    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

I found this bottle, on a hot Oklahoma August day, while on a dusty hunt, many years ago in OKC. This bottle proves, a great whiskey doesn’t require to be high in proof. In fact, lower proofing exposes a whiskey’s insufficiencies. This whiskey was well crafted by Mr. Parker Beam. I will miss this exceptional bourbon. I’m glad I have the memory of finding this bottle in a tiny store, owned & operated by a mom and her daughter. True Americana. Cheers.

    Tequila Forum

Wow, it's been a year for this thread. I'm going a bit more value brand this Cinco de Mayo, since that's what's in the cabinet. Rancho Alegre Tequila Reposado (100% agave) 1 liter bottle
  6. Me too. This one used to be an affordable staple when I first got into bourbon, along with WT101, KC9, EWBiB, MM90, OF86/100, and EC12 (EC12 is gone for now, anyway ). I'm so glad and encouraged that EWSiB is making a comeback.
  7. Eeny, meeny, miny….
  8. Over 20 years ago after our son graduated from high school, he started working at the local Off Track Betting place here. He worked there over the summers for two or three years and he also filled in at other times during those years. We started a tradition back then of betting on the Derby. Not a thing for me or the wife again this year. The streak continues.
  9. Back a couple label changes ago - WT used metal screw caps for at least some of their brands. I still have in the bunker two WT 101 Rye "Austin Nichols" with the metal screw cap. I think they are from about 15 years ago. I remember the WT 101 Bourbon of that time had the same closure.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

I think Barrell has somehow escaped the Tater’s gaze
  11. A restart of the brand, I speculate this means HH’s stocks are on the rebound. I hope this brand makes a return to its former glory. Those bottles from 2004 and earlier are sublime. (Yes, I admit it, I’m a Evan Williams SiB fanboy). Cheers
  12. I pass on almost all most bourbons anymore unless they are something I'm curious about. Most notable passes this week were EW SiB, HMcKBiB10, and Wild Turkey Generations all at msrp. I've pretty much totally quit buying most all "tater" bourbon brands (NDP) over $70-80 msrp unless I have a particular liking to them based on history (Barrell bourbon is the only one that comes to mind).
  13. The re-boot of EWSiB Vintage in my area has reminded me it's time to grab one from my bunker. I have more 2006 bottles than any other particular year, but mine all range from 1999 to 2006. 2002 and 2003 have been my favorites so far.

    What happened with SAOS

where do those earlyish barrels of smoke wagon uncut unfiltered factor into this?
  15. Yeah it was an exciting one. Great finish.
  16. I always loved these, and remember ordering them online from ace spirits at $16. my first in years
  17. Great Kentucky Derby. The winner won by a nostril. Celebrated with a few pours of Old Mo Fo 100.
  18. also found one of these on a trip to visit fams in middle GA, on the bottom shelf at 34$. Only one random bottle. yes please. HM10 was 72, and HHBiB 7 year was 45. I'll take this one:
  19. I like them both for different reasons.

The only retail store with which I'm familiar is, actually, in Skokie, just north of Chicago. It's at the end of the CTA "Yellow Line" (formerly, the Skokie Swift). At the "Dempster" stop, there was a store called "Gold Stadnard Liquors." It's where I got all my stuff out there. Not sure if it's still there (been over 35 years), but I do recall it.
  21. Ahh OK. I predict that Maker's will need to reduce the price of their PS bottles in the very near future. They are simply overpriced for what they are, and the bourbon market is slowing down rapidly. The bourbon bubble burst is coming.
  22. I've never seen them either. This was part of a PS sampler 3-pack. I can't recall what the staves combo were on the other two bottles. I think that the 750ml bottles are pricey and I doubt that I'll buy any in the future, unless I can try it first.
  23. Down in Jacksonville visiting with my two best friends. Some bottle tastings in the hotel before going out for dinner. All were liked, with the Bardstown being the most surprising on how good it is.

I'm not a regular in Chicago, but I know we have some Illinois members here on SB. You've already identified Binny's as a must see stop, so that's a good start. I might add ... I just know about Delilah's bar, historically one of the top rated whiskey bars in the country. I haven't been in years, but I remember having a pour of Booker's 25th Anniversary there many years ago. Very memorable. Worth a visit if you have time to stop for a few pours. Good luck.

    The Significance of "Batch Numbers..."

I may have jumped the gun on this. My favorite store told me it was on the shelf, but that may have been an optimistic employee...
