What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

I showed up at 8:15 and was thru the very long line by 8:55.
  3. Today
  4. How long was the wait at the distillery for the JD12? Nice glasses and pic of the grandson?:}
  5. None of those releases are worth the hype IMO. Good? Yes. Worth the asking price? No.
  6. Still my go to. It has something extra above a high rye bourbon. Have you tried any of the sibs?
  7. I can only hope on a straight rye, they did have an old rye back in the day, but it was not very good.

Four Roses introduces 2 new mash bills

The barrel picks can be very different. I have been initially unimpressed with a few of them, but I frequently change my opinion once the bottles open up and I spend some time tasting through the flavors. There is a ton of variety complexity and subtlety in four roses Bourbon, maybe even more so than other brands. I don't always get what I'm looking for from their barrel picks, but most of the bottles have something to enjoy. I am very happy with the small batch select. After going through 4 bottles, I'm content saying they bring a lot of consistency to the lineup at the premium price point

Four Roses introduces 2 new mash bills

FWIW, my son and I picked up one each of two BP selections (chosen by Master Distiller Brent Elliott) that were being offered in the Gift Shop at Cox's Creek last weekend of April. His was quite low proof, despite it being almost 11-years old, if memory serves. So Gary wanted that one assuming it would be a stellar pick. UH-UHHHH! It was very poor. Sub-ordinary! I haven't opened mine yet.
  10. They taste very different to me, but u do grab both of them in si m ilar situations...bold flavors, value priced, stand up in cocktails...

That's too bad, for reference next time I'm the devilishly handsome gentleman dressed to kill. I'm certain you're the same . Seriously, it didn't even cross my mind to check if any of the "locals" would be there. We could have met up and had a cup of "coffee"

Four Roses introduces 2 new mash bills

The Cox Creek visitor center and the distillery has had more barrel proof single barrels available to purchaes over the last year than they've had in a long time. At one point, Cox Creek had all 10 recipes available, so I'd say it's getting more available.

Should have a Jack 12 in about 45 minutes. I'm currently about number 75 waiting in line at the distillery.
  16. I opened an EH Taylor Small Batch this evening. I’m having a nice discussion with the Colonel. Might take a while.
  17. I'm having Ritt B.I.B. In a good way, this tastes so much like a high rye Bourbon. I'd compare it to OGD or some others.
  18. The did just double capacity a few years ago so it's coming.

If it shows up in the store, I will try out of curiosity. However, if unique, I suspect short of selling my house, my family, and my neighbor's family, I will probably not have access. Skip the new mashbills and put out more of the original 10 recipe barrel strength bottles. More old, less new.
  20. PSA: if you’re thinking of getting a bottle of JB SiB in hopes of finding a value high proof better than average bourbon just buy a WT 101. That is all.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

When things are priced very good, you sometimes cave and pick up some bottles. The Ezra 99 port finish was something I was interested in trying as well.

  25. Chattanooga Cask on a big clear cube. And, it’s good.

    What happened with SAOS

One thing about living where I live, anything new that comes out has already been tried by several SBers before I'll ever see it. I never bought Big Level when it was new - too many bad reviews (from folks I trust). Years pass, it was long gone, then suddenly a store I like had a shelf full. I assume it was old stock people somewhere else didn't want. Price was still around $50 - too much for me to take a chance.
  27. Took off of work today to play in a golf tournament. The Capitals are one of the sponsors and they had a "Happy Gilmore" style putting contest, where you putted with a hockey stick. I sank the putt and won this. A great excuse to have a weekday drink
