  2. I agree -- it's better than it gets credit for. I find it's funny how the BP version gets a significant amount of love from the tater community, but the same people turn their noses up at the regular version. Says more about people than it does the whiskey. Similar situation with ECBP vs EC94 and WSR vs OWA, but even more so. I also find it funny when taters chase RR13 to no end (and pay hundreds of dollars for a bottle) when they don't even drink WT101 (and in many cases have never even purchased WT101 ever). Crazy

    What happened with SAOS

I always figured Indiana got new releases before other, more "remote" states, but go figure. It's weird how distribution works sometimes.

What bottle did you open today? - 2024

Hey @Anwalt, Nancy here. Sorry I'm just now seeing your post, but if your friend is a fan and is interested, please tell him that I'm running an experiment through the end of this year with the Still Austin Nancy's Picks. Starting in July, I'm taking two 6 year-old cask strength barrels one number apart from each other that come from the same fermentation date, distillation date, barrel entry date and as well as same barrel entry proof (118), same bottling date. The barrels are also as from the same warehouse, use the same cooperage (yard seasoned 53 gls ICS char #3), etc. The only difference will be how they matured in their respective barrels in the rick house. Each "experiment" will be as a unit and released over the course of a two month period. Thus for example, barrel #20 from lot 2018-0521 will be released on July 1st, while barrel #21 from that same lot will be released on August 1st. I plan to do a "unit" of two consecutively numbered barrels for September and October, and probably for November and December as well. I did this experiment for the months of March and April, but unfortunately it wasn't well publicized, so I don't know how many folks were able to compare them. I was shocked by just how much variation in flavor and in proof there was between those two barrels. At any rate, I'm trying to show that there actually can be a lot of variation between how Bourbon barrels mature in a Texas environment, assuming of course that the Bourbon is produced in the more "traditional" and less "funky" TX way. Don't know if it was your client or your friend's client that lives in Austin, but at any rate I thought your friend might be interested in both the 6 yr age statement and the experiment itself and could have the client pick up a bottle. Cheers! Nancy

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

Finished off one that I had not touched in a while, and boy was it good to the last drop. A Sarah bottle to boot. Pat

Four Roses introduces 2 new mash bills

Good point about them opening up. I have never had a Single Barrel BP that I didn't like and I've loved most of them and I've had quite a few. But there were a couple that, like you, I was unimpressed with at first but really liked by the end of the bottle.
  13. I have not tried the single barrel version yet. I saw it once in a store I don't shop too often. I need to talk to the manager of my regular place. Maybe they'll get some.
  14. Only a couple of buddies for bourbon and cigars at the Legion tonight. We had some of my HH BIB blend and Benchmark BIB. No complaints.
  15. Killed this at a bar in Colorado the other day. I never thought I'd see the day, especially since I'm pretty sure this was discontinued a while back.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

Doors opened at 08:00, I got there too early, around 06:30 which was unnecessary in hindsight. But I wasn't as early as some I spoke to near the front of the line, some spent the night! That's my now 24 yo son. I couldn't talk him into going into work late today to help his old man score another bottle. He and his older sister do enter the state lotteries for me and usually win.

I showed up at 8:15 and was thru the very long line by 8:55.
  20. How long was the wait at the distillery for the JD12? Nice glasses and pic of the grandson?:}
  21. None of those releases are worth the hype IMO. Good? Yes. Worth the asking price? No.
  22. Still my go to. It has something extra above a high rye bourbon. Have you tried any of the sibs?
  23. I can only hope on a straight rye, they did have an old rye back in the day, but it was not very good.

Four Roses introduces 2 new mash bills

The barrel picks can be very different. I have been initially unimpressed with a few of them, but I frequently change my opinion once the bottles open up and I spend some time tasting through the flavors. There is a ton of variety complexity and subtlety in four roses Bourbon, maybe even more so than other brands. I don't always get what I'm looking for from their barrel picks, but most of the bottles have something to enjoy. I am very happy with the small batch select. After going through 4 bottles, I'm content saying they bring a lot of consistency to the lineup at the premium price point

FWIW, my son and I picked up one each of two BP selections (chosen by Master Distiller Brent Elliott) that were being offered in the Gift Shop at Cox's Creek last weekend of April. His was quite low proof, despite it being almost 11-years old, if memory serves. So Gary wanted that one assuming it would be a stellar pick. UH-UHHHH! It was very poor. Sub-ordinary! I haven't opened mine yet.
  26. They taste very different to me, but u do grab both of them in si m ilar situations...bold flavors, value priced, stand up in cocktails...

That's too bad, for reference next time I'm the devilishly handsome gentleman dressed to kill. I'm certain you're the same . Seriously, it didn't even cross my mind to check if any of the "locals" would be there. We could have met up and had a cup of "coffee"

Four Roses introduces 2 new mash bills

The Cox Creek visitor center and the distillery has had more barrel proof single barrels available to purchaes over the last year than they've had in a long time. At one point, Cox Creek had all 10 recipes available, so I'd say it's getting more available.
