smokinjoe replied to smokinjoe's topic in General Non-Whiskey Alcohol
Yessir! Noooormaaaan. What a great character he was in Cheers. After I learned of his passing earlier tonight, I googled some videos of him in Cheers. Great stuff! BTW, this is the perfect place to put this! -

This probably should be posted in an Off-Topic forum, but screw it. RIP to one of the greatest beer drinkers of all time. A key character in my favorite sitcom ever. Raise a glass for George Wendt / Norm from Cheers George Wendt, beloved bar regular Norm on NBC's 'Cheers,' dies at 76 -

Here's my hope for your speedy and complete recovery! Here's a bit of what may (or may not) be useful 'wisdom'. I have had more than a little bit of trouble with my lower back / hips (along with some significant arthritis in various joints). I finally got the best help from a "spine specialist", a physiatrist (if I spelled that right). Her practice eschewed using the various diagnostic imaging options before an actual careful hands-on exam, along with an extensive question/answer session. She believed strongly that too many diagnoses were incorrect or incomplete when relying too heavily on only imaging. She and her team did what they do, then referred me to a skilled Physical Therapist practice with a treatment plan to follow. This PT works closely with her team giving and receiving feedback all through the PT course, and adjusting along the way. If you can find such a person/practice, it may be very beneficial. Good Luck!!!! (And, I'll offer this completely useless hope that you enjoyed that awful WLW.) (I know how rarely that stuph satisfies.) HA! -

I have been eyeballing this btl for awhile not knowing if it is worth the cheddar($). After reading some posts from some SBer's and having the day off and happened to drive by a LQ store or 3, , I decided to pull the trigger and grab one. This is Batch 80 and comes in at 106.4pf. - Today

Ok I might have sold the 1792 12 Year a little short in my previous response. Your post inspired me to revisit it for the first time in a long time. It's a very solid pour and is singing with my palate tonight. (This sort of reinforces my feelings about Barton bourbon -- it's typically hit and miss for me depending on my palate mood. But I enjoy it more times than not ... I just don’t reach for it as often as I probably should, which is on me). I am very impressed that despite the 12 years in oak this still retains that Barton fruitiness that I like. I will still contend that Calumet 14 and 16 are better, ... BUT at a much higher cost of entry than this one. If you see it for a reasonable price I recommend it. Just don't overpay since there are plenty of good Barton options out there. - Yesterday

Jealous of the WLW which is an elusive Bigfoot to me, but really hoping for "big improvement" to your health & well-being... -
Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked

I tend to agree with you. I am a big fan of the Double Oaked, but found this one almost too sweet for my palate. I like it, but in my opinion, it's not 3.5X better than the standard Double Baked -

I’m having some WLW. I/we spent the day with several doctors at different practices. I hurt myself a few weeks ago and it has been degenerative. They are looking at my back and pelvis (x-rays and mri). Hopefully get some answers soon. Time for the really good stuff to get poured. -

I did like the JEP but have yet to buy a bottle. But, like @Grady330, I too was underwhelmed by the Bulleit BIB. I passed on a purchase when it first became available but tried it at a friend's soon after. Was glad I passed. -

WTRB....always makes a case for just buying this and not spending more. The 112 was a miss but the 108-116 have been some of my consistent favorites. Looking forward to the NCF version, this will be tough to improve on but NCF sure won't hurt. For fun I did a VERY rare follow up pour of something else, in this case the Glenns Creek recent purchase. The GC is a 4yr/2mo single barrel the features a noticeably thinner mouth feel, flavor wise the GC has a distinct crisp apple note mid palate to finish. Its quite tasty and a completely different experience from the RB. Best enjoyed in a solo setting not following up WTRB. -

Interesting. I have been a bit impressed by the Bulleit BiB. Then again I like Bulleit in general, even tho this is finally their own juice. As far as the JEP goes, I hope the public never finds out how good this bottle is. Since Blanton's is no longer an easy grab for me, the JEP has been my gifting bottle as of late. The bottle is not only nice but the juice inside just as nice. Kinda' cool that some of the streamers gave it a thumbs down. Nothing is everyone's cup of tea or glass of bourbon as it were... -
The reason I got sticker shock was the bottles I saw on offer were only like 4 or 5 years old. For stuff they sourced from MGP, seems like quite a reach. It's probably ok, but for that much, needs to be special. There's another brand, Old Hamer, has the same business model - youngish barrels sourced from MGP for $$$. I pass on that too.

I share that thought, Joe. I've had a few of the PS SIB picks a few years back that were very close to this in terms of flavor and complexity. -

Yes. It's fine but not my favorite. If you cannot find it, try a Calumet Farms which is distilled at Barton as well. -

Two more for the bin. The HW is a bourbon finished in Madeira casks. it was okay. I've already bought a replacement bottle for the New Riff 6 yr Malted rye because I really liked it. I can't decide if I like this one or the similar Chattanooga 99 malted rye more. They are both very good.

I'm not very big fan of either the regular WRDO or 1910. I can't imagine liking the Double Double Oak. I did recently purchase the OF gift pack of 375 mL bottles so I'll be giving 1910 another go eventually to see if it can change my mind.

I liked it, too. But, at 8 years, I didn’t think it was that significantly better than the initial 4 year release. Perhaps, they need to push around with it. -

Initial thought, I like it. But with similar age and mash bill, I prefer the new 4R SIB OESK 100 proof. My next buy will be Bulliett BIB. It's been probably 10 or so years since I bought a Bulliett bottle, but everyone has been speaking pretty glowingly about that one. -
