I picked up the Bardstown Wheated for $40. Much lower than some of their other offerings. At $40, it's a tad more than Weller and Green River, both of which are better than the Old Elk.
-
I never see Old Fitzgerald locally. See Weller's all the time. See Pappy's, George T Stagg, etc. Perhaps they just aren't in South Texas

What Bourbon Are You Drinking Spring 2025?

This is a really good bourbon at it's price. I have a C924 and a A125 - Today

Steakhouse Manhattan (heavy bourbon, chunk ice, light stir) after a day of yard work. I doubt Howard himself could have done it any better.

The B'town wheated ( I have only the 'Origins' BiB) is very nice to my taste buddies. They aren't giving it away; but, it isn't a total robbery for what it is. I wasn't impressed with any of the Old Elk that I tried. I can't recall which ones they were; but, I tried at least 3-different iterations. All were meh. And, for the cheddar required, I haven't any interest in looking at this brand any further. Just one man's opinion, of course. Others may find it hits 'em perfectly. That's what makes tasting and comparing whiskey so much fun!

What Water of Life/Scotch are drinking or purchased 2025?

The local barleys are good, but they're not really available at retail for me, only tater prices. I still have some the first runs of 10, 15 and 16 years olds from year ago stashed away I think -

Springbank makes great Scotch. I am not a huge peat fan and need to be in the mood for it, but Springbank is a more balanced peat than Islay, for example. Not as potent and more smokey than medicinal in my opinion. I have the local barley and it is delicious. Mine is a 9 year, but I am sure the 8 year is amazing as well. Enjoy them in good health and please let us know what you think. -
The trend to move from 750ml bottles to 700ml bottles
Kepler replied to rzelinka's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
When moving from the old measurements based on gallons, the standard whiskey bottle was a fifth of a gallon. Hence the term a "Fifth of whiskey." 750 mL was the metric volume that closely matched 20% of a gallon of liquid. Similarly 1.75L is very close to the old "Half gallon" jug of whiskey. -

LW25 replied to rzelinka's topic in General Bourbon Discussion
I've wondered for years how we settled on 750 mL as the standard offering size when 1L is just sitting there, a nice pretty round number. And why is my handle of WT101 in a 1.75L and not a 2L? -

^^This. This is also how companies' finance managers look at it. They don't look at it as only a dollar or two per individual bottle, like some of the comments above. They look at the volume numbers that they are moving. If you multiply $1.50 savings by 100 thousand bottles that they move of a particular SKU, the company saves $150,000.00. That's a middle manager's salary in the company that can be eliminated. Just one example. This is how these things work. -
2025 Unicorn Season

Let’s hope you are off on the character. Reviews are mixed online. I love the Calumets 14/15/16 so some additional oak won’t bother me. Price is ridiculous but for a $50 in on a pool I’ll take it. Thank you Sovereignty! It will get opened at a get together with all of the group and their spouses. -
What rye are you drinking or purchased 2025
Skinsfan1311 replied to Mattk's topic in American Rye Whiskey
If you join the New Riff Whiskey club, they'll keep you updated on the latest releases. They make them available to Whiskey Club members before they're offered to the general public. A few of them are "one of" releases, but I believe that some of them are available early, before they're released everywhere and shouldn't be too hard to get. The catch is that you, or someone you designate, has to pick them up at the distillery. Fortunately for us, a friend of ours lives almost across the street from New Riff, so she picks them up for me and mules them North during football season. -

I don't know about the packaging....the first thing that came to mind when I saw this is that cheap, and horrific smelling, cologne my Grandpa use use to wear in the 70's.... -
I picked up a bottle of this at my local Total Wine last month. I enjoy wheated bourbons so a double wheated was worth a shot. I don't know that I would replace it when it's empty. That said, I can say the same for most of the Old Elk varieties. The double wheated was good, not great. At it's $90 price, the Bardstown wheated which is about $25-30 less is a better offering to me. Anyone tried either?

That is A GREAT looking btl.
