What bottle(s) did you open today? (Summer ‘19)

I’m with Bob. Ya’ just never know Dave. I keep at least 6 or 8 empty ETL and HHSS bottles on hand for decanting, blending and samples. An added bonus is they also fit very nicely on the middle shelf of my cabinet. Biba! Joe

    Old Charter Oak?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts in more detail on this one.

What Bourbon Did You Purchase Today (Fall 2019)

One of my local ABC's told me that they were getting in a barrel pick of Larceny soon.
  5. Lol! My Dad was in the Navy. I'll need to ask him about this torpedo juice.

What bottle(s) did you open today? (Summer ‘19)

Pro tip right here. I keep about a dozen empties of various sizes on hand as well.

    Old Charter Oak?

French Oak landed in Chicagoland. Only had a nip so far, but I liked it. Very sweet, but not off-puttingly so.

What Rye Did You Purchase/Drinking (2019)

This RR SiB rye on a cube pairs perfectly with a cigar. Add a perfect porch sittin' afternoon, college football, and The Steeldrivers on the juke box and I have myself a perfect Saturday.
  10. My father was stationed on Guam just before WWII. Along with military stuff, I remember him telling me a little about the Chamorro people. One story he told was of a beverage they made. I can't recall the name, but I do remember my father comparing it to the Navy's "torpedo" juice. Biba! Joe

    Empty bottle(s) support group ~ 2019

The next pictures are for you then Rich. I'm doing a little "fall" housekeeping today. The bottles in my above picture are now tucked away in the deep dark recesses of my basement stash of empty bottles. Before y'all start to worry about me, I had some help. Vosgar, Galvin0791, and a couple of guys at work have given me a number of empties. Biba! Joe PS. I'm collecting empties for a couple of projects to work on when I retire.
  14. Wow, Joe... Just: WOW! You're my hero. If I had your resolve and dedication . . . Ah, who am I kidding? I'd still have waaaay too many bottles open.

My wife thinks I have a problem

Attractive! If you have the space, and the desire, which you apparently have; Good on ya'!!!. Personally, I haven't the space, though a fine-looking old shaker and mini-tumbler set might shake my resolve.

Who here shop estate sales for unopened bottles?

Not here in Illinois. Believe me I’ve tried. Ya gotta remember that Illinois is the land of taxes and crooked politicians. “Illinois:Where Our Governors Make Our License Plates” The folks here seem to not want to piss off the wrong person or people. Whether that means the government/law, or ????? It’s anybodies guess.

What Bourbon Did You Purchase Today (Fall 2019)

I must have been a good boy lately. The wife had a conference in the Chicago suburbs so she stopped at Binny’s up there and these came south with her. OESF and OESQ on the recipes.

Who here shop estate sales for unopened bottles?

That’s why you get in good with the companies. Offer to help run the show, move heavy stuff, etc

What Rum/Rhum did you buy today?

Great stuff. Made honestly by Richard Seale at Foursquare. I'd buy it at that price too, particularly as a nice cocktail ingredient.
  22. Somewhere in China there's a parallel discussion debating their ongoing observations about whether the Baijiu boom has peaked.
  23. God love ya Harry. I knew my fellow DC bourbon drinker in arms could get a handle on this. Tastes evolve. The westernization process is happening with lightning speed but as has already been established they prefer scotch now. So what. As everyone here can attest, while we may start out liking one thing in particular, our tastes for alcoholic beverages are always evolving. Dare I say it, we get on the latest drinking craze as the Chicoms and Indians will as well. Statue of liberty and American flag waving in Hong Kong, the NBA in the rest of China. The Asians are getting westernized at ricky-tick speed and that will ultimately include acquiring a taste for bourbon, IMO. The only real question is will the Black Tot's production/warehouse increases be able to handle the Asian demand as well as us red blooded Americans (and our UK/EU cousins).
