Did anything come of the Dinner at Beam? It sounds like a great time, and extremely educational.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2025?

Pulled off the highway in Paducah KY. Bought some bottom shelf faves, and tasted a few marvelous store picks, including a WFP and a Blantons Gold. Both these picks were fabulous, but at $185 each, I had to pass. Minor regrets, but plenty in the bunker and I'm in frugal mode.
  5. road trip found me rolling through Paducah KY. Pulled off the highway and grabbed a few VOB100s, a JW Dant BiB, and a JTS Brown BiB. All were 14-15$.
  6. Thank you for calling me a Texan. “I got here as fast as I could as people like to say.” I was born in Chicago. Lived there for most of my life. I feel lucky that I was one who escaped. For years I missed Portillos, Garrett’s popcorn, Lou Malnatis, etc. we have all but Lou’s now here in Texas. I bet they’re not too far behind. I like the weather better here in south Texas. shoveling sunshine 11 months a year is great for me. We have 2 weeks of winter. Not winter in the Chicago sense. Maybe a few days in the 30s. Once winter is over, we are back in shorts and flip flops. I do enjoy Texas bourbon. Garrison Brothers and Still Austin get great taste profiles and the Texas heat tends to mature the juice faster.
  7. A few pours of VOB100 last night.
  8. Oh, you Texans and your Weller. The rest of the country thirsts. Joe I hear the weather in TX is better than ChiTown? Maybe the whiskey is better too?
  9. I was able to find Weller 12, Full Proof, CYPB, and Single Barrel this past weekend. The shop owner was unwilling to deal on the CYPB or Single Barrel but was willing to do so on the Full Proof and 12. I am happy nonetheless with my two new Wellers.
  10. 1000%. It was definitely very fun. I think because Cincinnati was such a Buffet town that it was so overplayed that I tired of it before I could ever appreciate it. Every single pool party I ever went to was all Buffet all the time. You could not escape it.
  11. Now that is interesting! I had no idea he'd read the crowd and adjust. That said, I'm 99.99% certain the Cincinnati crowd was 100% party lol.
  12. That sounds like an amazing time!
  13. Jimmy and Come Monday are legends. I love the Letterman Show video. Watch that every now and again to get right. Remus 6 tonight. Fine bourbon!
  14. Correction Michter's was 160$ + tax otd.

What are you cookin on the smoker?

Made some burnt ends yesterday from the point that I froze from the last brisket. I broke out the Auto Kamado for this one, because it's such a short cook.
  17. soaring with the eagle.
  18. As far as Buffett goes, he was a good musician and a great song writer ( if he wrote his own music, I do not know if he did or not. I assume he did). But what I liked and respected was that the music is just positive and good vibes. I don't know all his music but what i know, it was just fun, non political, and about living a good life smokin, drinkin and lovin on a boat. Lol Sorta like listening to a banjo, it is hard to be sad listening to it.
  19. Is the boom over? Found EC 18YR and Michter's 10yr bourbon on the shelf at 134$ otd and 150$ish plus tax otd, respectively. Yes both came home with me. Why wouldn't they? My name is not Will, and I have no Power.

I think I may have misspoken about the Sagamore. Correct me if I am wrong. I love the Cask Strength Sagamore but I do not think it is a finished rye... is that correct?? I was looking at some btls today and did see anything saying it is finished, but, again I may be mistaken. Sorry for any confusion I might have created.

  22. I appreciate your input. Love the info and respect the "farm to sip" brand they are trying to do. And from you and others here, this brand seems to be working. I really dig that they sell 375ml btls at the distillery. I wish we could get more of that kind of sampling. I know cost per ounce goes up with smaller btls but it is easier on the wallet when trying new liquids from different distilleries. I will keep an eye out for this companies products. Thanks Kevin!

What are you cookin on the smoker?

I fired up the smoker for the first time since Feb. I've been doing most of my outdoor cooking on the new Blackstone but I missed the wood/smoke/charcoal. So..I had a package of NY Strips thawing out. When I finally got them opened up and trimmed, seasoned and ready to go they were almost too thin (.75-1") to do my usual reverse sear method but I tried anyway. Came out with good flavor but they were more done than I prefer. They were a solid medium +. These were less than the the best marbled steaks, too. We buy whole strips and have them sliced into steaks. Last time I let Mrs. Clueby go and pick out the strips and have them sliced!! But kudos to her for going when I was too sick to go myself. I usually stress over finding the best one but since you can only see a little bit of the end thru the cryovac its a bit of a gamble. I usually have them cut about 1.5" thick as well. I have a couple more packs from this particular strip so I'll probably shave them up for cheesesteaks. They will be fine for that.
  24. The day to day thing is legit for me as well. I don't necessarily get it as over-oaked, but do get a skewed, 'huh" tasting. According to palate, if it's hitting, damn it's good; otherwise just not sure... He really is a pretty good musician, but is the crowd looking at the music or the party. He seemed to know if the crowd was a party group and really catered to that bunch. Those are the Parrot Heads; at least to me. I happen to think that his best song is Come Monday and that is pre-party animal... And that is what he really catered to. Fun in it's own right but took away from how good he was as an artist...
