  2. I’m having a nice pour of a ps OFSB Barrel Strength 128.2 proof. One of the darkest and hottest bourbons I’ve had in a while. The nose is sublime. Very earthy/vegetal/mushroomy with spice and wood in the background. First sip, hot. Too hot. Very spicy and a bit acidy. Added water and ice chips and it’s much better. More woody, and some smokiness is there. The nose changed a little too. Still earthy, but now there’s the smell of a rickhouse starting to come through. Love that in a bourbon. Let it sit. Nose is about the same. Flavor has a changed little though. Earthiness is back, along with a slight hint of mustiness. These flavors trying to come through remind me so much of some of the older OF bottlings I’ve had in the past.

I have a huge collection of glassware, but never recall seeing that exact pattern before. I suspect it was made by one of the major glass companies, because of the precision. It looks like glass made in a mold, rather than cut crystal. You could look online at products offered by U.S. companies Libbey or Anchor Hocking, or French company Luminarc. To complicate matters further, patterns get retired and new ones come out. Or search Old Fashioned Glass Hobnail on Amazon or Google.
  4. I opened a KCSB that I've had for a year or so. This is one of those no extra information on the barrel - date or cute name who selected it. Never been sorry about any KCSB I've tried. No exception here. So far, the one stand out characteristic of this barrel - drinks way below its' proof.

    Starting my blind tasting journal

Nose huge vanilla bomb. Strongly so. Some caramel, approaching caramelized sugar and a nice rye baking spice. The taste was bold and hit well. I still wanted it turned up another notch though. There was a decent amount of nuance with complex vanilla/oak tannins and a good amount of rye influence. It did feel lacking some of the deeper notes although I may have been splitting hairs. The body was the weakest part, feeling slightly thin. The finish was excellent warming and flavorful. In a predictable manner, I enjoyed this and tasted some rye, so I automatically though of 4 roses. I am an unabashed fan boy and I attribute all hood bourbon to them 62+ / 90

    Starting my blind tasting journal

Nose had some light clove and caramel vanilla goodness. It was pretty bright and I got a hint of lilac/floral and I took my first sip. If this was stronger it would be amazing. The pallette was pleasant but understated. Good rye and floral notes with a bright sweetness. The finish had a nice warming aspect and a sort of flan/custard sweet finish, but the flavors were very weak. In all, this tasted like excellent bourbon that just needed a higher proof. The rye spice I was getting made me think it was the 80p 4R. 57++ / 90
  7. I really enjoy the LB7. It amazes me that the blending of the first 6 resulted in this profile. I have my eye on a backup that has been sitting at a local store.

Where’d you find the pic? You might check this site: www.Replacements.com. They sell odds and ends of patterned china, silverware, stemware, etc. I found the pic below of something similar, but there are 42 pages of glassware that may contain what you’re looking for. You probably could forward your pic to see if they recognize it, and possibly have it in their stock.

Just the photo. That’s all I’ve got. I found one kinda similar, but it had vertical etching (term ?) on the bottom quarter, then the hobnail pattern (a watch term) above (not sure of crystal glass terminology). This one has the hobnail patter throughout still looking for some of that SB groupthink!
  11. A nip of Old Charter Oak French Oak while trying to dig out from a couple days out of the office last week.
  12. Oh, ok - gave up on Little Book after buying 1, 2, & 3. Just not worth the price for the experience (for me at least). JMHO, F. 8-(
  13. Yup. Sorry. I get so used to trading terms and forget...not everyone speaks that particular dialect of Geek. Little Book 7, yup.

    Are they vintage?
  15. OK, I give up - what the heck are you talking about???
  16. LB7 today. Mmmmm. Way better than LB6.
  17. Hughgweil mentioned to me that he thought it was way better than A124. 11y, 130 proof. He does like his stuff proofy. I used to get every release, now I generally wait for a few reviews from people I trust (same with Bookers, I prefer the ECBP's to those most days). I'll get one or two of these. With ECBP there's good or there's great, I've never had one I thought was bad. So I tend to hold out for the "better" ones. My palate is improving, I can often tell the difference. My 2 cents.
  18. Has anyone tried the ECBP B 524? My LS has one coming in. LMK...

Are you just going from that photo, or can we see anything imprinted on the bottom.

I'm sure it's just the angle the picture was taken from but damn that glass looks like it's one second from falling of that ledge! Haha

Really nice looking glass! Sorry I can't help with the identification.
  22. In this case I shared with fellow speakers. It's fun, we chat, bond, do some business, etc. Also...they shall likely be quite willing to find/mule things in the future (e.g., one little trip to Japan with a few WT12's for Moi, etc.). The latter is not the purpose, just a nice side benefit. If I host the event, I have been known to pass a bottle or two around. Breaks the ice and allows me to identify fellow trouble makers. I am pretty obnoxious (surprise!) when speaking, it's part of the schtick. I actually make people sign something to the effect of "This is not a Safe Space, I will not alter my vocabulary to cater to your personal problems, I will discuss my superior right-wing politics, don't like it don't come, etc.". Weeds out a good many losers and allows me to eviscerate the few who do show up.

The inventor of that drink should probably change the name. It doesn't have much in common with an Old Fashioned at all. With all that coffee and sweetness, I agree that it would probably be better with a rye or even a peaty scotch.
  24. I have never considered liquoring up my audience prior to speaking events. I don't do as much public speaking as in the past but I still do an occasional presentation. I am at the point in my career where I just don't give a shit. I might just bring a bottle or two to the next professional presentation and offer up a pour or two to the participants. The last event had around 50 people. So maybe 4 bottles with a 2 oz shot at the beginning and then a 2 oz shot midway through. I believe I was at around 40 minutes. So, rather than asking "does anyone have any questions?", I could ask "does anyone want another shot?" I am not sure what to do if they don't drink bourbon. I know...I will just say that the price of admission for hearing my nonsense is you have to take a shot whenever I say a trigger word or you can just go out in the hallway until I am done spewing nonsense. . Obviously, as a Cheap Bastard, they would be taking shots of shit whiskey but after the second shot they probably wouldn't notice.
  25. Finally got around to cracking open my bottle of A. Overholt Rye. Wow, very spicy. My taste buds aren't the same ever since I had covid a couple of years ago, so I can't give a detailed tasting of it. I can't discern between all of the flavors that others can tell apart anymore, but I know it's "spicy" more than a Kentucky rye. Not bad. Jeff
  26. Went back to the RB Kentucky Oak after dinner tonight. This is the one Irish whiskey I could drink regularly like I do bourbon. It's just so balanced.
