What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

I passed on Angel's Envy Cask Strength. I thought long and hard about it, but I don't think it was worth the $225 asking price. I find their bourbon to just be okay.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

I do too, but it can be found around here for ~ $65.00

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

Passed on a lot at a Va ABC store... The prices were all good but I exercised restraint...they had a good selection. Booker's $99.99 Heaven Hill Grain to Glass $99.99 are the only prices that I recall but they a lot of different of Woodford Master Series

    Coopers Craft R.I.P.

Glad to see you found one! Are you saying it is still being made, but only distributed in those two states?

    Coopers Craft R.I.P.

Only sold in KY and Ohio. I just picked up a bottle of 100proof for $34! It's delicious. Complex and not too hot.

    Widow Jane

I am pretty sure I had the Decadence, but I do not remember my thoughts on it. That seems like a good price for the 13 year. Let us know what you think.

    So, whatcha smokin?

H Upmann AJF Heritage Toro after dinner. A bit of bourbon and Braves on the radio to keep me company.

  12. $44.95 at Va ABC store. Limit 1 per customer. Mrs. Skinsfan and I each bought one. Gonna try it tonight. As I stated in another thread I hope it's $20.00 better than the standard NAS WT101...

    Widow Jane

Excellent. Thank you. I found a bottle of the 13 year for $110 locally. Not a bad price. The decadence is a maple infused. That one may be a little too sweet. That said, I do enjoy Old Forester 1910 and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

    Widow Jane

Yes, it is good if you like oakier bourbons. Wood forward if I recall. The 10 year is nice and not as woody as the cask strength special editions, although those are definitely richer. Flavor wise, the 10 year is probably a medium body. They used to have a 7 or 8 year which was a good balanced bourbon, but I am not sure if it is still available. I do not see it on the company website. The Apple wood rye is pretty unique and I enjoy that. For the price, I would lean more towards store picks that are barrel proof. However, I like a punch in the face of flavor and tend not to gravitate to very oaky bourbons.
  15. Yeah the box basically works out to the 375 of BiB for almost free.

    Widow Jane

Not sure if Widow Jane qualifies as a craft bourbon, but I see it all the time, but always pass. Anyone tried Widow Jane before?

    What’s on the menu????

yeah, it was way to sweet for me too. I did the same thing you suggested and put it in an old fashioned. I didn't add sugar or simple syrup and it was good. I do have the RD One Maple, and also the thirteen colony. Those are much more subtle.
  18. A quick rundown of recent 101 proof Wild Turkey bourbons: Expression Age Price (MSRP) 101 NAS 5yr+ $28 101 PS 7-9 year single barrels ~$70 8/101 8yr+ $45 8/101 70th Anniversary 8 & 9 year $50 Kentucky Spirit 8-10 year single barrels $62 Kentucky Spirit PS 8-10 year single barrels Export only (was $62 in US) 12/101 12yr+ Export only (~$125-150 in US)
  19. Just snagged a couple WT101 8 year at a Va ABC store on the way down to Va Beach to visit family. It's allocated, so me and the missus bought one each. $44.00. I hope it's $20.00 better than the standard...
  20. I participated in a whiskey sampling last night. One of the 3 offerings was an Irish Whiskey. The one they provided was Teeling. I'm not a fan of Irish Whiskey, but it was not the worst whiskey I have tasted.
  21. Thank you. I will likely pick up a cask strength as it's the easiest to find
  22. My long awaited wait to sample Old Forester 1924 has come to an end. My bottle arrived yesterday and I had my first pour last night. It was good. Oddly, I preferred the King Ranch variety. That aside, I am not disappointed.

    BOTM 05/2025 Old Forester Rye

Lots of folks recommending the Old Forrester Rye. Easy to find and affordable. Good call
  24. Was re-setting gut biome. Alcohol lamentably interferes with that. That table! Bourbon Joe did it again - that 1982 OWA/Stitzel-Weller. Never had anything like it. He did something similar 2 years ago. A 10y JW Dant from 60's. Never would have had something like that but for him. I helps understand what you guys mean by The Good Old Days. Everything there was great - I was really pleased to try the OF BB 13 with the mutant yeast - thanks to kcgumbohead! Given my lightweight tendencies, I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot. Cheap date & all.
  25. My Sagamore vote, in order of my personal preference: 1. 9 Year 2. 8 Year (nearly as good as the 9, if you cannot find the 9) 3. Store pick (most of these are 110 proof) and I think the "Cask Strength" (non store picks) are probably just as good if you don't see a pick 4. Sherry Finish The Port finish is actually right up there at the top but it's a very limited annual release and almost impossible to find. Good luck and let us know what you end up with!
  26. Agree. I would have bought box set for that price. ( I have never had a chance to buy a BB, sadly)
  27. Wow, I remember paying $39.99 for my last BB. I thought it was ok, but not something I'd chase now. Those 3 375ml boxes look interesting.
