  2. I bought a bottle of Rebel Cask Strength over the weekend. Got it as a heavily discounted price. I was pleasantly surprised by it, but opted for it based on the review by Peter over at Whiskey is a Journey. I like his reviews. I find them to align closely to my views, tastes, etc.

  4. I love the John J. Bowman so much that we have a decanter that I bought at the distillery dedicated to it and it's been a staple on our bar for years. It's a very nice, well-balanced whiskey. A few years ago they had a bottle shortage at the distillery and it was briefly unavailable. We were down to the last couple of pours when it became available again. Since then, I always make sure to have a spare. At $62.00 I over paid a little, (MSRP is $56.99), but I don't care. I was also fortunate enough to snag a barrel pick last year, which is exceedingly rare for this whiskey. Truth be told, while the pick is spectacular, it isn't a whole lot better than the bottles that I've bought elsewhere...

    Linie Aquavit

Someone gifted me a bottle of Linie Aquavit. It seems to be made from potatoes. Anyone tried this before?

    Bourbon Smoker

Thank you. One of these days, I am going to give it a shot. I appreciate the response
  7. The Double Oaked is always one of my go to pours. Wild Turkey 101 is also solid!
  8. How do you like the John J Boman? My Knob Creek 18 is on its way. Can't wait for it
  9. I had to take a break in April due to tax bill, other expenses. Now that May is here, I've been on a bit of a spending spree. I ordered the 10 year yesterday. Got a fairly okay deal on it. I bought the 12 year last year for MSRP. It is my best bourbon. I think the 14 us even better. Will be that next month.
  10. Was grocery shopping and the store got a few more of these. Curiosity got the best of me and I decided to grab this one so I had all 3 of the recipes 4R released back in the fall.
  11. Nice sbs. Looking forward to trying the new 8 someday.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

I did a blind of these and I think I prefer the 8 year. The 70th is more textbook, but the 8 has a cinnamon finish and seems more playful. Cheers!
  13. This evening it's a generous pour of OF 1920. I'm a huge fan of the OF flavor profile. I think the only bottle I'm not a fan of is the 1897. I'm not sure why.

What Beer Are You Drinking In 2025

Yesterday at Total Wine while shopping for my mint julep supplies and my first Asahi Dry of the year I noticed some Belgian singles for sale. I haven’t had Duvel in years so I snagged one. Man this is great.

I love Leini. I really enjoyed the grapefruit shandy when they made it. Fear not, it’s the first week of May. The Cubs will find their form. Completely Useless By September (cubs)

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

I was only re-stocking staples. I passed on a lot...but these are the one's that I can remember the prices Bulleit BiB for $69.00 Stagg $299.00 WSR $149.00 KC12 $69.99 Blanton's $94.00 Thomas Handy Rye $599.00 1792 BiB $69.99 Booker's $99.99 MM101 $69.99 (not a typo), but the CS sitting next to it on the shelf is $49.99 Some of those aren't too obscene, but I was only interested in picking up Bulleit BiB & KC12 and they are easy enough to find so there's no reason to overpay. The one LS had 12 bottles of Stagg, and about the same of various Weller's.
  18. An appropriate reward for laying 20 rolls of sod on a hill while listening to the hometown 9 avoid a sweep by the Cubs this afternoon. Hoppy, but not a grapefruit bomb. This is right up my alley when porters and stouts are too heavy for the mood.

    KC18 in the glass...
  20. Great score on that JB Distiller's Cut. That was some sort of fantastic one off batch they did around 2017, long gone for most. Fantail WTKS, a cool bottle for sure.

I have a bunch of them in my stash too but I'd never pay $65 for them. I think the most I've paid was $45ish and even that it doesn't make sense in comparison to regular BT. I find that it tastes better than BT but not by THAT much. I still have a certain love for CEHT SmB, but that love was built back when it was $33-35 while regular BT was $20-25. The value is no longer there.
  22. That sounds like an excellent idea! I will join you, to your health sir.

What Beer Are You Drinking In 2025

Well, tomorrow is Conco de Mayo, and the beginning of hotter weather and Mexican beer drinking. I like the gulpability of an ice cold Corona after yard work, or other hot chores. I’ll also go with Estrella Jalisco, Pacifico, Modelo, and Dos Equis, but the first two are my stalwarts.

    Bourbon Smoker

Pretty much on line with what Gary says above... Couple years ago, got a Tophat from one of my Sons & a fancier one from another Son on the same Christmas. The Tophat is quicker to use and good for a couple drinks only. The fancy one; better for a several drinks at once but not really used much, here. I'm guessing it is on line with the Breville. Not hard to use but no so much worth the effort, at least to me. If you are partying with a group, you can get some mileage out of it.

    Amazing color on that!
  27. I get to post here for a change...a buddy of mine is severely downsizing his collection. I went over to grab up a few drinker bottles of rye to help him out, but ended up scooping a pair of bourbons as well.
