I am not sure I have said this here before, so bare or bear with me if I have. I read somewhere that there is more bourbon in barrells aging now than ever before. Somewhere between 2-4 times what was stored 15-20 yrs ago. But the bottling of bourbon has remained relatively the same in that same time frame. ( i will try to find my source) As you all prolly know ,I can find a lot of false info. Lol So with the boom busting, what is going to happen? Less bourbon drinkers, tariffs affecting global sales and distribution, more bourbon aging, same bottling volume, and demand diminishing.... are they going to give us better bourbon in smaller bottles(same or more $$$) or continue status quo? Will global markets benifit once the tariff wars end? Maybe this belongs on a different topic. My bad. -

I see Pursuit United is overhauling their packaging. Guess what bottle size they decided to downsize to? Yup 700 mL Press release Pursuit Spirits unveils new expressions alongside packaging redesign I've never bought a bottle of their stuff and now I have another reason not to. -

The Missus already vetoed that anyway. She only wants to hit one distillery and JD is where she wants to go. I'm working on her see if we can hit Dickel too, but that's probably not in the cards... -

I don't think they have a still on site and from what I read it sounds like more of an event center with a bar and restaurant. Also sort of a concert venue. If you don't like their whiskey then there's probably no reason to go. -

BOTM 05/2025 Old Forester Rye
smokinjoe replied to Jazz June's topic in Straight Bourbon Of The Month
This whiskey is fine enough for me. Several I like better, but it is my nice “change of pace”, rye. Easy sipping, and has some unique profiles across the palate which make it just interesting enough when sipped neat. Water or ice kill it, and it just doesn’t hold up for me. It tends to get lost in my cocktails, so I don’t use it there… But, it shines for blending with bourbons, for some reason. My blends are hardly ever “intentional”, but when a bourbon just ain’t hittin’ it for me, I find that an addition of some of this rye really melds well and ultimately saves the day, and then some. So, i usually keep it on hand for that…gladly. -

The other fresh open that burned more than I expected (that is, "at all") was the OF High Angel's share. I remember trying it (same version) at a friend's place and really liking it. -

Opened up some bottles from the trip to Kentucky. I have not had any alcohol for 3 weeks. Is normal after such a spell that "everything tastes hot"? Both bottles did. I know they were neck pours...but not really high proof. I'll let them sit for a few months as is often my habit. This "7" year SP went 11 years & 8 months. Definitely has that Beam flavor. PS: Thanks Gen Tee! -
They put down more of the four grain mash bill as the stuff that became the EH Taylor Four Grain releases was aging, so that might be another thing they could do to differentiate it.

I like OF Rye. I have not had it in some time as it is a lil difficult for me to find. Reading this B(rye)OTM topic has me wanting to procure a btl sooner than later.

both CYPB and Russell's Reserve 15 are on my list. I passed locally on CYPB 2 weeks ago. $500 was just too much

that looks really neat

I think Texas bourbon is rather special. I prefer what Garrison Brothers does over Still Austin. That said, Still Austin is quite good too. My largest issue with Garrison Brothers is the price point is high to me. Love what New Riff is doing too. Have not tried Hard Truth but heard great things.
