clyde May, Driftless Glen and Russell's Reserve Rye (6-year) . It's just about the best stuff on the bar and it's gone to the point I need to add something to it. But I don't want to monkey with it just yet - it's that good .

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

No shortage of BT here. Cases of the stuff...1l bottles $26.00...
  4. That's good at least working on Edge. I believe some of the default pop-up suppression settings in Firefox are more restrictive than Edge too. Not sure but you could check that as well.
  5. Whenever I’ve had issues, I was told the first thing you should try is emptying your cache. Not saying you should, not saying you shouldn’t. Just passing this along.

  7. Still having the same problems today. I think it's a Firefox issue. I'm viewing it now on Edge.

  9. Frankly, I think ten recipes is too many to keep track of. Doubling that will appeal to the "gotta collect 'em all" crowd, most likely.

    OGD 16yr

First time I've heard of it. Interesting. Beam has a lot of well aged stock (a lot of stock period) so I'm not very surprised.

    OGD 16yr

I was shocked, SHOCKED! the see the TTB filing for a 16 yr OGD. I guess with the recent interest Beam has afforded Old Overholt it shouldn’t be that surprising but to me it was, I figured the BH label was where they pointed all the tarted up OGD. I am delighted they may finally pay some more attention to this historic brand. The periodic “demise of 114 rumors “ had gotten pretty old. Beyond a label approval I know nothing, release date, price, back story as to how the hell this came about? anyone with anything to add, enlighten? it would be great to hear. I am VERY interested in this and it’s made bourbon a bit more interesting to me along with some other recent releases or to be releases which I am very happy about as the whole thing had started to feel a bit stale to me, not due to any shortage of releases but because the majority held almost zero interest for me, 2024 is thankfully reversing that. My biggest concern is price, if this is in the stratosphere then I’m out and by that I mean 100 or much over that. What say ye fans of OGD? anybody got an ear to the ground and picking up any tidbits on this one?
  12. I'm still drinking off the stash of BP private picks I acquired before the price got ridiculous. I have passed on the last few picks I've come across at $90ish. Among their current products I feel the SmB Select is one of the better values out there and compares well to RRSiB. The standard 4RSiB is still a pretty good value too.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

Thanks! We're at Singer Island, Florida. It's about 20 minutes, or so, from Palm Beach.
  14. Fortunately I stocked up back in the 55.00 days when SBBPs were popping up like mushrooms at what seemed like every LS in town. The current ask is too rich for me as ECBP shows up at 75 and while no longer a hard 12, still overlaps my preferred 4R sweet spot of 10.5 yrs. Dickle bib is double digit age and 40-45, while not BP, 100p works just fine for me. KC bottles come in below the 4R ask as does WTRR. Given the boom scenario of the last 10-12 yrs it’s no wonder their prices increased, but IMO they have outpaced some (not all) of their competitors and 75.00 would have kept me in the game but the current 100+, no, thank you, I have moved on, I’m certain they don’t care or mind.
  15. Those are quite handy. Enjoy your vacay wherever you are!

Vacation whiskey!! WT101 in a plastic bottle
  17. Another sale pickup. Wouldn't have purchased this one if it hadn't had a huge discount. After tasting it, glad I did.
  18. Local store had a big sale so I took the opportunity to pick up some bottles I've never had before.

I've ridden that train before. Great scenery.
  21. Yup! Good Old WT 101 is a reliable pour, and comparing the quality with the cheddar asked, always a good bargain. I've never, ever been disappointed with a pour of WT 101. Here's hoping that never changes!

    Starting my blind tasting journal

It looks like I'm not coming down with covid or anything after those tastings, so I'll go ahead and share my notes from last night too... First sample was really weak on the nose with a tiny bit of rye spice. I got a slight floral note but it was fleeting. There was a lot of heat with a faint suggestions of rye. A little sweet. Overall though it was overpowering peppery and char. The finish was simply bad. Just burnt peppery char. 35 / 90 The second sample had a decent nose with some sweet vanilla and strawberry fruitiness. It wasn't strong and had a brown-formam vibe to it. The pallete simply didn't exist. There was some grain and some sweet but generically so. Lots of char. It was very thin too. "Its like gentleman jack fell on hard times and had to sell off his nice stuff". The finish was actually nothing. 30 / 90

    Starting my blind tasting journal

Nose was caramel and a generic bourbon spice.moderate slight ethanol. Average. Taste was definitely young and sweet. Lots of grain and nuttiness, but not in a Beam sort of way. The body was actually fairly thick and pleasant Finish was sweet again. This was sort of one-note overall, but it played it well. 43 / 90

    Starting my blind tasting journal

Nose was nice but pretty weak. Vanilla strawberry. Not super unique but a little Palette was pretty bold with lots of fairly basic fruity sweetness with an interesting fresh suede sort of oak/char influence. Finish was sweet. Moderately long with some strawberry again. 61 / 90
  25. Underrated post right here.
  26. No I haven't. I've had several of their different mashbill single barrels, but not that one. Some of their stuff is too far out there for me and this would fall into that category for me.
