Planning October 2025 Bourbon Trail Trip from Texas

The above mentioned recommendations are spot-on. There's a ton to see and do. The grounds at WR & MM are gorgeous. We've been twice, (2017 & 2019) and toured a lot of distilleries, both on our own & with a tour company (Mint Julep Tours). Randomly.....if they still offer it, the Hard Hat tour at BT is really good. We were pleasantly surprised by Beam. The elevated tastings at the HH visitors center was fun. BBC has a fantastic restaurant, try to eat lunch there. We also did a "behind the scenes" tour at Churchill Downs. My #1 piece of advice is to book any tours ASAP!
  3. I ain't had one of these open in quite a while. The carnation asked if it could be included in the shot, to ensure "thematic cohesion." I agreed but didn't let on that I had no idea what that meant. Even the flowers around here are smarter than me (I).

Lol. Then why couldn't he just say "the state of Alabama"? Generation Z, I can only assume Lol ....
  5. Sounds great. I've never had a Kavalan personally but I've been impressed by feedback from others that I respect. Any specific Kavalan that you would recommend as a first bottle?

  7. Picked up the Kicking Chicken btl the other day( WT 101 ) and poured a glass tonight. First time in prolly a couple yrs since I have had it. I have never been a BIG fan of the 101. I have prefered OF 100, 4R SiB, KC 100,.... all for about the same price( ok, 4R SiB is 10+$ more, not a fair price comparison) . They all have satisfied my taste buddies on multiple levels where 101 has not. And tonight, same as before, not really impressed. It is NOT horrible but just not captivating in any way for me. I really was hoping it would be close to the 8yr or even the 70th btls, but it is not close for me. Those other 2 btls are head and shoulders above this 101. I can't make sense of this. I really love RRSiB, WTKS and Rare Breed. I really enjoyed the 70th and do enjoy the 8yr. I just don't see the hype of the 101. May I still be a member of the flock? Or am I stuck delivering flowers with the herd?

  9. Not a Scotch, but a wonderful single malt from one of my favorite distilleries, Kavalan, from Taiwan. I have cask strength single barrels from them that are Bourbon Cask, Fino Sherry, Moscatted Sherry, and Vinho Barrique. Now I have another, a single barrel, 9yr, cask strength (59.4% ABV), Kavalan "Port Cask," selected for a local whiskey society. I might post a picture of the bottle (green label) at some point, but what an amazing find. I tried it the other night after but after another dense and rich bottle I picked up - which I will talk about in another post. It was good, but I did not get all the nuances. I let it open up for a few days and tried it again tonight. Really nice pour and just what I like in a single malt. It is rich and dense (when I twirled it in my Glencairn, it took forever for the droplets to drip down the sides of the glass) and with rich malt and deep grape and (some) raisin fruit flavor. The smell is fruit forward but the palate is a deeper flavor profile than what the palate lets on. It is not as "dark" and fig/date like as some sherry casks, but the port flavor is rich and pronounced and really nice. As with my most Kavalan's, it drinks smooth and does not feel like almost 60% ABV. What a unique and great bottle. I initially gave it 8.75/10 but think that could move up as it opens up a little more with time.

What bottle did you open in 2025 ?

We didn't have a JDBP open, and we've been in a Jack mood the last week or so.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

My best friend stopped by the other night and he's a Jack guy. I also snuck in a little Buffalo Trace.
  17. That Bulleit BIB is my best new bourbon of 2025. I’ve been totally digging it.
  18. I can't believe some of you all are thumbs down on the Bulleit BiB. What do you expect for a 45 dollar legit bonded bourbon? What specifically are you looking for in this bottle that you are not receiving? I'm not judging, ... I am just legit curious.

What Beer Are You Drinking In 2025

Yessir! Noooormaaaan. What a great character he was in Cheers. After I learned of his passing earlier tonight, I googled some videos of him in Cheers. Great stuff! BTW, this is the perfect place to put this!
  20. This probably should be posted in an Off-Topic forum, but screw it. RIP to one of the greatest beer drinkers of all time. A key character in my favorite sitcom ever. Raise a glass for George Wendt / Norm from Cheers George Wendt, beloved bar regular Norm on NBC's 'Cheers,' dies at 76
  21. Here's my hope for your speedy and complete recovery! Here's a bit of what may (or may not) be useful 'wisdom'. I have had more than a little bit of trouble with my lower back / hips (along with some significant arthritis in various joints). I finally got the best help from a "spine specialist", a physiatrist (if I spelled that right). Her practice eschewed using the various diagnostic imaging options before an actual careful hands-on exam, along with an extensive question/answer session. She believed strongly that too many diagnoses were incorrect or incomplete when relying too heavily on only imaging. She and her team did what they do, then referred me to a skilled Physical Therapist practice with a treatment plan to follow. This PT works closely with her team giving and receiving feedback all through the PT course, and adjusting along the way. If you can find such a person/practice, it may be very beneficial. Good Luck!!!! (And, I'll offer this completely useless hope that you enjoyed that awful WLW.) (I know how rarely that stuph satisfies.) HA!
  22. I have been eyeballing this btl for awhile not knowing if it is worth the cheddar($). After reading some posts from some SBer's and having the day off and happened to drive by a LQ store or 3, , I decided to pull the trigger and grab one. This is Batch 80 and comes in at 106.4pf.
  23. Ok I might have sold the 1792 12 Year a little short in my previous response. Your post inspired me to revisit it for the first time in a long time. It's a very solid pour and is singing with my palate tonight. (This sort of reinforces my feelings about Barton bourbon -- it's typically hit and miss for me depending on my palate mood. But I enjoy it more times than not ... I just don’t reach for it as often as I probably should, which is on me). I am very impressed that despite the 12 years in oak this still retains that Barton fruitiness that I like. I will still contend that Calumet 14 and 16 are better, ... BUT at a much higher cost of entry than this one. If you see it for a reasonable price I recommend it. Just don't overpay since there are plenty of good Barton options out there.

  25. Good luck on your condition. Been there myself and it's not fun.
  26. Jealous of the WLW which is an elusive Bigfoot to me, but really hoping for "big improvement" to your health & well-being...
