  2. Well I haven't tasted Act 11 personally, so I can't say one way or the other. My personal stash of HW Midwinter is almost depleted, so I may have to start purchasing it again, maybe as soon as later this year, ... so I suppose I will eventually find out for myself, hah.

    Cocktail Hour - 2025

I enjoyed a really good old fashioned last night. Simple blend of bullet rye and bullet bourbon with the usual bitters and sugar mix. Very nice

Still one of my go to bourbons. I would like to add a 12 year at the higher proof but not at the current prices

I agree on the 1792. I just added one to my collection. I paid more than double $50. At $10 per year, it was worth it to me but I wouldn’t spend more to replace it
  7. P.S. did you notice that their corks also have their "1909" marker on their cork lines up at the bottle lip? Once you open a bottle and remove the shrink wrap, you can see the "1909" impression on the cork through the glass neck. I guess the year 1909 has some special significance with the history of their distillery grounds. Just a cool detail, that's all.
  8. Oh yeah. Their attention to detail with packaging is absolutely second to none. And I mean everyone. Their corks have their logo. But their bottles have all kinds of similar detail on the sides, bottom, multiple angles, etc. Quality execution from their marketing team. YET still they keep their retail prices down and still a great value. They've gradually become my absolute favorite rye whiskey brand.

Whoa! I never noticed the logo on the cork before. I really, really , need to visit the distillery.
  10. I'm there! Last pour from this Sagamore!
  11. Oh this is definitely happening. As soon as I'm done with my 2nd pour of WT101R, I happen to have a 7 year Sagamore store pick that has a very low fill level. On it!!
  12. Yes, my version is Act 11. Others have shared a similar sentiment about more recent varieties not being as good as the older ones.

Good call, you're welcome and nice glass! Maybe join me later for another pour?
  14. But in the same way most know Superman is Clark Kent, and vice versa, we have come to understand that high prices tend to come with American Light Whiskey. At least that’s been my experience.
  15. Just be aware what you are buying. Light whiskey can be quite sketchy, compared to "straight" whiskey. https://vinepair.com/articles/light-whiskey-guide/ Like Superman and Clark Kent, light whiskey and high prices should never be seen together at the same time....

Guero 15 YR American Light Whiskey Finished in Pinot Noir Casks

I don't know. I have only had the 15 year. It enjoyed it and found it smoother than the Jacob's Pardon but not as rich. I really enjoy the Jacob's Pardon, as well as the Penelope, but tend to prefer the Jacob's Pardon because of the richness and more going on in terms of flavors. Having said that, the Penelope is smooth and flavorful. I might have to revisit them, but I imagine I will still prefer the Jacob's Pardon. I have 5 Light Whiskey's now. In order, this is how I rank them. 1. Jacob's Pardon - Small Batch 3 at 142.7% Proof 2. Cat's Eye Obtanium 15 Year - Store Pick for First Fill Spirits in Saratoga Springs, NY 3. Savage and Cooke - Guero 14 Year Light Whiskey finished in Pinot Noir Casks 4. Penelope 15 Year Light Whiskey 5. RY3 14 Year - Store Pick for Norfolk Wine and Spirits in Norfolk, MA. They are all very good and I am splitting hairs a bit, especially for the top 3.
  18. Your pick for a FRyeday pour looked so good that I decided to join you. Happy Fryeday. And to the Flock!

RY3 Cigar Series II - The Oak Collection I found a bottle of the RY3 Cigar Series II - The Oak Collection - while in Maryland visiting my wife's brother. I got to try it in the store and had it again a couple of nights ago. It was great sampling in MD and did not disappoint when I had it at home. 2 of the 3 casks I love and have had before. They are Tokaji (Hungarian Oak) and PX Sherry (Spanish Oak). The final finish is Amburana (Brazilian Oak). I have been mixed on it in the past. RD1 and Barrel make Amburana finishes I like because they are influenced by the Amburana but not over the top (I have both in my collection). In my experience, it can dominate a spirit (I've had Bourbon, Rye, and Rums finished in it) and can taste way too intensely like cinnamon, spice, and wood. This Rye is rich and dense, but balanced. You get the fruity and rich flavors from the PX and the sweet Tokaji on the palette and then the cinnamon and wood notes from the Amburana. They all go together beautifully though and no one flavor totally dominates. The flavors change dramatically initial taste, palette, and finish, and some of the fruity sweetness comes through with the cinnamon and wood spice at the end. This is a whiskey you still taste 15 minutes after your last sip. Really outstanding. One of my favorite finished ryes now. 8.75/10. I couldn't agree more. So good and cheap!
  21. Man, I find that these bottles don't last long once they are opened. One of my favorites for the money.

I enjoy these Chattanooga bonded series. Each season is made up of a different mashbill blend which keeps it interesting. And the price is decent as well.
  23. I recommend saving most of the bottle for the winter months. It's one of my top 3 favorite pours at Christmas time. The port finish on this one combined with the rye spices just hits right as a Christmas pour. Having said that, I've heard that the most recent batches ("Act" numbers) have gone downhill. This Act 8 was noticeably lacking combined with my other open bottle, an Act 5. But still enjoyable.
  24. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I felt like it was better than the 5 year BiB that I had before this one. I still have one more each of the 5 and 6 year in the bunker.

We were out of this for too long and I finally uncorked its replacement. Happy Fryeday and stay cool!

What Bourbon Did You Purchase Summer 2025?

Got lucky again the other day. First time I’ve even seen one in probably 10 years if not more.
