    Empty Bottle Support Group 2025

Same. I really like the 18, but it's pricey and an occasional pour. The 12 year is my "go-to"

My favorite KC! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Nothing against the 18yr, it is delicious but my heart and palate is with the 12yr. Never a joy in having the last pour of a great bourbon with no replacement, no matter what it is.
  6. I would not call the 70th funky at all. It is crisper, cleaner, more refined and just over all better. I would say it is actually sweeter tasting but maybe just because the 8yr is sorta muted and dusty ish in flavor, imo. Not saying the 8yr is bad, because it is not. I would put the 70th in the same ballpark as WTKS without doing a side by side. Just a better bourbon than the 8yr, imo. Without doing a sbs of WT101 and 8yr, I would prolly pick the 8yr over the WT101.(this is just from memory of what I remember of WT 101, havent had it for some time.) With that said they are all good at varying levels and pricing. If you have doubt, just buy RR sib.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

    OGD BiB in the glass....
  8. I've had the WT 70th Anniversary but not the new USA WT8/101 yet. I agree with Steve that I don't consider the 70th as having any "funky" tasting notes. I assume the new 8 year will be available here in Texas soon enough and I can compare them myself.
  9. I believe there are some comparison reviews on the internet and one of our own SB members has just posted some feedback here in the "What bourbon are you drinking" thread What bourbon are you drinking Spring 2025
  10. I think the new one is only in a few markets as we are early in the rollout so not sure how many of us have both. I do not. I did ask one of the WT senior brand builders how they compared and he said that while different, if you liked the 70th you will also like the new one. Good news for me as I've gone through quite a few of the 70th. I don't think it's at all funky.
  11. No OF 100 for the BOTM thread so a pour of OFSBBS rye for Fryeday night in the rain. Looking like a wet Friday/Sat so bet the “mudders” in tomorrow’s Derby. It may be a sit home and watch rather than going to the track tomorrow. Either way there will be Juleps on the day. Cheers!

I know it's Fryeday, but I'm not feeling it tonight. I'm always sad to see these go and I don't have a replacement. I might have to break into the 18....
  13. How does the Wild Turkey 101 8yr Jimmy Russell 70th Anniversary release compare to the newly released 8 Year. I have never seen or tried the 70th Anniversary release. But saw the 8 year old for $40 tonight for the first time. I asked the guy working the bourbon section and he said the 70 Annisversary was "funky" and the 8 year was "sweeter". Hmmmm... So I figured I come here to ask.
  14. I purchased a Saints Alley Nobleman rye recently after seeing some favorable local reviews. I haven't opened it yet. In my glass tonight is Old Forester 100 Rye and it's singing. Happy fRYEday.

  17. Just cracked one of my absolute favorites this evening, in honor of this month's SB Bottle of The Month. Great choice.

    BOTM 05/2025 Old Forester Rye

Awesome choice for BOTM @Jazz June! This thread made me crack open a new bottle from the bunker, as it's been a minute since I had one open on my bar. That unfortunate situation has been rectified now. I agree with everything written above (and great tasting notes @PaulO ... your notes captured what I taste but could not articulate myself). And I'll take things a step further. In my opinion, this is the best "budget" American whiskey on the market. Not just in the rye category, but including bourbons too. Define "budget whiskey" however you want, but to me the price has to top out at 25 bucks in most markets. My other main contender would be WT101, but in my opinion this OF100 Rye does rye even better than WT101 does bourbon. That's saying something coming from me! I really love this whiskey.

It’s fRYEday. Another 2015 bites the dust. Creaminess and delicate baking spice rounds out an initial herbal note in this wonderful pour. A gentle hug highlights the complexity of this whiskey at an appropriate and approachable 90p. This was allegedly the last of the old tanked Saz18 before it switched to BT distillate. Quite the special pour.
  24. Although, I understand the reluctance to offer rare pours to folx that wouldn't appreciate 'em; I do not recommend scamming anybody the way you described (I think maybe you were shinin' us one there?). If you really are considering it, I say; Don't. It's bad karma. Offer it to 'em in highballs or some other easy-drinking combination. If they don't know the difference anyway, they'll probably like it fine that way.
  25. Just bought and opened a Smooth Ambler Old Scout 99 proof. NAS. Supposedly MGP juice. Second bottle that I have considered pouring out (first was called Beams). Awful. Tastes like a weak scotch!! $40 bucks wasted. Could of bought a 1L KC9. Might consider putting it in a quality bourbon bottle and let my many BIL's drink it with glee!!
