What’s open on your bar? 2024-???

I have open in the cabinet: Old Forester 100, EW B.I.B., WT101 Rye, Rittenhouse, and Smokey Joe Islay Scotch. I was thinking about fishnbowljoe last week, as I drove around Fort Harrison on my way to chaperone 4th graders at Conner Prairie.

    Bourbon MEME's

Sounds good, but I didn't pick the name!!!
  4. There's a scene in The Gangs Of New York, Di Caprio's character totally looses his cool and beats up a dude that called hin "a chiseler".

    Man Down-Man Up

    Man, you're killin' me.
  6. I know which one I'd like to drink. I saw on the ECBP site where B525 was released. 126 .2 proof, aged 11yr/6mo. That's even higher proof than my 1792 Full proof at 125. Now I have to hunt it down. How much time does it usually take (ball park) until a released batch gets to the retail market? Also, how can we tell the yield of this batch? If its a much smaller yield, it may affect things considerably,
  7. WT101 8Year, very good. Doc Swinson, KC9.

  9. Next up was HH HC 19yr Wheat Whiskey. Man this is delicious. Thank goodness this does not taste anything like Berheim with the same mashbill. I don't mind buying a dram but buying a btl if I were to find it close to msrp would be a difficult decision to throw that amount of cash down for it, especially without tasting it first. Now that I have had a sample, I would be tempted to reach for the wallet. Oh, it would hurt though.
  10. I checked mine and yes it does have quite a bit of sediment. The 8 has some but not as much as the 15. I found my 10 and it has just a tiny bit if you flop the bottle upside down. I have a 12CS somewhere but can't locate it right now.
  11. I'm sure flahute or joe could move it for you
  12. Giving a test drive with the latest version of EC BP that I have found. Tha A125, 118.2pf, 10yrs 7mo. I am terrible at nosing so all I will say is that it smells like bourbon. The palate, I am not much better at but, I got apple right of the bat with my first sip. Now after a few more sips I picked up red fruits. A lil vanilla. Not sure if I am confusing the slight ethanol burn with cinnamon?? Also pick up mild caramel. I get an oily finish as well. Overall, I like it!

  14. Just noticed my 15 has a bunch of sediment in it. Not necessarily a bad thing from my experience. How about yours?

    Happy Derby Day 2025

Not bad for a 50$ bet and some luck.

I just want to wish everybody a Happy World Cocktail Day today!

    Old Elk Double Wheated

I picked up the Bardstown Wheated for $40. Much lower than some of their other offerings. At $40, it's a tad more than Weller and Green River, both of which are better than the Old Elk.

    2025 Unicorn Season

I never see Old Fitzgerald locally. See Weller's all the time. See Pappy's, George T Stagg, etc. Perhaps they just aren't in South Texas
  19. This is a really good bourbon at it's price. I have a C924 and a A125

    Cocktail Hour - 2025

Steakhouse Manhattan (heavy bourbon, chunk ice, light stir) after a day of yard work. I doubt Howard himself could have done it any better.

    Old Elk Double Wheated

The B'town wheated ( I have only the 'Origins' BiB) is very nice to my taste buddies. They aren't giving it away; but, it isn't a total robbery for what it is. I wasn't impressed with any of the Old Elk that I tried. I can't recall which ones they were; but, I tried at least 3-different iterations. All were meh. And, for the cheddar required, I haven't any interest in looking at this brand any further. Just one man's opinion, of course. Others may find it hits 'em perfectly. That's what makes tasting and comparing whiskey so much fun!
  23. The local barleys are good, but they're not really available at retail for me, only tater prices. I still have some the first runs of 10, 15 and 16 years olds from year ago stashed away I think
  24. Springbank makes great Scotch. I am not a huge peat fan and need to be in the mood for it, but Springbank is a more balanced peat than Islay, for example. Not as potent and more smokey than medicinal in my opinion. I have the local barley and it is delicious. Mine is a 9 year, but I am sure the 8 year is amazing as well. Enjoy them in good health and please let us know what you think.
  25. When moving from the old measurements based on gallons, the standard whiskey bottle was a fifth of a gallon. Hence the term a "Fifth of whiskey." 750 mL was the metric volume that closely matched 20% of a gallon of liquid. Similarly 1.75L is very close to the old "Half gallon" jug of whiskey.
  26. I've wondered for years how we settled on 750 mL as the standard offering size when 1L is just sitting there, a nice pretty round number. And why is my handle of WT101 in a 1.75L and not a 2L?
