What Bourbon Are You Drinking Summer 2025?
Anwalt replied to fishnbowljoe's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
Peerless Bourbon SP. Their stuff got way better at 6 years. Headed to Europe for 3 weeks soon. I generally drink very little bourbon while there (unless visiting Obree, then we have quite a bit). More wine & beer, depending on locale. So I'll be on the quiet side for a spell. Actually, with work being so busy, I often miss my 4 O'Clock starting point. So I've been a bit quiescent lately. -

Boo-lay Maybe I'll have to start calling it that. -
Hi, my name is Guss and I'm a recovering whiskey tater.

I'd say if you enjoy the Heaven Hill standard Bourbon house style (EW, Dant, JTS Brown, ...) you've got a winner. FC at a great deal price, I would stock up. -
BOTM 07/2025 Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof
Guss West replied to Jazz June's topic in Straight Bourbon Of The Month
Squirreled away a couple cases over the past few years. Right up there with 12-year aged stated ECBP for price:value and bunker-ability in my book. Glad to see this sitting on most shelves consistently here in 2025!! - Today

http://bourbonr.com/blog/behind-scenes-bookers-roundtable/ Still a case of Toogie's in the bunker. Great value at $60. One of the last before Booker's went full Tater. -
BOTM 07/2025 Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof

Indeed JJ, I agree that Daniel’s has really upped their game past couple of years, led by this JDSBBP. I love it, and have several bunkered away, as I was picking them to whenever I saw them when they were not easy to find. Luckily, availability has improved to the point I can probably get one any day of the week at a store near me. It is not an everyday pour for me, and maybe not even weekly, because it’s so good I keep it for when I want something special. In an environment where barrel proof bourbons are now readily available from many sources, this is on the “Exceptional” range of that flavor spectrum. So much so, that except for the truly exceptional releases of ECBP, JDSBBP consistently outperforms it, for me. That’s no easy feat. -

I've heard great things about the Michter's 10 year rye. Haven't been able to find it locally -

I enjoy the 1792 varieties. I have 6 of them in my collection. The small batch is very versatile. Can be enjoyed neat, on the rock, as a mixer. It's fairly priced and easily available too. -

I agree. The Jack Daniels Single Barrel, Barrel Proof is quite good, and won't break the bank -

Been awhile since I’ve had this, so I decided to revisit. Still just “fine”. Nothing to get excited about. -

Drinking a 7 year old Smoke Wagon Private Barrel. It's okay, but man those private selections sure were a lot better when they had private barrels available at 12+, but seems those days are gone. -

Can't wait to try it. I don't think I've ever had it. Fighting Cock is rarely seen in my area. -

Another for bullet, although……. I was at a store one time “browsing the booze”. Another guy was looking too. He saw me and we exchanged pleasantries. He picked up a bottle of Bulleit. He looked at me and asked if I knew anything about this “Boo-let” bourbon. I managed to keep a straight face and told him it was a pretty decent bourbon. He thanked me and headed to the checkout counter with bottle in hand. I did chuckle when he went around the corner. -

Yesterday was KC9, OF1920, Holladays. All great!! -
I quite enjoyed the article. I consider myself a longtime Bourbon fan, enthusiast, aficionado, whatever, but definitely not a tater. Probably a majority of the tater activities listed in the article - I would definitely not do. I think waiting in long lines, and or forking over big bucks for product (let's be honest) that is so-so average - it's ridiculous. When this nonsense started, I liked to compare it to the fable of The Emperor's New Clothes. The good news is we have plenty of great American Whiskey available nowadays, and prices can be very reasonable. Stick to the mid shelf brands from the legacy distillers. Walmart's store brand knock off of frozen Tater Tots are also labeled "Taters".

Continuing with my draining of some 'old' sample bottles of whiskey (almost all of 'em Bourbon)... I emptied a 3-ounce bottle filled with a sample of maybe my favorite Booker's iteration: Toogie's Invitation from 2016, 129-proof. (A "Roundtable Pick" I heard.) I'd slot this one about-even-or-slightly-ahead of either Booker's 25th Anniversary or Booker's 30th Anniversary. Depending on the day I taste any of these (and, they are all very similar - as are nearly all Booker's iterations to my taste buddies), each may exceed the other two by a narrow margin, or may be very nearly indistinguishable from each other. I think 'Toogie's' may be slightly milder in the alcohol burn most times, in spite of it's relatively higher proof. In any case my "anniversary" bottles are both gone, so all I can do today is enjoy what is available, and it is extremely enjoyable! All Brown sugar, caramel, with a hint of roasted peanuts: Liquid Cracker Jack. A high-proof dessert pour. -
