    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

    The current round of empties.
  4. Just tried the 18 last night SBS against the 17 and it was light years better than the 17. I've had the 17 before and it's always just "ok" to me but it has gotten better with some air. The 18 is in a different league.

Another great SAOS SiB down. Droppin' like flies around here!
  7. Today
  8. That sounded good this afternoon so I followed your lead. Just cracked open my Calumet 16 as well.
  9. Let me be clear, though, that 11-year old is a pretty darn good middle school-ready quarterback! (especially for $21)
  10. Helluva score though!
  11. I had no idea. I need to read more whiskey news, haha. I was aware of that Dickel X Leopold bottling, and come to think of it I saw someone post something interesting about it a long time ago, but I didn't put 2 and 2 together I guess. Interesting news. Thanks for the info.
  12. My favorite is OESK. 2nd is OBSV. I've never ranked them all in my head before, but since I have all 10 open (I think) that might be a nice little project to undertake one of these days soon. I'm not a big fan of the Q's and I think my least favorite is probably F. But this is just off the top of my head. After saying all this, perhaps OBSK would be somewhere around my #3 recipe come to think of it.
  13. The common green label bottle was/still is? MGP finished at cascade hollow. At some point they started distilling their own rye on their column, but it is rather rare to locate. Most of it is blended into the Dickel X Leopold three chamber product. Supposedly a decent amount was sold to Barrell and is blended into their products (Seagrass, etc). And some of it has been sold off as sourced whiskey to NDP's, the only two of which I am aware of thus far are Peg Leg Porker and a few Backbone store pick/single barrels. It has a lot of complex flavors and sometimes gives off a spicy sour apple type of profile. I don't get any of the vitamin or mineral taste often associated with their bourbon/TN whiskey. It should be noted that just because you find a TN rye doesn't mean it was distilled at Dickel. TN distilling company cranks out a decent amount of products, as well as Jack Daniels, although I have never heard of JD selling their product to NDP's. To answer your question about when, most of the backbone picks are in the 8-9 year age, and this peg leg is labeled as 8 yrs. So I would guess around 2013-2014.
  14. Today is starting with an OGD 114, love the stuff, and very rare here. Very reasonable too, while watching the mens final in Rome. Thinking about a Weller 12 next.....
  15. I was out of town for a while but when I got home, there was a bottle of Booker's 2024-01 Springfield Batch waiting for me that I had won in a raffle with my local whiskey club. Nose: Predominant note of sweet tea, with vanilla, honey, snickerdoodle, brown sugar, light leather, tobacco, and oak. Not too much of a proof punch for 124.5. Palate: The proof hits hard on the palate then settles down to reflect the nose notes, along with a little more baking spice, and a little chocolate. The finish is decently long and tapers off to a predominant oak and leather note. The bottle is reminiscent of some of the better Knob Creek barrel picks I have had, though it drinks hotter than the best of those. I had also just tried the new Beam Black 7-year the night before and there are some similarities, but the Bookers is like a D-1 college quarter back and the Beam 7 is like his 11-year old brother just hitting his stride.
  16. I opened a calumet farms 16 last night. Thanks for the recommendation @0895!
  17. That would be greatly preferred if they can find a "fair" way to do this, I could tell that I'm getting too old to be waiting in these lines. For now, I'll deal with it since I've never won a raffle and these events are the only place I've gotten decent bottles. I know if these were raffled, I would not have gotten the email and would be stuck paying 50+ for a pour since there's no way I'd drop a grand to get one on the secondary market. Hopefully we'll be cracking this in the next few weeks and I'll post some notes. If it's anywhere near how great HH17 was, this bottle may not last too long.
  18. Wow, you certainly found some choice bottles. Both of those brands are very good. Nice scores. Thank you. I haven’t stumbled upon an older bottle in a while, but the hope of doing so, makes me stop and shop at stores new to me. Cheers

THIS is why I stopped at Binny’s today. The handles weren’t on sale, so I bought other stuff.
  20. MM tonight. That’s it. So far.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

I’m not sure if they are the same mashbill. The EW BIB seems to be the easiest to find, and most of the guys here in our group prefer it. IMHO, my blend is pretty decent. I get to have some fun, and I also share a lot.
  22. WTKS in the glass. It was a good Preakness, several bets went my way. Pics later this week once I have collected.
  23. Both sound great I love both OBSK and OESK. However, why I typically like higher rye bourbons better, I have always preferred OESK. On the FR recipe tree, while I have had all 10 at one point or another, I find OBSV (BP), OESK, OBSK, OBSQ, OBSV 100 proof to be my favorites. The only yeast variations that I do not care for are the O's...OBSO and OESO. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't kick them out of my glass but they would be at the bottom of the SiB BP list for me.
  24. Sounds like a great time both earlier and then later in the day.
  25. I opened the evening with a nice pour of Sazerac Rye. It has been stellar lately. It would be more stellar at 100 proof. Just saying. Followed up with a nicer pour of WT101. It would be stellar at...well, it is already stellar.
